I’m writing for tomorrow, day 148.  Yesterday’s change in schedule did me in totally.  By the time Midnight arrived, my face was hovering over the keyboard.  I had a decent night’s sleep, so I’m feeling half-human again.  I was most pleased (not to mention relieved) with the Broncos’ win.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:04 (average 5:22).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Liberals Unite: Friday night in a live show, Bill Maher talked about the polarization currently in this country. He said that the main reason for this polarization was Fox News.

Was the Republican fool outmatched or what?

From Upworthy: This video is chock-full-o hilariously absurd questions, right? The questions sound absurd because it’s strange to ask them. Lesbians are asked these questions all the time.

Personally, I have been "guilty" of telling gay and lesbian people that I support their rights. On the other hand, with Republicans trying so hard to take those rights away, perhaps LGBT folks need all the "guilty" supporters they can get.

From Daily Kos Elections Digest: NH-02: Well, the Club for Growth sure drafted quite the piece of work up in New Hampshire. State Rep. Marilinda Garcia, who just won the GOP primary to take on Democratic Rep. Annie Kuster, absolutely loves to holler about how awful Obamacare is, which is exactly what you’d expect from a cookie-cutter tea partier nominated with hefty Club support. Only the local public radio station just managed to get Garcia to choke pretty hard on those cookie crumbs:

But when asked about her own health care coverage, Garcia demurred.

Garcia: "I… that’s my own issue."

NHPR: "So you don’t want to say?"

Garcia: "No that’s fine, I don’t need to share everything."

NHPR: "I bet it will come up again. Probably that’s something the media will want to know, with you making health care an issue in your campaign."

Garcia: "My constituents talk to me so I am not here running on my own issues. I am expressing what they come up with."

NHPR: "Is it fair to say you are not getting your health care through Obamacare, through the (federal) exchange?"

Garcia: "I don’t need to talk about that. Thank you."

Oh! Oh, but you do! You do need to talk about that, Rep. Garcia, because if you’re trashing our current health care system, you need to explain what your alternatives are. And if your personal "alternative" is, in fact, Obamacare, then your would-be constituents deserve to know. Garcia’s campaign claimed after this disastrous interview that no, she’s not covered under the Affordable Care Act, but if that’s the case, why couldn’t she just explain that at the time? And has she provided any proof? No, this one’s not going to go away quite as readily as Garcia wishes.

Republicans figure that they deserve the benefits, but YOU don’t.

  1. 3:52 ~` I have a silly hug for a Scilla Hughii. It doesn't look like a real flower. It looks like a drawing.

  2. I'm excited!  I'm now heading out the door to our NEW IKEA here in KCMO!  (OK – it's on the other the Metro, but still close.)

I've been to the two in Chicago and the one in Minneapolis a couple of times – so having one just 22 miles away will be a treat!

  3. Liberals Unite ~ Haley Barbour was out of his element that night. He cannot match wits with the likes of Bill Maher. When he said Bill was the Liberals' equivalent of FAUX, he was downright crazy on InsaniTea. Bill is on HBO 1 hour a week. FAUX is on repeating the same meme 24 hours 7 days a week. MSNBC can't be called Liberal either. If anything they give both sides an almost equal platform. How can you call Joe Scarborough a Liberal?

Upworthy ~ That video was adorable. I have personally heard these questions asked of my nephew (gay) and my neighbors (lesbian). No matter how many times I hear them I am always taken aback. I have asked them how they put up with it but they just laugh at the questioners because they feel the way the women do in this video. Think before you speak!

Daily Kos ~ Do as I say, not as I do! I have a friend who is a britte diabetic. Her significant other advised her not to get health insurance thrugh the Exchanges. We had a great one here in NY. He is a supporter of Richard Hanna (R) in the House who voted to repeal Obamacare umteen times. He told her she would be able to get coverage after the Reps had their way and repealled that terrible law.He is covered BTW.  Now she struggles to get her insulin every month. I advised her to get insured as soon as open enrollment opens again. She only works part time and health care is not offered to her. This is what they meant by Death Panels.

Cartoon ~ Little did they know what they woud start with their voyage.

  4. 5:26  So – the JigZone staff is mildly colorblind?  Or just so nearsighted that the stamens and the inner section of the petals are one big blur?  I'm not sure how else they would get to turquoise from indigo plus a little yellow.  Or, wait – maybe they just think that "turquoise" is an umbrella name that includes cerulean.  It isn't.

Liberals unite – I couldn't see it ans couldn't find it elsewhere.  Someone probably will – I'll check back later.

Upworthy – it's always educational and usually amusing to hear sterotypes turned around.  This was both.

DK – Yes, kudos to NHPR.  Let's hope she gets appropriately pushed on this.

Cartoon – They called themselves "Saints" and everyone else aboasd "Strangers," which sounds quite Republican to me.  They did lose one Saint who was "replaced" by a birth at sea.  Apparently being all, literally and figuratively, in the same boat, they considered themselves all one percenters, whom Republicans can manage to take care of.

  5. Cartoon:
Mayflower: Along the way, the settlers formulated and signed the Mayflower Compact, an agreement that bound the signatories into a “civil body politic.” Because it established constitutional law and the rule of the majority, the compact is regarded as an important precursor to American democracy.

  6. So glad you got a good night's sleep.

The Bill Maher video has been removed.

Upworthy:  Good examples of what not to say if you are trying to support a gay or lesbian.  I have had gay and lesbian friends since I was a teen back in the stone age when NO ONE came out, so I don't remember ever asking any of these questions.  Thankfully.

Daily Kos:  I hope, hope, hope that she has Obama care.  That would be perfect, she is campaigning against it, but uses it. Typical Republican hypocracy.

    Cartoon: You analysis is correct!

  7. Personal — Sorry I didn't make it in yesterday . . . my internet was down which is really maddening, especially so when my sprained foot limits me.  TC, I don't suppose your cleaning lady would consider coming north of the border for a change of scenery?  I'm still on crutches and will be for another week probably.  I am severely bruised on all sides of my foot (including the bottom and all my toes) and find that if I have my foot down too long, my foot swells and looks like the Goodyear blimp!  At least I can drive.  When I went for a few groceries, the store manager actually went around and picked up the necessities for me then took them out to the car.  I have so many doors etc held for me that I am finding there really are considerate and nice people still.  I am accustomed to holding doors etc, so I guess there really is karma as one person said to me.  Next thing will be going to see my mother on crutches next weekend if I still have them (likely).

Puzzle — 3:31  Beautiful colours . . . matches my hair and my bruises.

Liberals Unite — The video has been removed, however, having listened to Maher many times, anyone going up against Bill Maher is pretty much outmatched.

Upworthy — "I have been "guilty" of telling gay and lesbian people that I support their rights. "  — Yeah, me too!  Guilty as charged! . . . and proud of it!

Daily Kos — NHPR 1  Garcia 0  That's a score I like.  Of course Garcia is covered by Obamacare!  Otherwise, she'd be quick to advertise it and would not have choked on her cookie crumbs.

Cartoon — Too bad the First Nations version of the Republicanus/Teabagger party wasn't at Plymouth Rock to greet them with deportation orders in hand.

  8. Sorry folks I am changing the subject from something pretty & nice to something really UGLY! Yep the Iraq war PT11.Well there are reputed to be 2billion Islams around the World;so how about train & arm 20,000 of them,so they can defend "ISLAM" against those murders & gangsters who are trashing the name of their religion! & therefore ALLAH! I reckon if there are not 20,000 young Islams willing to defend their religion & ALLAH,then why should anybody else try to do it??

    • Archie, there is no such thing as an Islam.  A follower of Islam ia called a Muslim.  Perhaps you might want to kearn more about the subject. Your statement seems sophistic to me..
