I’m writing for tomorrow, day 162It’s a busy week.  Today my helper friend is coming to help finish the major cleaning.  Tomorrow, I order groceries.  Wednesday is grocery delivery day, and Thursday, I have a doctor’s appointment with a complete blood workup.  That means fasting and all day waiting for Lift vans.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:57 (average 4:43).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: One nominee proposed reclassifying single parenthood as child abuse. Another suggested that four “blood moons” would herald “world-changing, shaking-type events” and said Islam was not a religion but a “complete geopolitical structure” unworthy of tax exemption. Still another labeled Hillary Rodham Clinton “the Antichrist.”

Congressional Republicans successfully ended their primary season with minimal damage, but in at least a dozen safe or largely safe Republican House districts where more mild-mannered Republicans are exiting, their likely replacements will pull the party to the right, a move likely to increase division in an already polarized Congress.

I predict an increase in the level of Republican criminal sedition in 2015.

Click through for an interesting read, but I can help them find their ass. Here!

Neither should we appease the Republican Party, which is just as dangerous.

  1. Sorry TC – having internet probs at the moment…. deepest sympathies with your Thursday's day of ordeal – fasting for so long then waiting for Lift vans – I do hope all goes well!

  2. Daily Kos:
Just in case you do not recognize the photo of the “ass”, his name is Darrel Issa. He is responsible for putting the language and words that the USPS should pre-fund retiree benefits 75 years into the future. Issa has also wasted million and millions of tax dollars including another Benghazi investigation (Google: Darrell Issa Benghazi).

  3. 3:09 Lovely acorns.

  4. 4:57 average now 4:44  After looking around, I guess that is a southern live oak or a laurel oak.  California coastal live oak leaves are shorter than that and have points. http://www.hastingsreserve.org/oakstory/AcornCountPics/coast_live.jpg  There is a book called "Oak: The Frame of Civilization" which in covering the oak in history touches on acorns as food.  Apparently they are not bad if you get the tannins out, and are extremely filling.  He tried some (cooked) for breakfast and forgot to eat until dinner and was quite shocked, as usually his stomach clock went off at noon long and loud.  Since oaks are one of the trees whose pollens I react to, I would be nervous myself.  And I'm sure that is way more about oaks and acorns than you ever wanted to know.

I don't know how your doctor does it, but for mine the fast is from midnight (so you could have dinner after the delivery unless they are as late as 11:30 p.m.) and you may have water, BLACK coffee, and medications.  I'm not a tea drinker so have never asked, but I would assume plain tea, not herbal, no lemon or sugar or milk would also be acceptable.  Since transportation is such an issue, I'll bet you take some "dry kibble" along to eat after the blood is drawn and alleviate the hassles of the return home.  Good luck.  I just had mine recently and it came out pretty good.  The few anomalies are, he says, nothing to worry about.

NY Times – I saw the link to this in Kos, clicked through and couldn't get past the fourth paragraph the one that suggests Boehner may get dumped as Speaker for being too liberal) without a barf bag.  No alert?  But thanks for putting Buzzfeed immediately after to help take away the aftertaste.

Daily Kos – Well, this is a wee bit better news, but ine state is not going to win us the House and the Senate, which we desperately need to do.  For those of you getting emails, my "real" email is with Yahoo and they empty my trash ever Sunday morning.  This is Tuesday at 9:52 am and I just opened my email and I have 477 in trash which I deleted without opening just since Sunday morning (repeat, that does not include any I opened).  And 124 unread in the inbox (some of which, of course, I will open; my guess would be 30).  (Plus 19 in spam.)  None of those are from Republicans.  Putting that in a little perspective, there are only 535 members of Congress with the House and Senate combined.  Two-thirds of the Senate is NOT up for reelection.  How I wish I could afford to give something to everyone who needs it.  Alas, not in this lifetime.

Cartoon – Not just the GOP.  Too many Dems are trying appeasement too.

    • My Doctor does it the same way, so I'll eat a late supper.  Then I'll take a snack with, because God only knows how ling it will take to get home.

  5. The GOP is irrelevant in CA and we are much better for it.  As goes CA, so goes the US.

  6. Whew, I thought that I had a busy week, you topped mine.

NY Times:  This is very worrisome, we have had enough obstruction from the Teabaggers who are all ready there, if we get more, and heaven forbid, lose the senate, too, this country will be destroyed. They may enact their on version of Sharia law.

Buzzfeed: You know I clicked through and shared.  I started feeding another stray, she had five kittens six weeks ago, now I have ten cats.  Trying desperately to find good homes for them. If only people would spay and neuter.

Daily Kos:  If only they were in such disarray here.  However, the Koch brothers are so determined to see Mitch back in office that they are funding lots of ads for Republicans in Kentucky this year.  Alison is still holding her on, and I hope that Central Kentucky, which is not dependent on coal will help my sister and me elect her, because the two of us are a real minority in E.Kentucky.

Cartoon:  And that showed  how well appeasement works!

  7. Puzzle — 3:08  OK TC, you've been hanging out with squirrels too long . . . you got the nuts before we even had a chance!

NY Times — “Glen Grothman knows when it’s time to stand up and say no.”  Well I say, American voters better know when it is time to stand up and say NO to every Republicanus/Teabagger candidate, whether municipal, state or federal!

Get out the vote!  Vote blue!

Buzzfeed — I like your #22 because it reminds me why I don't put toilet paper on a roller!  But my favourite would be #16 . . . the boy has class cracking a cold Canadian beer!

Daily Kos — When I was a branch manager in a Canadian bank, we had contests from time to time to see who could get the most referrals for whatever product was up.  Staff would beat each other up (figuratively) going after the same people.  I finally put my foot down and reminded them that we are trying to beat the Royal Bank, not each other.  This situation in California reminds me of the issue I had with staff.  Republicanus/Teabaggers are at each other's throats instead of being smart, listening to the people, and competing with Democrats.  It is as if the entire Republicanus/Teabagger party, municipal, state and federal has a severe case of political necrotizing fasciitis.

Cartoon — Chamberlain may have appeased Hitler, but he also pissed him off royally!  A good account of the political intrigue can be found in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_Agreement .
