Sep 202014

I’m writing for tomorrow, day 152.  With four hours sleep in the last two days, when I returned from physical therapy, I was good for one thing only.  I slept for four hours.  Time for more.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:23 (average 4:40).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

  1. Looks like a thinner version of my Tuxedo cat when he says:

"That tummy isn't going to scratch itself – so get busy!"

  2. 4:51 (average up to 4:43)  The Emerald Isle looks more like the Tigereye Isle in this picture.  Ah, autumn.

JL's (Care2) information and advice is sound.  I might only add that when we think of medications and sleep, we think about using meds to sleep.  It seldom occurs to us that some medication we are taking for something else may be part of the problem.  So before this conversation, if you choose to have it, make up (and take along) a complete meds list of what you are taking, how much and how often, including both prescription and non-prescription OTC as well as supplements.  I also include topicals and inhalants when I make mine.  Even stuff I only use occasionally.  (If you think you're not taking anything, or only a little, or even if you think you are taking a lot, I'll bet it will open your eyes.)

    • Absolutely right, we take too many pills and have no idea how they're all interacting with each other and with our own chemistry and if they're really doing any good.

  3. Oh TC – so relaxed as you look!

For decades I existed on around 3 – 4 hours sleep a night – it improved immensely when I found some things that my body had been lacking – (in my case) Natural Thyroid Extract and Iodine, also Magnesium – I had been taking tablets for years but still got muscle cramps etc – eventually found on the net that some people don't think these tablets work (I didn't either at that stage) and put magnesium solution on my skin – you can use 'Magnesium Oil' but this contains preservatives to help its shelf life and perfumes, so I can't use it.  They are also based on dissolving Magnesium Chloride in water – and I have a problem with halides, so I use Magnesium Sulphate/Magnesium Sulfate/Epsom Salts – less easily absorbed but still very good, I find – also very cheap and easily available.  There are other things too – but one can be short of all sorts of obscure compounds through no fault of one's own if  one (for example) have the MTHFR genes in any combination….  and once one gets hold of the right things they help immensely – but finding out which particular whatsit one needs is a rather difficult journey.

Praying for you to have a good night, TC!

  4. Could it be possible you need a new mattress? Sometimes that's the last thing people think of when they are having trouble sleeping. Others here also had great suggestions. Personally I wouldn't be able to sleep well if I had to  cover the Republicans. It's much appreciated because I cannot watch FOX news so I get a lot of what they say thanks to you. Good luck on your game tomorrow, may your favorite team win. I hope you get some much deserved sleep. – Nancy

  5. I love how cats can relax in any position.  This little tuxie is adorable!

  6. 3:04  You really are a pooped puddy tat if I can beat you!

Sleep is so important, but really good sleep is even more important.  I take Trazadone now (the joys of depression) which is not a sleeping pill but an anti-anxiety pill taken before bed.  I get much more quality sleep now.  I also started taking magnesium and calcium at supper time and the reduction in leg cramps etc is very marked. Melatonin has also worked.  Meditation (not the religious kind!) can also help.  Good luck getting the sleep under control.

  7. I hope you got a good night's rest.  My next door neighbors are having a party in their back yard with lots of beer and loud music,  dont plan to get much sleep tonight.

  8. Thanks all. I'm feeling almost rested now. I'm pretty sure I know what's behind it. Between my writing and my volunteer work, there has been so much to keep track of lately that my mind starts racing. In addition, the horrific acts of the Republican Party and similar agents of oppression, like ISIL, can be depressing. I only pass on a small portion of what I research each day.

I will have that chat with my doctor on 10/2. All my doctors have my complete meds list, as complete as Joanne suggested. The last two items on that list are:

Dulcolax — rarely — as needed for Republicitis.

Imodium — rarely — as needed for Republicosis.
