Here are the results of our “Will Republicans Impeach?” poll.  Politics Plus Polls are not scientific, because those who respond are not balanced according to demographic categories.   Therefore, we do not accurately reflect the makeup of the US population.  Nevertheless, our are usually factually accurate, and more often than not, reflect will of the national majority.

I really wanted to vote "Very Unlikely" – BUT given the abject STUPIDITY of these rethuglican hate-mongers I upped it to "Somewhat Unlikely"

"Very likely" – It’s all they’ve got.

I voted "Somewhat Unlikely" because no one – and I mean NO ONE – can be THAT f\/cking racist and stupid

Oh, wait … we’re talking about Rethuglicans, aren’t we?

Can I change my vote?

I think they will try to impeach him for something, it won’t matter what to them, they just want to embarrass him if they can.

It’s their god-given right! ;

Of Course these idiots will try!!!! But it’s all smoke & mirrors & wasteful expense for Nothing. Clinton proved that Impeachment might hurt your feelings, but Does NOT Remove you from office!

I voted very unlikely, but they sure as hell are going to try.

They might vote articles of impeachment, but I rather doubt it and they don’t have enough votes in the Senate to complete an impeachment process anyway – which might make it more likely they’ll vote the articles – for show so their "base" will know how tough they are. Maroons…

oops Boehner to left

They are very likely to keep talking about nothing else for the next two years. They are only somewhat likely to actually do it. They are all hat and no cattle.

I voted Toss-up. I really don’t think even they know. Cruz to right.Boehner to the right and McConnell stuck in the middle with a " I just want to go down in history as the man who took Obama down". My My what a dilemma.

Impeach him for what? He’s doing his job – they are not. They are busy making life miserable for him and all the rest of us, too. The man only has two years left….very unlikely they could or would.

Somewhat likely. It depends on how loudly their "base" demands it.

Very likely! Once again, I base my answer on past performance.

why would they give up a good thing?

The comments make it clear that not everyone understands impeachment.  If House Republicans opt to vote a Bill of Impeachment, Obama will be impeached.  To be impeached is not the same as to be removed from office.  In addition to impeachment, removal requires conviction in a Senate trial.  Conviction requires a 2/3 majority of the Senate.

I voted ‘Somewhat likely’.  The leadership is savvy enough to realize that the frivolous charges available to them are most likely to be a public relations nightmare, and that they have no chance to get the 67 Senate votes needed to convict, if the House does impeach him.  The problem the leadership faces is that their racist hatemongering has inflamed the party’s rabid base.  So the reason for my vote is that the TEAbuggery tail is likely to wag the leadership’s dog, as it so frequently has.

The new poll is up and is more personal.

  1. That's why I voted "somewhat likely". Pres. Clinton went through the same "dog and pony show" because of Newt Gingrich. He wasn't removed from office because the they failed to convict him. Impeachment is only the trial in the House. There has never been a US President removed from office following an Impeachment trial.

    • Yeah – but that's ONLY because Nixon resigned to avoid being removed from office.

      • True – and wasn't Nixon pardoned by a Democrat?  Sounds as if those in office stick together a little too much for my liking.

        • Nixon was pardoned by Gerald Ford (R) acting as president. He was pardoned for all crimes against America, even though we didn't even know the extent of his criminal activities when he was pardoned. A travisty of justice.

I disagree with Obama when he instructed his AG to not investigate the wrongdoings of Bush and his administration officials.

It's messy to investigate these high officials of government, but we reject the processes of justice, if we do not.

          • Steve, I disagreed with Obama on this, too.  Dubya and his crew should have been investigated and probably prosecuted.  They nearly destroyed this country, for their own enrichment.

  2. "The comments make it clear that not everyone understands impeachment." – whilst that is true TC (certainly in my case), do you really, Really, REALLY think that a) the general public understand Impeachment, or that b) the GOP/TP do?!  I voted that they would not because I thought that the GOP had/would have/might ever have a legal case against President Obama (isn't he a constitutional lawyer?), but on the basis of their previous behaviour – and on that basis I think they are certainly bananas enough to try as they think it would get them more votes with their deluded minions.  I mean, no-one with brains and a conscience would have ever done any of the things they have done so happily over the past few years, so why shouldn't the nutters add this?

  3. Drat – have just seen that I should have put in the third line … "I voted that they would, not because" – sorry!

  4. I don't think there is the slightest doubt that the House has the votes to impeach.  But even House Republicans know that there are NOT the votes in the Senate to convict.  That's a done deal.  They would only impeach if they thought that it would give them enough points with their base to overcome the loss of points from not being able to convict.  I don't know what it would take to put them in that frame of mind.

I think Nixon resigned to avoid not just impeachment, but being metaphorically hanged, drawn, and quartered in the courts and in the public eye.  And, granted that you can't cheat an honest man, you can certainly set up a dishonest one to look even more dishonest than he actually is.  I have come to think that happened to Nixon, and that one of the framers-in-chief was Daddy Bush.

  5. The red wingnuts will ‘try’ to impeach, but will not succeed. They can’t get all their ducks in a row at the same time! (Almost Freudian slip “i” in that “duck”)

  6. Information on what ARE real grounds for impeachment (vs. the base that believes it was Clinton's behavior with Monica vs. the truth being his lie under oath to Congress as the only impeachable offense) in the media could enable Boehner to avoid political suicide by permitting such a vote on insufficient grounds…would be nice if the media saw how the issues the base believes should be grounds and made them a laughing stock as deserved.

  7. I voted "very likely" primarily because these Republicanus/Teabagger bastards just love to hate Obama, waste money (think 53 times tried to repeal Obamacare and defended DOMA), and generally embarrass the country. The House will impeach but I seriously doubt the Senate would convict, even in the new year when the Republicanus/Teabaggers take control of the Senate.  The Republicanus/Teabaggers are, IMO, over reaching of course on the matters of impeachment and the law suit.  These actions will come back to bite them in ass, as well they should.

I say garnish their wages and paydown the mounting debt they owe to the American people for wasting money in pursuit of their hate for Obama.

  8. I voted very likely because I am sure Boehner and McConnell will want to strut for their base.  They don't have impeachable grounds, but that won't stop them.   Lindsey Graham is calling the Benghazi report by a Republican panel "hogwash" because he hates Obama so much.  They are insane.
