The GOP Loves the AFA

The Republican Party consistently claims to be moderate compassionate conservatives.  To that, I consistently suggest you pay attention to what they do, not what they say.  One of the things they do is climb into bed with the American Family Association, a notorious Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christian hate group, and that is giving the GOP some unwanted publicity.  The AFA offended Israel to such an extent that their chief spokesman since forever has been stripped of his title.

0129Bryan-FischerRachel Maddow tonight broke news that the American Family Association has officially fired notorious evangelist Bryan Fischer after a controversy involving the RNC and Israel. Fischer is notorious for having some––well, let’s not sugarcoat it––crazy views on gays, “homofascists,” more crazy views on gays, and… yeah, basically a lot of gay stuff.

Fischer is so out there, he concocted some insane conspiracy theory last year that the only reason Shepard Smith wasn’t freaking out about Ebola is because he wants to support President Obama‘s big government gay agenda.

At issue this time is an RNC trip to Israel that was apparently being paid for by the American Family Association, of which Fischer is the director of issues analysis.

Or, rather, he was. Until today…

…Update- 11:11 pm EST: For the sake of clarification, Fischer has been fired as a spokesperson and director of issues analysis, but is still a radio show host for the AFA.

Here’s what Rachel had to say.

For all the years that he has been purveying hatred for the AFA as their spokesman, they never once objected to anything he had to say, so even without his title, he still represents them.  Furthermore, given the RNC’s willingness to partner with him, her also represents the Republican Party.

Fore more information, I gave him a parade.  More recently, he sided with ISIL, saying that the people they were killing were “worthy of extermination”.

Nevertheless, the GOP loves the AFA.  This is what they do.

  1. Me thinkst this one may finally be the straw that breaks the elephant free from Reibus, too.

  2. "FIRED" !!  It has SUCH a nice ring to it!  Fired – fired – fired.

I'm sure he'll find something else to do, but I'm enjoying it for now.

  3. Bryan Fischer is either off his meds, or seriously needs some. He will be replaced with someone equally nuts.

  4. This reeks of "smoke and mirrors"!

If the AFA was truly upset with Fischer because of his beliefs etc, they would fire his ass right out the Family's door.  But they didn't.  Further more, David Lane who organised the Bobby Jindal prayer rally and is organising the trip to Israel, said "America was founded by Christians for the glory of God and the Christian faith.".  This is how much different than Fischer saying "Counterfeit religions, alternative religions to Christianity, have no 1st amendment right to the free exercise of religion."?  And the RNC group including Reince Priebus is off to Israel with the AFA?  What a clown car filled with stupidity!

I think that the "firing" of Fischer by the AFA is nothing more than a ploy to appear to disassociate itself from Fischer while the RNC tries to strengthen its ties with the AIPAC.  I believe it is called buying the vote of American Jews.

How anyone can take Republicanus/Teabaggers seriously is beyond me.

  5. Glad that he, notorious evangelist Bryan Fischer, has been fired. But, he still has a host radio show. The American Family Association, even without Fischer, is still a hate group, The DOJ, FBI should list them as such.

Rachel gave a very good account of this story on her show.

  6. The success of the Right Wing in making their supporters believe such a lot of lies about what the Right Wing does and or/ is going to do (and this applies the world over) suggests to me that either they have skills from advertising or the great shysters of the past who could sell anything to anyone (these days often tv evangelists) – or that half the world's population has a greatly diminished IQ and no critical faculties or self awareness whatsoever.

Bryan Fischer is either certifiably insane or utterly evil – he revolts me in every way possible – and a few I hadn't thought of till I him.  (I remember his parade from before TC – patently others are slowly catching up with you!).

God bless Rachel Maddow forever – she enlightens us about horrifying things we should know about, yet manages to get us to cope with it – dear Lord the Far Right are a load of sad, hypocritical, hate-filled lunatics!

(Hang on Rachel – you said that Fischer and the AFA would allow Christians to be in America – I have a caveat that I think that all of us know – they only allow their own hate-filled version of 'Christianity' – they wouldn't know Jesus' commands to us if they were asked, never mind try and put them into practice – and they hate us too for trying to be real, genuine, compassionate Christians [and yes, we are working on our flaws!]).

  7. Typo – second para I meant to type 'and a few I hadn't thought of till I heard him'.   I hope I haven't made any other mistakes – dyslexia lures!

  8. Oh no – something else (it was a very bad day and a bad night yesterday) – also second paragraph at the end – I meant 'others in the media are slowly catching up with you!  [[SIGH!!]]

  9. The AFA is still letting him have his radio show because it is not as high profile as his position with the AFA. Israelis don't get that station on their radios. I think it's only in the Bible Belt. Otherwise, they would have gotten rid of him entirely. After all, they don't want to offend the "Butcher".

  10. Fischer is notorious for having some––well, let’s not sugarcoat it––crazy views on gays, “homofascists,”

I find it hard to imagine Fischer having non-crazy views on any subject, including the weather and the time of day.

I don't know how I missed your August 10 post about Fischer and ISIL, but he's repeating a Muslim canard as vile as the Protocols of Zion.  The Muslim idea that Yazidis worship the Devil arose from the similarity of their name to the name of the Caliph Yazid, a ruler in the early Middle Ages who is considered the epitome of evil and almost equivalent to the Devil.  In fact, the two names are unrelated and the similarity of sound is a coincidence.  "Shaitan" in Arabic does mean Satan or a demon, but the Yazidi Peacock Angel has nothing to do with that.

Fischer clearly doesn't bother to do even basic reasearch on anything.  Kind of a problem for a "director of issues analysis".

  11. Thanks to all.  To clarify, Fischer is still with the AFA.  They just srtipped his title.  It wouldn't surprise me all, if they gave him a raise.  I also expect him to be quietly reinstated when this blows over.

  12. Oh, the humanity! (haha) If we could just get rid of the rest of the religious fanatics in high places!

  13. Bryan Fischer the holy roller is Nucking Futs. 😆
