I’m writing for tomorrow, day 174.  It’s late evening, and I’m usually not watching this late, but a it’s been one of those days that everything gets done but not at it’s normal time.  That’s partly because od volunteer work, and partly because I took tine out to watch the Oregon Ducks Californicate UCLA.  Tomorrow is a Holy Day in the Church of the Ellipsoid orb, and my Broncos service will be televised here at 10:00 AM.  May the holy Orb bless them with stinger missiles.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:44 (average 4:23).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: This is a special Upworthy series about encouraging action on climate change. Made Possible by Planet Victory. Read more.

Just wait till 4:10 to find out why this amazing footage is so very scary. (Hint: climate change.)

You can’t argue with that, except the Republicans so anyway.  They claim, lamely, that they’re not scientists.

From Daily Kos: Walmart is an environmental disaster, despite its claim to be moving toward renewable energy. But Walmart’s majority stockholders, the Walton family, are going above and beyond, actively working against rooftop solar power, according to a new report from the Institute for Local Self-Reliance.

The Waltons’ anti-solar efforts fall into two categories. Since 2010, they’ve given at least $4.5 million in donations to organizations like the American Legislative Exchange Council [ALEC] and Americans for Prosperity [Koch] that are trying to weaken clean energy policies at the state level. These donations are part of a widespread corporate attack on policies that allow homeowners to use rooftop solar panels not just to power their own houses, but to sell excess solar power to utility companies. These utility companies might not be against solar power, but they’re definitely against losing business to household-level solar.

Thou shalt not Wal-Fart!

From NY Times: More than half of the general election advertising aired by outside groups in the battle for control of Congress has come from organizations that disclose little or nothing about their donors, a flood of secret money that is now at the center of a debate over the line between free speech and corruption.

The advertising, which has overwhelmingly benefited Republican candidates, is largely paid for by nonprofit groups and trade associations, some of which are established with the purpose of shielding wealthy individuals and corporations that contribute.

What is now happening is exactly want the Fascist Five Injustices at SCROTUS (Republican Constitutional VD) said would NOT happen when they illegally legislated that even foreign Corporate money may drown out human speech. Get Out the VOTE!!

  1. Upworthy – impressive and very scary video!  In ten years recently the ice retreated more than it had in the previous 100 – but climate change deniers still deny everything.  Re their claim not to be scientists – a) stop making matters worse then you Right Wing hypocrites, and b) if you are not an engineer or a motor mechanic, you still know when your vehicle is malfunctioning, don't you – and then you take it to an expert – and listen to the expert – you don't take it to 34 experts till you find one whose views co-incide with yours.  They should be listening to the 97% of the expert scientists who say climate change is real and a terrible disaster starting to unfold as we sit doing nothing!

Daily Kos – the Waltons seem to spend their days thinking up ways to be evil – they appall me – as does the behavior of their companies.

NY Times – I am delighted to see that the Daily Kos has got pages for organising people to get out the vote – hooray for all who are managing to do so!   Thanks TC!

  2. 5:32 average unchanged.  Sometimes I can tell right when I start, when the pieces start acting jerky (figuratively and literally), that my time is going to be way up there.

Upworthy – Unfortunately seeing isn't believing if you don't understand what you see.  And if you don't want to understand, you won't.  I had a prof who had a little tag "A man convinced against his will is on the same opinion still."  You could go the the flick on YouTube and read some comments, but I would suggest a barf bag.  Since a good part of this fell as rain and hail at my house over this summer and (so far) fall, I can't be surprised.

Daily Kos – Walmart is a disaster in every way.  They are even cheap s**ts buying lobbyists.  If you took the $4.5 mil they are known to have given to ALEC and AFP and divide it by the number of employees they have, just in the US, not conting employees in the rest of the world, it comes to $3.21 per employee.  Total.  Over four years time that's 80¢ a year.  Chump change.  Or maybe I should say they drive hard bargains.  With everyone.

NY Times – You are so right, and and Pat A is so right about how Daily Kos is helping nationally.  Here's a link to current shifts that need filling:
    http://pol.moveon.org/2014calls/home_shift_signup.html?source=kos
And if you can't call but could give as little as a dollar to support the callers, the Act Blue page – well, darn, I can't give you the page because it opens with my credit card, but if I find a clean link I'll come back.

Cartoon – Yeah.  And good luck to your Broncos.

  3. 4:18  This old cow could not get moving, and that's no bull.

  4. 3:07  Beautiful brown eyes!  For once, the average is still showing 4:23 which is normally not the case for me. Often it is half again as much, sometimes twice.

I'm going up to see my mother so I'll do the rest later assuming I get back in time.

  5. I never go to Wal-fart, unless it is totally unavoidable. And then I do it with disgust. They are the worst at anything!
And, writing this in the evening, I can say that the Ellipsoid Orb was shining bright on the Wild Horsies!! All well in Ellipsoid Orb-land! The pass for 23 yards on 3rd and 20 was a thing of BEAUTY!! And I know you saw it!!! The Great Peyton was in FINE FORM after the first quarter. All hale, The Great Peyton!!

  6. Upworthy:  This is very scary, and the longer governments refuse to do anything about climate change, the more dangerous it becomes.

Daily Kos:  Wal Mart probably owns coal and oil, and solar is a threat to them.  I live in a rural area that Wal Mart took over about twenty years ago.  Ninety percent of the local businesses are gone.  The only time I go there is when I absolutely cannot find whatever it is I need anywhere else.  Then I still feel guilty.

NY Times:  SROTUS knew exactly what would happen after that ruling.  We need term limits for SCROTUS!

  7. Puzzle — 3:07  Beautiful brown eyes!  For once, the average is still showing 4:23 which is normally not the case for me. Often it is half again as much, sometimes twice.

Upworthy — That is one big baby being born!  Imagine, over 3,000 feet high with only 200 – 300 feet above the water!  Then there is the scary part . . . the glacier has retreated 8 miles in 100 years to 2000, and 9 miles from 2000 til 2010!  And some people are skeptical of climate change, while others deny its existence.  Since water contracts when frozen, it makes me wonder at the volume of water when this iceberg melts.  Magnificent video of nature doing nature's thing!

Daily Kos — "Thou shalt not Wal-Fart!" and the 2nd commandment, "Thou shalt FART copiously in Wal-Fart!" — AMEN!

NY Times — Money in politics has to be reined in.  I wonder what Injustice Kennedy thinks now that what he thought would not happen, has indeed happened?  Past time to overturn Citizens United and GET THE VOTE OUT!

Cartoon — So what ship is this?  The USS Liberty was attacked by Israel but that was 08 June 1967.  On 12 October 2000 the USS Cole was attacked in the port of Aden, Yemen while it was refueling.  Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility.

  8. Thanks all.  Fell asleep vertical.  Pit Stop!!

  9. "They claim, lamely, that they’re not scientists."

Not a lame claim at all, T.C., it's true; Republicans aren't scientists because they're not smart enough to be scientists. Hell, most of the time they're not even smart enough to be idiots.

    • Phil, there are House republicans that actually were employed as scientists.  The leaders are nit stupid.  It's the foold that listen to them and vote against their own interest that are stupid.  Even more stupid are those that do not vote.
