From Daily Kos: …Colt Thriemer and Thomas J Brown got into a fist fight at a Walmart Parking Lot. There were several witnesses who say that the victim, Thomas Brown, was walking away afterwards to his car when Colt Thriemer shot Thomas Brown after retrieving a handgun. Mr. Brown was shot 10 times at fairly close range both in the back while he was walking away and then when he turned towards Mr. Thriemer after being shot, apparently pleading him to stop. Mr. Thriemer then fled the scene.
When he was apprehended, he did what all murderers do now in Florida: claim he was in "fear for his life". The prosecutor agreed.
The prosecutor’s statement summed up all that is fucking wrong with Stand Your Ground:
"The Stand Your Ground Statue makes no exception to the immunity because Brown may have been walking away from Thriemer when deadly force was used."
That’s because the f_ing law was made by f_ing imbeciles. [emphasis original]

Ecstasy – Must have been played in Denver. Colorado's Front Range has been getting so much rain this year that the only green left in California is from envy. And, of course, money for the few.
Daily Kos – Stand Your Ground is an ALEC boilerplate law. I would personally call the makers self-centered and malicious rather than imbecilic. It's not the prosecutor, it's the law that is the problem – although selective enforcement will tarnish any law; and although any sane person might question Mr. Thriemer's motives when he fled, the law is the law.
Alternet – I'm short of time today so I apologize in advance if I miss something. But if Russia is blocking imports, wouldn't the sanctioning nations have a surplus, if anything? I suppose we can help them eat it.

Late and off topic, but when I saw it, TC, I thought of you and your therapist, and thought you would appreciate it. My blogger friend in Oz and his wife were driving to an event when they passed a medical office with a sign that said, "Manipulative Physiotherapist." They both cracked up laughing, imagining the conversation:
Patient – "Well, I feel better now, can I stop coming?"
Manipulative physiotherapist – "Oh yes, I'm sure you feel better. Yeah, no worries, stop coming. I'll find another patient to fill the gap. You go off and enjoy yourself. Knock yourself out. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine."

Alternet: Putin is definitely a Republican. He will nothave to do without anything, of course, while his fellow countrymen suffer food shortages. Paying farmers NOT to grow food is one of the dumbest things our government has ever done.
Crooksand Liars: I could not watch all the video, Fox is making capital of another tragedy, what else is new? I heard yesterday that Murdoch has withdrawn his attempt to buy the company that owns CNN and so many other popular stations. I am really glad.

When did the prosecutor's opinion that Brown COULD have been, not was, walking away to get a gun become evidence of intent. Brown was walking away, not running away to his car which I am sure would not have been the case had he been going for a gun. Likewise, 10 bullets, some in the back? Just a little over kill don't you think? In my mind, this is 2nd degree murder, not SYG. And yet, Marissa Alexander is to stand trial again for firing a warning shot to ward aff her abusive spouse and this time the prosecutor is going after a 60 year sentence. Currently she is serving 20 years for firing the warning shot to ward off her abusive spouse. She didn't hit anyone etc. What's the difference . . . she is black. I don't know Thiemer's race, but my guess he is white. And now SYG decisions are not available to the public.
