I’m writing for tomorrow, day 154.  I’m hurrying to finish, because services at the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb is about to start.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:44 (average 6:05).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Religious Overtime Agony:

It was one hell of a meditation.  Congrats to the Seachickens.  Please pass the sour grapes.  Stinking Orb!!!

Short Takes:

From NY Times: Democrats are stepping up their appeals to older voters in the final stretch before the midterm elections, spurred by polls showing the party has regained some support lost in the Obama years. The question is whether they can narrow the gap with Republicans enough to offset their broader disadvantages given widespread dissatisfaction with President Obama.

Both parties covet voters 65 and older because that group tends to make up a disproportionately large share of the midterm electorate. Democrats long had an edge, until less-supportive baby boomers aged and began replacing the Depression-era generation in the ranks of older voters. Now Democrats are reliant on young voters, as well as minorities and single women, many of whom vote only in presidential elections.

“Doing even a little bit better with seniors can have a substantial impact,” Geoff Garin, a Democratic pollster, said. Like some Republican pollsters, he has seen Democrats improve their standing with older voters in polls in states with hotly contested Senate races. His explanation: “I think the Democratic advantage on protecting Medicare and Social Security has reasserted itself.”

That’s a valid strategy with plenty of basis in fact. Republicans never have given up on their plans to turn Social Security over to the Banksters and turn Medicare over to Big Insurance.

From Crooks and Liars: Jon Stewart wasn’t the only one to take fearmongering Lindsey Graham to task for his bedwetting, unhinged rant that ISIS was coming to kill us all. Bill Maher went after Graham and his BFF John McCain, otherwise known as "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" during his New Rules segment this Friday night.

Cool! This is the rest of what I brought you a couple days ago. He outdid himself!

From Me: Somewhere, deep in the backwoods of the land of InsaniTEA there’s a little town with nothing but a post office, a gas station, and a tavern… and, of course, a cop, Deputy Dingbat!.  As was his custom, Deputy Dingbat headed for the tavern.  Outside, he saw a dog tied under a tree.  He went inside and saw Bubba Bagger sitting alone at the bar.
Deputy: Bubba, is that your dog outside?
Bubba: Sure is!
Deputy:  Well, Bubba, your dog is in heat.
Bubba: Couldn’t be.  I tied her in the shade.
Deputy:  No Bubba.  The dog need to be bred.
Bubba: No chance.  I gave her some corn bread this morning.
Deputy: Bubba, you’re an idiot!  The dog needs to be screwed!!
Bubba: OOOOhhhh!  I get it!  Would you do it, Deputy?  I always wanted a police dog!

  1. Maher is great.  Had me ROTF

  2. 6:55 (average up to 6:17)  Native to "North America, Eurasia, and North Africa."  And disappeared or about to disappear from all of them.  Thanks to humans.

NY Times – Well, they've got me.  I know which side my bread is buttered on (and I don't fall for margarine).  What I don't understand is what happened to the baby boomers.  Being only 5 months removed from being one (on the old side) I had the impression when we were all young that they did support progressive ideals.  And civil rights.  How the Democratic Party became liberal, I understand.  How baby boomers became conservative, not so much.

Crooks and Liars – I ran across this too and laughed loudly.  "The United States of Pants-Shitters."  I've had that impression ever since 9-11 but could never have put it into words like that.  Yes.

TC – Some jokes never get old!  Especially when well told.

Cartoon – and how today's Republican Party would love to repeal it.

  3. Whether it was sangria-fueled or not, gotta LOVE the chutzpah of this gal having her picture taken with Rick "Don't-My-New-Glasses-At-Least-Make-Me-LOOK-Smart" Perry while she's giving him The Finger!

  4. 3:54 What regal looking animals.

  5. FF ~ I'm not too happy with my team today either. What a beating I took!

NY Times ~ I cannot, for the life of me, understand how anyone my age can vote for a TeaPublicanT. Call me stupid, I guess.

Crooks & Liars ~ I've watched this 3 times and have laughed out loud each time. I agree that the journalists put themseves into dangerous situations. No one forces them to go. I recognize their courage but we can't go to war everytime something happens to them.

From Me ~ Ha ha ha!

Cartoon ~ Another part of the Constitution the TeapublicanTs wish woud disappear.

  6. Hey man, usually de dog have a number of puppies,so maybe you get a squad of police dogs!

  7. NY Times:  Any Senior citizen who is dependent upon Social Security and Medicare would have to have dementia to vote for a Republican!

Crooks and Liars:  Bill Maher is sooo right.  We are in more danger from Monsanto and Dow Chemical than we will ever be from ISIS.  Mccain and Graham spend too much time fighting the boogey man and not enough time actually trying to help this country.

Cartoon:  the Republicans will really hate for this anniversary to be acknowledged.

  8. Puzzle — 3:47  What beautiful animals!

FF — Glad to see that so far I am running ahead of the Purple Demons!

Religious Ecstasy — Go Seahawks!!!  There are a lot of Seahawks fans here in Metro Vancouver . . . I guess because it is closest.  Just like how I picked my FF players last year . . . if I liked the name, they were in . . . I like the name "Seahawks" but I don't meditate.

NY Times — I am a boomer and remember we were the "free love", pot smoking, peacenik generation . . . the flower children.  I am still that way (the purple hair maybe gives that away) but just better able to express it and understand, and I hope wiser.  Perhaps some of those conservative boomers have become their parents.  I really think that the Democrats need to keep the Republicanus/Teabagger promise to gut social security and privatise Medicare front and centre while laying out their plans to protect it.

Crooks and Liars — Maher is great!  Question:  If minimum wage Smedley went out his front door one day and took a wrong turn ending up in northern Iraq, would the Ghost and Mr Chicken be raising a ruckus, filling their pants and inciting the rest of the country like they are doing now?  Or if there were no imminent election, would they be filling their drawers and inciting the population?

From You — Deputy Dingbat and Bubba Bagger . . . a match made in heaven, the right wing pseudo Christian heaven.

Cartoon — 152 years later and it is still an issue with the Republicanus/Teabaggers.

  9. I too can't understand why baby boomers went selfish and money obsessed – unless it is the classic way of breaking anyone's principles – don't put them under pressure, give them plenty of money, then yet more money – and they will slowly lose their principles and defend their pots of gold (I just made a typo and typed 'pots of god' – and I nearly left it as it was so right for them!) and their politics will go further and further to the Right….

Crooks and Liars – am having to save the video till later – I would say though that the Right are bound to be drum banging and fear-mongering so as to increase their power and increase their share of the vote – and lets face it, it does usually work (sigh!).

Cartoon – and not a gun in sight, those obsessed by the second amendment would be astounded to note (two officer's swords carefully placed leaning on a chair) but no guns!

  10. Thanks all.  Busy day.  At least my fantasy team won!!
