Oct 022014

In September, Politics Plus was excessively slow in all categories.  It was so bad, I feel quite discouraged.  Here is our latest summary:

usage92014

Stats9-2014

In the monthly totals, a Site is any website from which someone accessed our server, a Hit is every access attempt to our server, and a File is every access attempt to our server that returned data.  The difference between Hits and Files is from access attempts that were sent in error or damaged in transit and failed attempts by hackers, spammers, phishers, and Republicans to access the back end and take control of the site.  Any questions?

Here is our latest Clustrmap:

Map9-2014

ClusterMaps misses a lot of, because many visits can’t be easily traced to a location.  It shows only the visits from March 2 to September 6, when it was last updated.  Therefore the map is unchanged from last month.

Here are our top five articles:

A Republican Freedom 9/24/2013 1,095
Jane Smiley: Capitalist Pigs 1/17/2010 717
How Republicans Support Our Troops 5/31/2011 337
A Republican Staffer Tells the Truth! 9/5/2011 308
Last Week’s Republican Lunacies 6/9/2014 251

Several years are represented here, but at least one article from last month should have made the list.

Here are our top non-blog/news referrers:

Google 2,209
Care2 2,186
Stumbleupon 286
Microsoft Bing 108

All are down.

Normally I include 15 here, but these are the only ones with two or more referrals.  Never before have there been so few.  Putting their links here increases the ratings of their sites, so this “linkey love” is our thank you for their support.

Here are our top commentators.  As the resident Big Mouth, I don’t count.  Those who leave their URLs in their comment headers, also get “linkey-love” here.

There are usually only 15, but it was so slow that everyone with only two comments was tied for 13th place.

We have 380,185 links on other websites.

Our Technorati rating no longer exists, because Technorati no longer exists as a blog rating entity.    They have left a vacuum in blog authority rating.  If you learn of someone filling that need before I do, please let me know.

As of Midnight, October 1, we have 51281 articles and 56,750 comments.

I recommend using your own avatar. Go to Gravatar.  Sign up using the email address you use to post comments here and upload the image you want to use as your avatar.  Whenever you comment under that email address here or on any WordPress blog (several others too), that image will become your avatar.

Perhaps where I went wrong is that I stopped promoting the blog on other sites so I could dedicate more time to Care2.  My hope was that Care2 activists would promote the site to make up the difference.  It worked for a while, but no more.  I will have to go back to doing it myself.

The 2014 elections are only five weeks.  If they take the Senate we will have two years of even worse gridlock, because they will continue to sabotage America, hoping to pre3sent themselves as saviors in 2016.  We have the votes to stop them, if they actually vote.

Please get out the vote!

Thank you for everything that you do.

  1. get out and vote 🙂

  2. It would be really, really nice if the slowness were due to all the passionate people who do comment here having been too busy to do so because they were out campaigning.  Sadly, I doubt that across the board (in any case it wouldn't affect those outside the US), but it may still be that, as we note in Alternet, the usual elected suspects are running for election/re-election and being carefully handled to not run their mouths as much as they have been doing all year.  And that could affect non-US readers desire to comment.  Well, we'll see.

  3. When I was still ative on Care2, I sent a lot of people your way. Now i no longer go there because of troubles with their website. I still can't sign in to my account even though my page still exists. They want me to create a new account even though I was a member since 2001. Go figure!

Sorry the numbers are dipping. Maybe as we get closer to elections…

  4. There's SO much political stuff going on lately, that your site might be lost in the tsunami. I've also been lost in the middle of book stuff (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it).

Does your blog get hits from Feedly? That's where I view blog posts. One thing I noticed there is that many of the pages when clicked, show full content in Feedly. Your blog, on the other hand, shows only a few lines. Sometimes, I don't click through. Can you set your display to show full post instead of truncated to a few lines then I need to click on … to read more?

  5. Thanks TC – as I only go to Care2 and Politics Plus, I blush to confess that I have read everything here and understood about one word in five on this subject – I don't know how to recommend anything!

I've just read Lona's comment – and I agree that there have been fewer comments on PP – but that your core support on Care2 remains strong.

Isn't it that our principles are strong that matters, not so much our numbers – and that we will try and encourage everyone we know to vote in your next elections?   I think that most of us here on PP and C2 have suffered more than most in our lives and a lot of us struggle with ill-health and many other problems – but we all love Politics Plus – and in my case as a result I am slightly alarmed to see that I sometimes know as much as commentators on the news when the subject turns to American Politics!  Just like Lona, I wouldn't miss PP for anything and always try and leave a comment no matter how horribly ill I am feeling – we need to support each other, and I think you need to know how much we value you and PP – 'cos we do!

  6. If people don't click through to your site, then it wouldn't count for you, would it? Marva asked: "Does your blog get hits from Feedly? That's where I view blog posts. 7. Back to school, college days, vacation, moving, winterizing homes and some are campaigning for their favorite candidate(s) within their own state and in other states may account for the low turnout of comments in Politics Plus. Most people will be back especially during the cold winter months and they all want to stay nice and cozy warm, afraid to go outside. lol. We do love our creature comforts.

I go directly to TC’s C2 page using this link in C2. From there, I click onto the visit site. The link is also saved as a bookmark.

I take care of My Daily Clicks and a few petitions prior to TomCat all the while I’m having my first cuppa of strong coffee. Wake-up time – lol.

  8. I agree with Jim that things may well pick up once harvest etc is done and the cold weather sets in.  I know I try to get in everyday because I continue to learn so much from you and other commenters . . . but I have missed a few days when it could not be avoided.  I am amazed that there isn't a lot yet about the upcoming elections. Mind they are "only" midterms and maybe that is the problem.  If that is the case, 2010 should be a reminder that midterms ARE important.  Here in Metro Vancouver, there are elections on 15 November but there have yet to be any platform announcements or signs.  I know there are tight rules around signage but platforms should be out and people talking.

Personally, I think you are doing a GREAT job!  And don't forget that you have needed to take a few days off too.  Also, when the Elephant in the room gets kicked out by the Dems, then news will start to fly again!

  9. I agree with Jim and Lynn, people are outside or on vacation during summer.  Winter is coming and people will start staying home.  I click here through Care 2 and I try to do it every night because I always learn something from you and I enjoy reading comments from like minded people.  I relay your messages to my sister, who is not on Care 2, she tells some of her friends, too.  Although this doesn't get reflected in your report, there are still people out there who benefit without coming to the site.  Don't give up, we count on you too much.

  10. Thanks all.  I'm sorry.  Seeing such low numbers was a real shock,  The reason that counting for PP is important is that it effects our page rank. I don't want links from Bubba Bagger's Butt Buddies Blog Appearing ahead of ours in the search engines.

I changed the feed to display full test.

Of course the people who feel guilty are those of you with the least reason to feel that way.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
