I’m writing for tomorrow, day 128.  I’ve been behind the curve all day, and news subjects that I have covered fairly thoroughly continue to dominate the news.  Safeway delivered groceries, and I unpacked and stowed them all.  It’s now evening and this is tomorrow’s only article.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:03 (average 4:14).  To do it. click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube: POLICE BODY-CAMS Reduce Force Complaints Enormously – Chris Hayes

In my opinion, all police should be required to wear body cams and use pistols that can not be fired by anyone other than the owner. If we have the money to provide police with military hardware, we have the money for this instead.

From Think Progress: Last January, a Washington attorney named David Rivkin co-authored an article in Politico Magazine that laid out a legal theory that Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) now plans to use to sue President Obama because the president is not implementing Obamacare fast enough. Yet, as ThinkProgress laid out shortly after Boehner announced that he would file the lawsuit, Rivkin’s legal theory rests upon “a glaring misrepresentation of a recent Supreme Court decision that undermines much of the basis for this lawsuit.

Nevertheless, Boehner decided to hire Rivkin to represent the GOP-led House in its suit against the president. Rivkin’s price? $500 an hour, all charged to the American taxpayer.

If taxpayers have to fund this travesty, we should have the privilege of countersuing Agent Orange personally for reimbursement of those costs and the costs of defending against his frivolous suit.

From YouTube: Rachel Maddow – Immigration fears prominent in GOP primary

If I were to put a title on this Republican primary, I’d call it Sphincterama in Brewerstan.

  1. 2:42 It looks just the way I remember it from 1969.

  2. YouTube ~ It's too much accountability for the bad cops. The good ones won't object. This would be money better spent than on military hardware.

ThinkProgress ~ Fat chance of recouping any monies for Agnt Orange. All his money is spent on booze. Hence the bad decisions he makes.

    YouTube ~ "Paranoia strikes deep…"

Cartoon ~ The beginning of the end?

  3. 5:48  Are those palm trees all right?  They look a little poorly to me.

YouTube – I would think good officers would jump at this idea.  Like having a paper trail, it protects you if you are doing right.  Plus, as one of the two ponted out, these days, someone is going to film you anyway.  Wouldn't you rather have a film record of your side than to have to counter with just words?  I agree money well spent, and might even pay for itself.

Think Progress – You know, there are some truly fine lawyers around, but this one make me think of the joke about the lawyer who dropped dead at 37 and came to the Pearly Gates claiming he was too young to die like that.  Saint Peter had all the record keepers double check, and eventually told him, "No, there's no mistake.  Based on your billable hours, you're 82."

YouTube too – I believe the law – a law passed while Bush was President and signed into law by President Bush – states that when anyone arrives at our borders claimimg refugee status, the are entitled to a speedy hearing to determine whether that status is warranted.  ONLY after the hearing, and ONLY if the hearing goes against them, can they be considered illegal.  Refugee children who have not had a hearing are, by law, NOT illegal.  Can't these so-called law-abiding paranoids get that into what they call their brains?

Cartoon – the beginning of the end indeed.

  4. Puzzle — 2:53  I was weighted down by all the SPF 60 sun screen!

YouTube — I think back to 1975 when an RCMP constable friend of mine, Roman, felt endangered by a pack of dogs that were sniffing around a bitch in heat.  This was in a small community with one constable and the closest backup was a minimum of 20 km away at 3 am.  He shot one of the dogs and the rest scattered.  I believed his explanation but many did not, especially the owners of the dogs involved.  The nastiness went on for months.  This was a good and experienced constable, not some rookie.  I can't help but wonder if a body cam would have save him and others a lot of grief.  If a person is doing something wrong, a body cam can help sort out what really happened.  In the video, the young suspect might have claimed that the officer smashed his head on the pavement, but the video clearly shows he did not.  As you say TC,  " If we have the money to provide police with military hardware, we have the money for this instead."

Think Progress — Everytime I think of that frivolous law suit, I wish I could get Boehner by the short and curlies and swing him around and around until he yells "Momma"!  What a colossal waste of time and money.  The Republicanus/Teabaggers have already waste money on DOMA, a government shutdown, Obamacare repeals that fell flat as a pancake, and salaries etc for GOP Congress Critters that did absolutely nothing!  So much for fiscal conservatives!

YouTube — My oh my!  If voters in Arizona can't see through these 3 Republicanus/Teabaggers, they need a good old healing with some spittle and dirt!  Thanks for the laugh!

Cartoon — We will ever rue that day!

BTW, I heard on the news that Smith and Wesson is having a bad profits year.  Sales of guns have leveled off, if not dropped since the gun buying frenzy following Sandy Hook. Also heard that another US gun manufacturer is suffering losses too from sluggish sales. Want to bet that the NRA comes forward to manufacture a need and whip the gun crazies into flights of fancy?  :sigh:

  5. Youtube:  I think the body cams should be mandatory.  It protects the policeman who is doing his job right as well as the person who is being arrested.  I heard on the news yesterday that two small towns in central Ky now have these and the videos are kept permanently. Good for them!

Think Progress:  I agree, TC, Boehner should be sued for his utter lack of brains.

Rachel Maddow:  Loved this, watching the idiot with no where to run from his idiocy.

Cartoon: When it comes to Dingbat Barbie and Drill Baby Drill girl, I think we will never be safe. She will always come out of the woodwork. Thanks, John McCain!
