My helper friend called yesterday and said she could not make it until 10 AM today.  It’s Noon and I’m still waiting.  I slept most of yesterday, needed it, and could probably use another few hours.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:02 (average 5:02).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: By a huge majority, Americans support laws legalizing marijuana and criminalizing Congress, according to a poll released on Thursday.

While the poll reflects a relaxation of attitudes about recreational pot use, it also suggests that many Americans now view membership in Congress as a problem ravaging the nation.

Harland Dorrinson, an activist who has spent years mobilizing support for the criminalization of Congress, said that “this poll reinforces what many of us have been saying for a long time: Congress destroys lives.”

Never has Andy’s satire been more true.

From Media Matters: Fox News Host Sean Hannity is criticizing singer John Legend’s Oscars speech, which invoked the civil rights movement and the ongoing fight for racial and social justice. In response to Legend’s completely accurate statement that the Voting Rights Act of 1965 is under attack today, Hannity disagreed and appeared to argue that the seminal civil rights law was irrelevant to strict voter ID laws.

On February 22, Legend and co-writer Common won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Glory," from the film Selma, a historical drama about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s fight for equal voting rights. In his acceptance speech, Legend noted that the civil rights struggle represented in the movie continues "right now": "We wrote this song for a film that was based on events that were 50 years ago, but we say that Selma is now, because the struggle for justice is right now. We know that the Voting Rights Act that they fought for 50 years ago is being compromised right now, in this country, today."

Barf Bag Alert!!

Everything Legend said was true. Fowler was completely accurate when Hannity wasn’t overwhelming him with the loudest mic. Innis is just a token paid to betray his people, and said nothing of import. Hannity opened his mouth, with no food going in. You know what that means.

From Daily Kos: Earlier today, when asked about ISIS, presidential hopeful and current Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker said that his response to the peaceful labor protests in Madison in 2011 prepared him to stamp out international terrorism. Apparently that means that in case of a terrorist attack he would sneak in and out of the White House via a not-so-secret rat tunnel and consult on the phone with bloggers pretending to be billionaire David Koch.

  1. 5:12 average still 5:02.  Now I'm craving a banana.

New Yorker – Oooh, yeah.  What is sad is that the few good people in Congress – actually they range from good to magnificent – get tarred with the same brush when we think like this.  Instead we should be nurturing and treasuring them.

Media Matters – Hannity is dishonest and knows what he is doing.  But there are gazillions – at least it seems like gazillions – of people who think that because they are not out there personally lynching people or gunning them down that they are not part of the problem.  Anyone have any ideas on how we can reach them?

Daily Kos – I voted for the photo of the 5-year-old girl in the pink dress myself.  I liked her smile.

Cartoon – The conscience of the universe.

  2. Live Long and Propser

In memory of the great Leonard Nimoy, here's a collection of our favorite "Star Trek" episodes, featuring the iconic Science Officer.

You can watch the entire 1st season for free on Hulu.
If there is a Green "H" in the upper left corner, it means you need to subscribe to
    Hulu for a monthly fee.

The Hulu season 1 and the rest of the Hulu series have been remastered. It is better now with awesome color and clarity than the original broadcast back in the "1960's".

Check with your local library for the remastered DVD series.

Spock Quote: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one."

Leonard Nimoy also appeared in the TV Series "Fringe".

  3. Here's a Tweet that's just another in a long, LONG series of reasons why I love, Love LOVE Sen. Elizabeth Warren:

SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN: "If Scott Walker sees 100,000 teachers & firefighters as his enemies, maybe it's time we take a closer look at his friends."

  4. I hope Nimoy made his final journey at warp speed.

With friends like Walker claims, everyone not paying him probably feels like a terrorist enemy.

I'm proud of Legend and the other Oscar winners who  chose to speak truth to power–theologians and historians both tell us holding silent in the face of injustice may be the worst sin and crime against society.

Sad that those most deserving of impeachment in Congress are the ones given the authority fpor impeachment.

  5. 2:54  I went bananas!

    • 3:00 I thought I was going to get those delicious bananas. No such luck!

My sister and brother-in-law had vbanana tress growing at their house in Florida and they are really beautiful in bloom. I've seen them at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens too.

    • You got them!

  6. You needed the sleep.  As for your helper friend, I would guess she is aged 20 to 35, their work ethic seems to have gone astray, in general.

New Yorker.  I repeat myself, but Andy gets closer to fact than satire with every post.  This is the most untrustworthy congress in my memory, and the least popular.

Media Matters:  John Legend was exactly right in his speech.  Hannity should be required to show an ID when he goes to the bathroom, to prove he is human.  Voter suppression is alive and well inthis country and the Republicans are trying to suppress anyone who is not going to vote for them.  I need a Barf Bag Alert anytime I have to listen to Faux news.

Daily Kos:  I laughed  at all of them.  I hope the rest of America does, too, and no one seriously considers him as a Presidential candidate. He has almost destroyed Wisconsin, I would hate to have him in DC with McConnell and Paul.

Cartoon:  Mr. Nimoy will be missed.  I was an avid fan of the original Star Trek series and have seen all the movies.  He was much more than Mr. Spock in his personal life, a photographer, writer, and much more.

    • I fully agree!

    • Edie, is it the work ethic you think, or the schedules they have to accept, being called in to work with no notice or losing a shift with no notice, never being able to plan?

      • Joanne, I believe it is largely the work ethic, at least amongst those that I know personally.  These generations have been taught to feel entitled by their well meaning parents, who want to be their friends instead of parents.  The few who accept responsibility get worked to death. One of my nephews is dependable and works his tail off at anything he does.  The other will walk off the job if he doesn't like the foreman's expression.

  7. Puzzle — 2:54  I went bananas!

The New Yorker — I agree that Andy's satire is so true.  The only thing missing was that they should be tried under terrorism laws.

Media Matters — Somebody needs to turn off Hannity's mic permanently!  He is ill mannered, egocentric and a USDA certified grade A jackass!  Legend and Fowler were absolutely correct.

Daily Kos — Have you ever noticed the Fartfuhrer's eyes?  They are beady and dull, giving him the look of a sick rat . . . a sick rat-bastard!  The real terrorists in Fitzwalkerstan are the Fartfuhrer and his minions!

Cartoon — Mr Spock: "Change is the essential process of all existence."

  8. TY TC.

  9. New Yorker ~ Too close to the truth.

Media Matters ~ It's really too bad that the FCC still allows FAUX to broadcast as news. Hannity is way off the mark. Voter suppression is happening today .

Daily Kos ~ The Koch brothers' pet rat is really making a name for himself and making a fool of himself in the process. How can he compare ISIS to teachers, firemen and policemen? Well, I guess some policemen.

Cartoon ~ Leonard Nimoy's final Tweet on his Twitter account : "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP"

  10. HUMM well if Americans believe that legalizing marijuana is ok then they need not worry if criminalizing Congress because they are already there.  (AkA it just doesnot make much sense)

My picks for the Oscars were Imitation game and Selma.  And Hannity is in the same bag as Palin both are yesterdays news.

I think Walker has more of an "EGO" than Christie and Paul combined.  He is sure the one who will  give us the 2016 election.

    Leonard Nimoy 🙁

  11. I absolutely love Andy’s piece! He has never pinned the tail on the jack-ass so succinctly!
