Feb 022015

In January, Politics Plus was little changed from December.  We increased in every category, except visits, which were less than 100 lower.

Here is our latest summary:

This January was significantly better than last.

Here is our latest demographic data from Quantcast:

QUS1-2015

They miss a ton of raw data, but among those they can identify they will be a valuable source of information.  We are mostly older, well educated, poor, and politically active.

Here is our latest ClustrMap:

CMap1-2015

ClustrMap misses a lot of, because many visits can’t be easily traced to a location.  It shows only the visits from March 2 to January 13, when it was last updated.

Here are our top five articles:

Jane Smiley: Capitalist Pigs 1/17/2010 1,324
Texas Is Premeditating Murder 11/25/2014 714
Republicans Declare War on Disabled Americans 1/9/2015 333
The State of the Union Is Pig Nuts 1/17/2015 291
Monthly Report for December 2014 1/3/2015 250

I’m pleased to see three  from January, and amazed that a Monthly Report made the cut.

Here are our top non-blog/news referrers:

Care2 2,459
Google 1,720
Stumbleupon 1,039

All are up.

Normally I have included fifteen here, but these ten are the only ones with two or more referrals.  That’s down five from last month.  Putting their links here increases the ratings of their sites, so this “linkey love” is our thank you for their support.

Here are our top commentators.  As the resident Big Mouth, I don’t count.  Those who leave their URLs in their comment headers, also get “linkey-love” here.

There are over 15, because of a tie.  Patty, if your going to call Facebook your home page, may I suggest using the link that points to your page there instead of their main URL.  Also, people who submit articles to Care2 can use their submitted news link from there.

We have 362,901 links on other websites.

As of Midnight on February 1, we have 5,346 articles and 60,295 comments.

Kudos to SoINeedAName for posting the 60,000th comment.  His Politics Plus coffee mug for posting an even multiple of 10,000 should be delivered to him tomorrow.  We hope he will send a picture of him using it, that I can post here.  We’re still waiting for the mug recipient for the 50,000th send me her promised picture.  I just hope the mug wasn’t trampled underfoot. 😉

I recommend using your own avatar. As the New Year begins to unfold, it’s already clear that the Republican Party have no interest in governing responsibly, and they are not cutting back on their hateful schemes, each one more vicious than the last.  They are getting away with it, because the habitat of most Americans is intersection of political ignorance and apathy.  We have our work cut out for us.

Thank you for all that you do, here and elsewhere.

  1. "…the habitat of most Americans is intersection of political ignorance and apathy."

And the difference between ignorance and apathy is?

    "I don't know and I don't care."

    If only karma acted faster.

  2. "We are mostly older, well educated, poor, and politically active." — I would say that is a pretty fair assessment of PP's regulars . . . at least from my perspective.

The topic of politics recently came up in a conversation I was having.  All I said was we had an election coming up and that it should be interesting.  The person, who had initiated the conversation, either regretted bringing up the subject or was a conservative.  I vote for the latter.

  3. Sometimes I wonder if the Democrats had any idea what the Teapublicans would do when they got in to power. Surely they thought that EVERYONE else was gonna show up at the election polls! Had to be something stupid like that, cause we are surely screwed now!

  4. Oh, and Kudos to TC for all the work He does to keep us informed!
    Thanks, TomCat!!

  5. Hopefully more than just "A" picture of the mug.  Got an idea percolating – if I can just get Nike (my Tuxedo TomCat) to cooperate.  So probably will be a bit in the making.  You know how these Hollywood agents are, and he's got a bulldog of an agent.  (And you thought cats and dogs don't get along …)

  6. Thanks for all your hard work, we are the beneficiaries.

  7. US Demographics: This was very interesting as I don't think I've ever seen this graphic chart before. This makes me wonder how and where Quancast obtained their information for these statistics. Privacy, anyone…? lol.

  8. I added you to my own blogroll, TomCat, not sure how many readers you will get from there as I have not been actively blogging for sometime and in general the blog is secondary to the main site, neither of which is primarily political.  But I might start writing again at any moment.  Or not.  Still there are folks who visit my site and I hope some may stop here too.  :^) gene

  9. I also wonder how they found out about our makeup, Jim.

Okay, Tom. I changed the URL. I hope I got it right this time.

  10. "We are mostly older, well educated, poor, and politically active. " – absolutely TC, that describes everyone I know here to a 't'!  (How do Quantcast know about us?).

  11. Thanks everyone.  Since three of you asked about how quantcast gets demographic info, I'll answer all at once.  I imagine most you you have filled out profiles on sites, such as Care2 or Facebook, where you also agreed to their privacy policy.  Most people do so without even bothering to read it.  If you did, you gave such sites permission to give away, or sell, whatever information you provide.  One of Quantcast's primary function is to help commercial websites analyze thewir audience to target their advertising to those people.
