I’m writing for tomorrow day 149.  I need to get busy to prepare my notebook for next week’s Salem trip, and I have a grocery delivery coming tomorrow, so I remain quite busy.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:01 (average 4:38).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Fantasy Football Report:

Here’s the latest from our own fantasy football league, Lefty Blog Friends:

If you wish to follow our league, you may do so here.

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: The Neo-Confederate movement has been trying to jump start itself of late.  It has been an especially heady few months for the League of the South, a theocratic, White nationalist group based in Killen, Alabama

Some of its leading members have been running for office in Maryland.  And League president Michael Hill has gone so far as to call for the formation of paramilitary death squads. He now claims that he wasn’t doing any such thing, but that if he were, we would just have to find out for ourselves. (We, being liberal "bedwetters.")

Anyway, as it turned out, just around the time Hill was protesting too much, the Southern Poverty Law Center learned that the League was indeed organizing a secret paramilitary unit which calls itself "The Indomitables."

ISIL… Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christian version!

From Crooks and Liars: Once again, the ladies and gentlemen of our Corporate Media show how very out of touch they are with those who don’t travel in the same rarefied circles.

In keeping with their self-appointed roles as political gatekeepers, Mrs. Greenspan and Chris Cillizza quickly discount the report from reporter Perry Bacon Jr., in which he says Democrats are expressing doubts that Hillary Clinton is liberal enough for them.

The marquee stars quickly discount that. Mrs. Greenspan notes that while getting 350 people to come out to an Iowa church basement, as Bernie Sanders did, is "a lot," she and Cillizza quickly discount him because blah blah blah, he can’t raise the big money that an Elizabeth Warren can.

And this is the network Republicans claim is all librul.

From TPM: Liberal comedian Bill Maher confessed that he’s not actually an atheist in a Monday Funny Or Die video.

He said that he just plays an atheist and is actually quite religious.

Do you think we should believe him?

  1. Excellent (if rather painful) cartoon!

    Bill Maher is so funny…

Daily Kos – you WHAT???!!!  What the heck is in the drinking water over there?!  I clicked through for the full article – most disturbing.

    Thanks TC!

  2. 3:12 I seem to have tied myself up in knots.

  3. FF ~ Tom, is there any reason for the projections not appearing on the My Team pages?

Daily Kos ~ Americans have much more reason to worry about these home-grown terrorist groups than any on foreign soil. I notices Lindsay Graham is having the vapors over ISIL but doesn't care a lick about his fellow Southern terrorists.

Crooks & Liars ~ Haley Barbour claims MSNBC is a Liberal outlet? If they were, they would be pushing Bernie for Prez. I think he has more support than people think right now. He may be able to beat Hillary in the primary.

TPM ~ He's just putting us on.

Cartoon ~ I'm sure they tote their firearms to church just in case the devil shows up to claim their souls.

  4. Will Hillary split the party?  Sanders or Warrern would be more on message with Obama.  Is Biden to old?  2016 has more questions than answers.  I hope who ever gets the nomination all liberals will stand together.  Because if the party goes split we may lose to a clown.

Maher has a point.  Cartoon~~~ terrorist the New religion?  Is it?

  5. 4:41 Nice to see hemp.

Daily Kos – Yeah.  How do they deal with their cognitive dissonance?  Oh, wait.  Thay don'e have any.  Libruls are evil, end of story.  "Indomitables."  My God.  Which one had enough book learnin' to find that in the dictionary (the only way they could have come up with a four-syllable word).

Crooks and Liars – I am not sure that this segment demonstrates they are out of touch.  I would kill (well maybe not really, but something drastic) to see Bernie or Elizabeth as President, and I don't think that raising funds is the heart of the challenge, but my assessment of their chances based on what we know today is just about what they described.  How much would I love to be wrong?  I would think I had died and gone to heaven.  But no one on TV is paid to explain how much they hope they are wrong.

Funny or Die – He had me right up to where he said he gives all his money to churches to "enforce religious dogma."  Although, truth to tell, if he were religious (which would not be impossible), the religious expression shown is not what the religion would look like.

Cartoon – Way too true to be funny.

  6. Hi Tom!  Long time no …. LOL

He really really is an atheist.  Though, he'd do just about anything for ratings.  IMO.

  7. New topic today, but returning to one from 09/11 – specifically 9/11/73.

Not only have we not learned from our errors in 1973, but we have institutionalized them.  The School of of the Amercas (SOA) is a combat training school, currently at Fort Benning, Georgia, for Latin American soldiers.  It's had a name change because people in Latin America were calling it the "School of Assassins," but not a mission change.

You can get all kinds of details (including a database of graduates) at SOA Watch (http://www.soaw.org) and I encourage all to do so, but I bring it up because the far right is currently trying to push through a sanctions bill against Venezuela which is not based on facts, and there is a petition to Senator Reid not to bring it to a vote.  The petition is at http://org.salsalabs.com/o/727/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=16429  I encourage everyone to at least read it.

Does anyone think we would have the current crisis of refugee children at our borders had the SOA been abolished years ago?

  8. Hey, TC – I see the Rethuglican candidate for Oregon's Senate seat, Dr. Monica Wehby, got caught plagiarizing "her" Health Care Plan directly from Karl Rove's Crossroads Super PAC site:

    http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/doctor-oregon-gop-senate-candidates-health-plan-plagiarized#1iovnnv

Her spokeperson's response when confronted about it is a gem:

“Dr. Wehby is too busy performing brain surgery on sick children to respond, sorry.”

Of course that begs the question: Why is she running for office if she's already too busy saving the brains of little children?

Then again, she did manage to find time to go around stalking her boyfriend, didn't she?

    http://politicalwire.com/archives/2014/05/16/senate_hopeful_accused_of_stalking_boyfriend.html

PS WRT the Toon: I find nothing in Scriptures – NOTHING AT ALL – that would indicate Jesus would be a card-carrying NRA member.  In fact, just the opposite.

  9. Daily Kos:  I wonder how many other schools of "Indomintables" there are? This is frightening.

Crooks and Liars:  MSNBC is as close to liberal media as we are going to get, but so long as they have Joe Scarborough on, they are not liberal

TPM:  Bill was just having some fun

    Cartoon: Sad, but seemingly true..

  10. Puzzle — 3:12  I just can't move fast enough on 4 feet!

Daily Kos — In a short Daily Kos article that appeared earlier, there was a reference to a SPLC Hatewatch Report on the League of the South http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2014/09/05/exclusive-league-of-the-south-forming-paramilitary-unit-called-the-indomitables/ .  The uncertainty of this terrorist group, and I do consider it a domestic terrorist and hate group, takes me back to Québec in 1970 when the FLQ (Le Front de Libération du Québec) was active, kidnapping James Cross the British High Commissioner, murdering Pierre LaPorte a Cabinet Minister, and setting off bombs and molotov cocktails.  As a Québec native living in Ontario, I got a few funny looks, but the worst was feeling like I would no longer have a country based on the rhetoric.  I feel for the good people of the south who do not agree with these LOS crazies because uncertainty really screws things up.

Crooks & Liars — Right now as I understand, Bernie caucuses with the Democrats but is an Independent. Would he be a challenger to Hillary for the Democratic nomination or would he stand as an independent running against Hillary and the GOP clown?  Just curious.  Personally, I think that Bernie would be fair, measured, and then there is the idea that there really WOULD BE a socialist in the White House!

TPM — Maher really is pulling everyone's leg.  The kicker was when he used the phrase "enforce religious dogma."  That's too hardcore for a seriously religious person, IMO.

Cartoon — I wonder if the pseudo Christian right hollows out their Bibles to store their guns at the Matthew 22 page where it says " Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.' All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.'"
