I’m writing for tomorrow, day 101.  Store to door just delivered groceries and I have finished putting them away.  I’m tired, but not to tired to write.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:43 (average 4:45).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: Check out this progress report on world peace. The news is not all good, but, still, there’s a silver lining.

It’s hard to fond a more worthy investment than peace. Here’s that link.

From Daily Kos: Far-right groups said that the American government securing necessary materials for American companies to manufacture is "interference with the free market." Seriously, are they funded by China?

Last week one more example of Republican obstruction occurred – blockage of an important "Make It In America" bill – and one more time not a single corporate media outlet reported it.

The House Republican leadership last Tuesday blocked a bill to secure for American companies critical minerals used in the production of energy-efficient products, renewable energy systems, electronics and other technologies. The result is companies – and the Defense Department – continue to be forced to turn to China to make or obtain critical electronics components.

To understand the full extent of why Republicans have committed sedition here, you need to click through and read the while article. Please do. It’s important!

From YouTube: Rachel Maddow: The Kids Are Not From Mexico!

This may help explain why some people vote Republican. They are stupid.

  1. "This may help explain why some people vote Republican. They are stupid."  Amen to that TC – but they are also very, VERY greedy!  (And the rest of the Seven Deadly Sins!).

The Upworthy clip was fascinating and horrifying – 85% of terrorist acts take place in those eleven warring countries – and really horrifying 'murder rate 12 x in those countries' (or words to that effect).  God help them all!

Daily Kos (thank God for the Daily Kos and other other places on the net – which is no doubt why the Right are trying to shut down internet access) – are the aforementioned stupid Republican voters aware of what is being done in their name – or are they just too flipping stupid to care?!  Words fail me – how do the GOP congressmen get away with it, snake oil salesmen would be ashamed to try these tricks – and so often!

  2. 3:15 Not fast enough to beat that sneaky puddy-tat.

  3. Upworthy ~ The major world powrs have to stop supplying weapons to everyone. Jon Stewart had an excellent piece on that Monday night. The US is a major contributor to war because it is so profitable.

Daily Kos ~ So now China controls our TeapublicanT Congress? This is very scary.

YouTube ~ Yes people are stupid!

Cartoon ~ Wage War. It's more profitable.

  4. 6:21  All that yellow looks alike

Upworthy – I would need a transcript for this one.  I could hear it, and make out some of it, even most of it, but there was enough I couldn't make out that I missed a lot.  The graphics went by so fast I missed practically all the substance presented graphically (hint: a list of infrastructure elements is actually more important than a picture of a vase).

Daily Kos – Yeah.  Good luck with sharing the information on this one.  It requires more than a soundbyte.  I agree with the commenter on site who said Democrats should mediablitz, but they need to do it just before – maybe as much as a week before – early voting starts (which I assume would vary from state to state) and keep it up until Election Day.  Stressing the rule change needed to kill it wouldn't hurt either.

YouTube – Yes, the 1% are motivated by greed.  The people who protest kids from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador at the Mexican Embassy are mor motivated by hate and fear.  Since both hate and fear are blinding, this makes them stupid.

    Cartoon – Facepalm.  Just, facepalm.

Lona on Care2 comments she doubts the science will help the people in those 12-13 countries very much.  And that reminds jme of a poem my Australian blogger friend recently published.
    http://wellthisiswhatithink.com/2014/07/31/kindergarnered/

    KINDERGARNERED

As without warning her body blew apart into something resembling cheap dog food
The little girl with the grey eyes pondered how unreasonable it was
that Hamas argues for the removal of Israel and digs tunnels underneath it
and that Israel pens in the Palestinians and builds a wall.
As she redecorated the lime-washed wall in her parents' yard
she grumbled to herself that the 1967 borders were probably unrealistic now
what with the settlement building and so on, I mean
people have got to live somewhere she mused,
so maybe Islamic jihad should give up on them and that whole
East Jerusalem thing and Israel could free up the border crossings.
As the only still-identifiable part of her three year old self,
Her left arm neatly severed at the shoulder,
wheeled over the wall and into the dusty street
she considered that at least the latest UN proposal seemed positive
and that the peace groups were now protesting on both sides of the wall
so it looked like everyone might get a little something of what they wanted
    out of the situation.
Which was worth dying for.  Or not.
She just wasn't entirely sure on that last bit.

    • Late breaking:  Boehner pulled even the $ 659M version of the bill that Rachel mentions, knowing it couldn't pass.

  5. Care 2 is about to shut down so I don't have time to watch the videos.  Switching over to politics plus.

  6. Upworthy:  So, basically, what he is saying is that if we spent the money to help improve the economies and education systems in these countries there would be peace.  I wish Putin and the nut in Syria knew this.

Daily Kos:  I clicked through and shared on Facebook.  Isn't the Heritage Foundation another of the Koch bros. clubs?  If so, then that explains why the Republicans defeated the bill.

Youtube:  I agree with your assessment, TC.  One would have to be stupid or vicious to vote Republican.

Cartoon:  I am sure Cheney and Palin would agree with this.

  7. Puzzle — 3:23  I'm tired.  My get up and go got up and went, my jigsaw abilities with it.

Upworthy — Like usual, I can't hear it but I did go to the Vision of Humanity site.  You can move the year bar on the display and check out standings going back to 2010 I think.  I was very happy to see that Canada was solidly on the "green" end of things.  I have always been very proud of our peacekeeper image, and yes, our politeness too!  But with Harper, that is changing, and NOT for the better.  If I remember correctly, Iceland was in 1st place for those years so kudos to Iceland.  Some countries have moved further down the peace index which is so sad because it is he innocents that pay the price.

Daily Kos — Stupid is as stupid does!  The United States of China brought to you by the Republicanus/Teabaggers and Corporate America.  Now if two or more companies conspired to fix prices or create a monoply, I believe there would be anti-trust law suits right, left and centre.  This time it is part of the US government contributing to the situation.  As I said, stupid is as stupid does!

Youtube — Again I can't hear it (TC, where are my cookies etc? I can't find them.) But from the visuals, wow! Another stupid is as stupid does.  If I heard correctly, Boehner pulled the bill because he didn't think it would pass.  Or am I mixing up 2 different things?

Cartoon — Isn't that what Cheney and his neocons are shouting!  They make more $$$s from war.

Speaking of crazy, the US continues to provide Israel with munitions etc from its right hand while it "covertly" chastises Israel for bombing schools etc.  Talk about "do as I say, not as I do"!

    • Never mind.  I finally found my cookies etc so I got rid of them and now I can hear Lawrence, Rachel and Chris!  Thanks TC

      • Then now you know they were next to thwe milk.  Serously, there is a free utility called CCleaner.  Get it.  Use it at least daily.

  8. Thanks all.  I'm in a hurry, as I have Physical Therapy today.
