I’m writing for tomorrow, day 153.  Yesterday, when I returned from physical therapy, I hit the wall.  I slept from Noon until 5:30, almost didn’t make it to the bathroom, ate, and prepared the Personal Update.  Then I slept from 6:30 until 11:30, almost didn’t make it to the bathroom, did the puzzle, posted the Personal Update, and ate.  Then I slept from 12:30 until 6:00, almost didn’t make it to the bathroom and ate.  Today, I’ve been researching and working on my notebook in preparation for Wednesday’s trip to Salem.  Tomorrow is a Holy Day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  My Broncos’ worship will be televised.  I’m hoping for a communion feast of fricassee of Seachicken, but few teams are harder to beat at home than Seattle.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:11 (average 4:41).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: In an eleventh-hour development that could have an unpredictable effect on the vote to determine Scottish independence, Queen Elizabeth II took to the British airwaves on Thursday to excoriate the Scots in a one-hour, profanity-laden tirade.

The Queen’s speech began with the phrase “Listen, you Scottish bastards,” and became steadily saltier as the monarch blasted her subjects for having the impudence to consider leaving the fold.

“I’ll make you heel like a litter of [Anglo-Saxon vulgarity] corgis,” she said, as her rage reached a crescendo…

Andy gave us quite a revelation. I guess she must have whipped them into obedience, since "No" won.

From Daily Kos: Our kids are standing up against homophobia, racism, sexism, and despair. They’re standing up in North Carolina’s Moral Mondays’ movement and across the country for their right to vote. They’re standing up in Ferguson, Mo against racism and taking their town back. They will be standing up and marching this Sunday in the People’s Climate March. Our own Joan Brooker’s documentary film students are bringing their cameras and their spirits to the march.

Our young people stood up this Tuesday in Virginia for love instead of hate.  When an anti-gay, self described, "Preacher" showed up at James Madison University to tell gay students they were going to hell, students responded to his hate with love.

Here is the Republican hatemonger:

Barf Bag Alert!!

Here are the kids shutting him down!

Kudos to the kids!  Is there any question about who the authentic Christians are?

From Raw Story: Bill Maher says Palin needs to stop wearing her ‘mom genes’

Obviously it isn’t the entire segment, but any Maher is better than none, especially when he nails Drill Baby Dingbat!

  1. As I have said before, Tom,  even though I live in Seattle, I am totally with you and the Broncos unless the Niners are playing.

  2. 5:28 average up to 4:59  Perhaps more people who are less speedy are starting to enjoy playing?

New Yorker – Sometimes I guess he can find a topic for satire that is really recognizable as satire.  I'll just say that's – um – not the Queen Elizabeth I have known all my life.

Daily Kos – Yes, that was just great.  And great that it happened in Virginia.  Perhaps the "preacher" needs to be reminded that giving people someone to look down on is just a fund-raising tool – not Christianity.  That's not how Lyndon Johnso said it, but it's what it boils down to.

Raw Story – It was less than 10 years ago that I first heard A-shirts referred to as "wifebeaters."  But I was instantly sure the original reference was to "A Streetcar Named Desire."  I guess you never know how far a literary snippet will go or what turn it will take.

    Cartoon – Yup.

  3. Daily Kos – brilliant students, God bless them – and Joanne is utterly correct!

Raw Story and the cartoon – both painfully accurate!

  4. 3:53 ~ I'mnot too twisted up today.

  5. New Yorker ~ Andy's last couple of columns have not had his usual acerbic wit.

Daily Kos ~ It is things like this that reaffirm my faith in people. Maybe the RepublicanTs attempt to "dumb down" America didn't work as well as they wanted.

Raw Story ~ Failin' Palin has some really bad Mom genes and her whole family inherited them.

    Cartoon ~ Sad, but true.

  6. THe Scottish vote. Read it and weep my American friends. That is REAL DEMOCRACY. NO voter suppression, NO KOCHS. Just people making up their minds and being listened to. Americans should be jealous.

The Brish showing the way on DEMOCRACY!

    The queen!! SATIRE ANYONE!?

  7. Puzzle — 3:31  I'm at the top . . . one of your twisted friends (I hope!).

The New Yorker — That isn't even close to being queenly.  She has to watch herself as her rôle as monarch is not a political one (I believe there are laws against the Royals dabbling in political rhetoric etc) and, she has estates in Scotland . . . Balmoral comes to mind.

Daily Kos — Well if the LGBT students are going to hell, he'll be there first to greet them!  I noticed that there were police or campus security present keeping an eye on things.  This idiot should have been sent packing, off the campus, away from studying students.  His kind are a blight on the face of humanity.

Raw Story — I am so sick of hearing about Bulls Eye Barbie and her reality TV show family.  I used to be able to laugh at her absolute absurdity, but enough is enough.

Cartoon — Oh!  Look!  It's the USRT (US Republicanus/Teabagger) Titanic . . . and it is bow heavy in the choppy waters of midterms!  How's that wind in your face, elephant?

  8. It was a great game. Denver did really well.

    Hope your're feeling better!

    Take care!

    Nancy

  9. My first reponse got "timed out" and deleted.  Trying again.

I am glad you got some much needed sleep and hope you have a good trip to Salem.

The New Yorker:  It is hard to imagine the Queen using profanity!  Funny, though.

Daily Kos:  These kids give me hope.

Bill Maher:  it is a good thing Sarah didn't have a drill with her!

    Cartoon:  That says it all.
