I’m writing for tomorrow, day 172.  I took an hour of sun-basking this afternoon.  Before long there will be only Oregon liquid sunshine.  It’s as minor Holy Day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  My Broncos’ service is not until Sunday, but tonight’s game should be a good one.  It’s almost nap time.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:14 (average 5:00).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: G. Yamazawa takes you back to his childhood to share an important lesson he learned.

Very well said by an authentic Buddhist!

From AlterNet: Gay Marriage Will Of Course Lead To Polygamy: Right-wing radio host and activist Erick Erickson predicted [Wing-nut delinked] that “all the people now saying polygamy is different from gay marriage will be polygamy’s chief advocates within the decade.”

Isn’t it ironic that the people actually practicing polygamy are part of the Republican fringe? This is just one of ten crazy Republican Responses to expanding marriage equality. Click through for the other nine.

From TPM: Republican senators are calling on House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to attach spending limits to an Obamacare program in a bill that must pass in the lame-duck session to keep the federal government open.

The strategy carries echoes of the 2013 government shutdown fight waged by the GOP over defunding Obamacare, although with smaller ambitions this time.

Fourteen conservative senators, led by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), wrote a letter to Boehner on Wednesday calling on him to use the continuing resolution — which must be enacted by Dec. 11 to avert a shutdown — to prohibit "unappropriated and unauthorized funds" under a market stability mechanism in Obamacare known as risk corridors. The program collects funds from insurers who enroll healthier patients and pays insurers who enroll sicker patients.

Even though some will try to appear reasonable and conciliatory for the election, you know that after the voting is done Republicans will still be seditious saboteurs.

  1. 3:25 ~ TC will probably beat everyone because he sees this cute litte rodent as food.

  2. Upworthy ~ Impressive! It's too bad parents teach their children to hate rather than to love. Most do it inadvertently by the way they look at others. Some do it intentionally because they so deeply hate those who are different from them. Dusty Springfield, many years ago, sang "What the world needs now is Love, Sweet Love. It's the only thing that there's just too little of…". This holds true today even more than it did around 50 years ago.

Alternet ~ Do you wonder why they don't speak out against adultery and spousal abuse for destroying marriages? I sdon't because those 2 destructive actions are too much a part of their wonderful family values.

TPM ~ I was told that it is the Democrats attaching ridiculous riders to bills and that's why TeapublicanTs won't pass them. HAH! You and I know the truth about that.

Cartoon ~ No hospital wanted him and his vitriol dirtying their premises.

  3. Thanks TC.

  4. 4:58 average now 5:04.  Guinea pigs got blue eyes?!  Oh, it must be a trick of the light.

The polar ice cap came down all day yesterday, I'm freezing (though the heat is on), my landline phone is in an area outage (how the electricity didn't go out I don't know), it took almost a half hour for the computer to turn on, and the classical radio station's transmitter is dying (they do have a sense of humor, though; they've put on Handel's Water Music and it's coming in spurts).  Anyone who is in a drought is welcome to come put a bucket or twelve in my yard, although if it comes down as hard as yesterday it will probably just splash out.  I hope everyone else has better weather.

Upworthy – If I was a real comparative religion scholar I could probably come up with a lot more citations, but Matthew 15:18 does leap to mind.  (So does James 3:10 which is more about hypocrisy than just control.)  Real human beings have trouble keeping their mouths shut and real people of faith know it and try to work on it, whatever the faith is.  This is very well said indeed.  And very nice to hear about a parent on the side of inclusiveness.

Alternet – You know, I really wouldn't have a problem with polygamy (or polyandry) if it were always fully consensual and always among adults.  What I have a problem with is sexually abusing children, and anyone else in a position of inability to say no.  Also with infidelity, hypocrisy, and deception.  Compared to all of that, open honest polygamy is sweetness and light.

TPM – Well, of course they will have a problem with it, because it makes sense (and I say that as a retired insurance professional).  In theory it also doesn't involve government funds, so of course they will try to stop it.

Cartoon – Patty has a good point.  But of course it's really about privilege.  White entitlement.

  5. The young fellow on the video is a very moving cat!! He has some VERY important things to say and I love them!! He is so eloquent and graceful and I am going to his FB page right now and liking it!!
If the people that are voting in this election doesn’t know that there is a government shutdown in the works by the Teabaggers, they have VERY POOR MEMORIES!!
And the cartoon is so right on!! Limpballs doesn’t have any room to talk about ANYONE using any kind of drugs!!

  6. Puzzle — 3:15  Run Guinea pig, run!!!

Upworthy — Excellent!!  I wanted to add it to my FB page but could not figure out how.  It is something that should be required watching AND listening in the US Congress especially by Republicanus/Teabaggers, and in the Canadian Parliament.

Alternet — Hateful idiots one and all.

"Liberty Counsel chairman Mat Staver warned that marriage equality would be “harmful to individuals” and lead to all “kinds of serious and deadly disease.”"

    OMG!!!  Love might break out!

"We Need To Amend The Constitution To Stop Gay Marriage" — No, we need to amend the Constitution to stop Ted Cruz and the Republicanus/Teabaggers and their hatemongering!

TPM — It makes me sick to see all this bull shit coming from the Republicanus/Teabaggers.  It is very obvious that they only for themselves and their puppet masters, and nothing for the people, some of whom are too stupid to see their lies and actually voted for these immoral whackadoodles!

Cartoon — Super size that barf bag please!

  7. We have had liquid sunshine here in Ky for the last week.  I am ready for the real deal.

Upworthy:  That was a powerful video.  When my son was in 4th grade, as I was picking him up from a Scout meeting, he called another boy "queer".  When he got in the car I asked him "why did you do that" and he said because he is mean and that is what we call people who are mean.  We had a long discussion about the power of words and what they do to other people that evening.  He was just parroting what he had heard at school and had no idea of the harm words cause.  He wore glasses and hated being called "four eyes", so he understood what I was talking about.  I doubt he ever did anyting like that again.

Alternet:  I clicked through.  I am so tired of hearing about the sanctity of marriage from the rightwing. The percentage of divorces is astronomical.  Very few of the young people that I know get married anymore, they live together until they don't like it anymore and then move on.  The last year my sister taught third grade she only had three children in her room who had the same set of parents married to each other. The whole world has changed.  How can allowing two people who love each other get married destroy the fabric of our country as they are alleging?

TPM:  They are preparing the next shutdown, and they do not care how much it hurts the country or people.  They are like spoiled children who throw temper tantrums when they don't get their way.

Cartoon:  I need a barf bag any time I see Rush.

  8. Thanks all.  Hugs all around.  The vid and the cartoon aree opposite ends of the decency spectrum.
