I’m writing for tomorrow, day 22.  It’s already evening, and I just started cooking, because I slept most of the day.  Yesterday’s CoDA meeting in prison was excellent.  We discussed what it means to be willing to make amends to the people we have harmed.  My guys showed authentic insight, but more than that would violate confidentiality.  I was especially exhausted, because having to meet my ride away from downtown upped my walking total to over two miles.  (Later:  I fell asleep at my desk and just woke up.)

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 6:44 (average 5:30).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

From Media Matters: Thanksgiving Survival Guide

Don’t let right-wing lies ruin your Thanksgiving dinner.

This year, be ready with the facts.

This is just one of twelve fact cards. Click through for the other eleven.

From NY Times: With negotiators nearing an accord on permanent tax breaks for businesses worth $440 billion over 10 years, President Obama rallied Democratic opposition on Tuesday and promised a veto.

“The president would veto the proposed deal because it would provide permanent tax breaks to help well-connected corporations while neglecting working families,” said Jennifer Friedman, a White House spokeswoman.

The deal, negotiated by House Republicans and aides to Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the outgoing majority leader, showed how much power has shifted since the Republican election victories this month. The negotiations fractured Democrats, and separated the Obama administration from Mr. Reid.

So he should. It looks like Leg Hound Harry is back.

From KGW: Hundreds of protesters clashed with police during a rally against the Ferguson ruling Tuesday night.

Seven people were arrested, police said, mostly for interfering with an officer and disorderly conduct. None of them remained in jail Wednesday morning.

Needless to say, the news coverage of Portland’s protest was biased.

  1. If there was ever a turkey that deserved a hatchet…..

  2. 4:30 average unchanged.  Sugar covered gummies are often sour, but I must say these don't look it – they look like regular gumdrops.  Either way, not cat food.  I'm sure your dinner will be teh better for being without them, TC.

Media Matters – The best guide I've seen, and I've seen a few.  I've bookmarked it  But I'll be eating alone.

NY Times – Doesn't ANYONE pay attention?  People need to stop being so squeamish and start taking hard looks at how the sausage is made.  At least it's good news that "The negotiations fractured Democrats"; it means there are still some true ones.

KGW – I have seen some people on Care2 comment "The looting invalidated the protests."  Sure, I would rather there be no looting.  But very few people actually looted, and, even assuming no looting was done by agents provocateurs (which I don't assume and you shouldn't), that seems to me like saying the guillotine invalidated the French Revolution.  People who say things like that have literally NO idea what it is like to be in that position.  BTW, what's the Portland media's definition of violence?  A hangnail?

Cartoon – A jive turkey that is all white meat.  (Is there such a thing as a jive turtle?)

  3. 3:52 I wanted to get to the gum drops before TC because I do like them.

  4. Media Matters ~ I posted this on my FB page. Great advice.

    Cartoon ~ Excellent!

  5. Happy Turkey Day Everyone. 😆

  6. Love the cartoon!

  7. Puzzle — 4:00  I hummed and I hahed . . . should I have one?  I decided not as I am a diabetic.  So they are all your's Critter.

Media Matters — I posted this to FB with the following comment: I would like to remind my fellow Canadians that, although this graphic is American, we share some of the same issues.  Men And Women Get Treated Equally At Work — Ha!  Not so.  As I heard last week, Canadian women make less than men at the same jobs, but the separation isn't quite as large.  Obamacare Isn't Working — OK, in Canada we don't have Obamacare.  But Harper has said in the past that he favours US style for profit healthcare.  He is not so obvious like the US Republicans in his desires.  Instead, he has refused to negotiate the federal/provincial healthcare accord frustrating the provinces who continue to fight with budgets  and wait times.  And in BC, we have the law suit of Dr Brian Day challenging the Canadian healthcare system. Climate Change Is A Hoax —- Glaciers retreating at unprecedented rates.  Wild storms.  Ask the people of Buffalo NY just across our border, how they like almost 2 metres of snow in 2 days and then rain and now more cold!  Or how about the warmer winter temperatures and less rain here on the west coast.  Net Neutrality Is A Government Takeover Of The Internet — The exact opposite is true.  Net Neutrality will keep the internet open as it is now.  No "fast lanes" for companies who are willing to pay extra, no being shuffled to the side.  Maintaining the status quo.  And let's face it, this affects everybody globally.

It is time to sit up and smell the coffee so to speak.

NY Times — Oh crap!  Looks like Harry Reid is going back to what he knows best . . . ummmmmmmmmmmm! sigh

KGW — I believe in freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, but I do not believe in looting etc. Unfortunately, some of it, I am sure, is brought on by pure frustration in dealing with a system that seems always to be stacked against ordinary people.  I think people in LA, Portland and Seattle are saying that the injustice occurred in Ferguson, MO, but it just as easily could have happened there.

As far as Prosecutor Robert McCulloch goes, he earned Asshole of the Day honours for 25/11/14.  http://assholeoftheday.us/tagged/asshole-of-the-day

Cartoon — So where is Lizzie Borden and her axe when you need her.  No amount of marinating or seasoning would make that old bird edible!

  8. Amen to all!  Thanks dorf the Canadian view.
