I’m writing for tomorrow, day 19.  It’s early in the morning, and I plan to finish in time for some intense meditation on the Holy Ellipsoid Orb.  I may be scarce next week as I have a very busy schedule.  Store to Door is closed for Thanksgiving week, so I have a grocery delivery coming from Safeway tomorrow, and I’ll have to stow and put them away.  Tuesday is a prison volunteer day.  Wednesday and Thursday I’ll be cooking up a storm, so I’m not sure how much content I’ll be able to deliver.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:05 (average 5:01).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Religious Ecstasy:

Was that a nail-biter or what!  Wooo Hooo! πŸ˜€

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: These guys went across the world because there's a natural wonder that needs saving.

Kudos to Upworthy, but nothing is as clickable and shareable as a cat video. Nevertheless, I'd be honored to bring you more #reefreels.

From Right Wing Watch: Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a leader in the anti-immigrant movement, said during his Sunday radio program [fascist delinked] that it’s possible that a Hispanic majority in the U.S. could conduct an “ethnic cleansing.”

Kobach made his remarks in response to a caller who asked, “What happens, if you know your history, when one culture or one race or one religion overwhelms another culture or race?”

Claiming that immigrant rights groups are “calling for the return of the Spanish territory, which could be almost half of the United States,” the caller warned, “When one race or culture overwhelms another culture, they run them out or they kill them. And it’s a bigger issue than just being Democrats. And they know in numbers, once the numbers are so bad, they can pretty much do whatever they want to do.”

Here's the Audio. Barf Bag Alert!!

Kobitch is employing projection. If what he were saying about ethnic cleansing were true, there would be no Anglo communities in Mexico or other Latin American countries when Latino people took over. On the other hand, Republicans are the ones who love to threaten and employ violence when they don't get their way.

From NY Times: GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, Mont. — What will they call this place once the glaciers are gone?

A century ago, this sweep of mountains on the Canadian border boasted some 150 ice sheets, many of them scores of feet thick, plastered across summits and tucked into rocky fissures high above parabolic valleys. Today, perhaps 25 survive.

In 30 years, there may be none.

A warming climate is melting Glacier’s glaciers, an icy retreat that promises to change not just tourists’ vistas, but also the mountains and everything around them.

I found some appropriate video.

I visited Glacier National Park in 1961. I remember my amazement at walking on glaciers in August and my awe at their number and immensity. It's a personal sorrow that most of the places, were I walked on glaciers, are now completely ice free.

  1. Jigzone ~ Was it "Fishing in Orange"? You don't have a hot link. I got 3:27 if this is the right puzzle.

  2. Upworthy ~ Definitely worth saving. If the wealthy of the world have their way, this will be gone because they don't care about anything that doesn't increase their bank account. Conservation doesn't make them richer. I guess they don't care about posterity either.

Right Wing Watch ~ May he follow in Nevada's Speaker Elect Ira Hansen's footsteps and resign. Ira resigned after his racsist and homophobic remarks were reported by the Reno News and Review. I guess there are still some journalists out there besides the few we know and love.

NY Times ~  As long as FAUX NNOISE and the Rethugs in power are allowed to spread their propoganda about global warming, the American people will deny that global warming exists. FAUX should not be allowed to call themselves a news station by the FCC. Did you know that Rupert Murcock is not the sole owner?   http://bigthink.com/Resurgence/sharia-prince-owns-stake-in-fox-news-parent

Cartoon ~ Don't show this to the TeapublicanTs. They would want to hold the Scopes Trail all over again.

  3. 5:09 average unchanged.  Who besides TC will be going for the fish?  Just from the score I would have guessed the orb had given you a roller coaster ride; then I saw the comment and saw I was right.  The Agony and the Ecstasy?

Upworthy – I don't know whay Aussies are thinking.  There is only one.  There is no way to get another when it is gone.  It has brought Australia  gazillions of tourism money – which will stop if it isn't there.  And for what?  A garbage dump?  Who wants to visit a garbage dump?  All the Aussies I know are so much smarter than that.  But then there's Abbott.  Well, I've said Republicans are everywhere.

Right Wing Watch – While I would love to see Kobach (also a leader in the anti-voting and cheat-to-win movements) taken out, it ain't gonna happen.  This is, however, a good description of what old white males with fundamentalist religious beliefs and worship of Republican Supply-side Jesus, as explained in the Republicn Bible, are doing or trying to do.  (As you say, TomCat.)

NY Times – Oh, sure, make me cry first thing in the morning.  Thr story certainly deserves tears.

Cartoon – In theory, since e- or ex- means "out of," the opposite should be involve.  But de- means "down from," and what could be more appropriate for Republicans?

  4. Puzzle — 3:15  You have the correct puzzle Patty.  If there is no link, just go to the previous day, click and then change the puzzle to the first one on the list.  Works for me!

The Agony and the Ecstasy — A real nail biter but your team managed to hold on!

Upworthy — "The Great Barrier Reef is symbolic of what we are doing to the earth.  We`ve got to get that message out."  AMEN!!!!

One of the pictures showed tankers and cargo ships lined up at sea.  It reminded me of what I see in the Burrard Inlet here in Metro Vancouver.  Sometimes there are so many ships in the Burrard Inlet waiting to off load or load their cargoes that I swear I could almost cross the Inlet by jumping ship to ship.

And speaking of climate change, the survey work of Kinder Morgan on Burnaby Mountain here in Metro Vancouver is being disrupted by protesters.  Last week, scientist and environmentalist David Suzuki`s grandson was arrested.  Suzuki himself was at the protest site leading chants etc from the edge of the roped off exclusion zone.  http://www.news1130.com/2014/11/23/david-suzuki-makes-appearance-at-burnaby-mountain-protest/

Right Wing Watch — I don`t know if Kobach is a card carrying member of a white supremacist group, but he sure is sounding like one and is injecting more fear into a discussion that should not be fear based.  When you think that European immigrants centuries ago came to North America and were guilty of ethnic cleansing . . . decimating the First Natiions people . . . this IS a piece of projection.  Somebody please duct tape this idiot`s mouth!

NY Times — It isn`t just Glacier National Park either.  The glaciers in Canada`s Banff National Park and Jasper National Park are disappearing too.  I was watching a video awhile back and I believe it was the glaciers of Iceland or Greenland, or both for that matter, that were shown shrinking, all because of climate change.  If I remember correctly, one glacier has retreated more in the past 10 years than it did in the preceeding 100 years. I might have some of my numbers off a bit, but not the destructive direction of climate change in these glaciers.

Cartoon — And to think that the Republicanus/Teabaggers are so proud of this accomplishment.  BTW, Wikipedia has the publishing of the original, On the Origin of Species by Means of NATURAL Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life, as 24 November 1859, not 1869.  In the 6th edition in 1872, the name was shortened to The Origins of the Species.

Church Signs — This is my church's sign this week — "If Plan "A" fails, you still have 25 letters left!"

Personal — My physio is allowing me to go on walks now, relatively short ones using my walking poles.  So Sunday, I went to IKEA, had lunch and then walked both floors which is quite a hike for the first time out.  I used a shopping cart as my steadying influence which was good since I found some cute stuffed animals for the great nieces and nephew.  I was very tired, especially the feet, and today I am sore in the feet and ankles but there is no rest from the wicked when it comes to physio!  I was back on the wobble board trying `no hands` balancing and movement.

  5. NY Times:  Went into and through Glacier National Park in August, 1997 on my way to Sturgis, SD and to the eastern parts of USA (OH, MI, PA, NY, NJ) and other states on the way back. I was on vacation and traveling on my Harley Hog. lol. Glacier Park is a really beautiful place to wander around and sightsee. Nice campgrounds. Was really surprised to see snow there in August. Managed to throw a couple of snowballs at one of the higher elevations. Took a few photos of me & my Hog at 10,000+ foot elevation with the mountains in the background. From the description in the article, the snow won't be there much longer. For those of you wanting to see an awesome place, now is the time to do so before it is gone. Here is a link for some photos and description of the Glacier National Park. 6 Mountains over 10,000 feet above sea level.

Cartoon:  Yep, sounds right. lol. Devolution…

  6. TC, you do have a very busy week ahead. I do, too.  I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the whole family, which amounted to 12 people.  Then a distant cousin announced he wanted to come.  Tonight my nephew called and asked if he could bring his girlfriend's family, too, which is five more.  Now I have 18 people and 12 chairs.  Guess I will eat on the floor.

Upworthy:  I have enjoyed the posts you share from them so much that I suscribed, both on e mail and Facebook tonight. Thanks for connecting me to this great site.

NY Times:  I have never had the pleasure of visiting the Glacier National Park but have enjoyed pictures of it.  This is another victim of climate change which the Republicans continue to deny.  We will all be affected by this,  and those who are so proud to declare they are "not scientists" when they make their pronouncements should suffer more than the rest of us.

Cartoon:  Yes we have devolved sounds completely right to me.  How the heck can people keep voting for those clowns?

  7. Thanks all.  Running way late!

  11. The day after this last election, I went to the supervisor of elections in pasco county Florida and changed my party to No Party Affiliation. Although you all know my politics, I can't compete with the Citizens United and Billionaires. I will not give money to Democrats who won't stand up and support my President.
