I’m writing for tomorrow, day 98.  I had planned to get up early this morning to do the evil task, but I must be more tired that I thought.  I found myself completely unable to move my butt, so I sat on it instead.  The evil task still awaits.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:07 (average 5:00).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: The apparent collapse of the veteran’s aid in conference committee seems to underline just how uninterested the House continues to be in actually governing. We’ve got Rep. Jeff Miller managing reconciliation from the House side, and he’s let his Senate counterpart, Sen. Bernie Sanders, know that the House will be dictating the reconciliation terms.

The most peeved, however, was Sanders. He hastily organized a press conference with fellow Senate Democrats in which he rapped Miller for demanding a vote on a proposal that, according to an aide, did not adhere to the outlines of earlier discussions.

“You cannot talk about negotiating, you cannot talk about a conference committee, when somebody is asking you to join you … for a formal vote on ‘this’ proposal,” said Sanders.

Well no, having an unofficial "conference committee" meeting consisting entirely of House members and then telling the Senate that their new plan is what you’ll be having a vote on is not quite how the process usually goes, but it certainly underscores the House’s insistence that it’s either their way or the (badly underfunded) highway.

Did anyone expect anything more than sabotage of our Vets from the Republican Reich? Click through for more.

From AlterNet: Neil deGrasse Tyson, the astrophysicist who hosts the hit show "Cosmos," was a guest on Bill Maher’s "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO Friday night, and Tyson received standing ovation. Rare for a scientist, Maher joked.

Thinking by voters is forbidden in GOPerville.

From Crooks and Liars: The yappers over at Faux "news" are very upset that the Democrats have teachers knocking on doors for the midterm elections because they might not be able to paint them as the stereotypical union thug as they’re used to getting away with week after week on their network. How terrible it is that people might look at them as actual human beings and not someone to kick to the curb and actually listen to what they have to say.

Bulls & Bears host Brenda Butter started things off with regular John Layfield, who went right after the teachers for heaven forbid, exercising their right to participate in politics, pretended that this is somehow going to take away from them having time to do their jobs, and he laid all of the problems with our educational system on the backs of the teachers’ unions.

Barf Bag Alert!

I’ll leave it to the teachers among you to explain just how full of crap this propaganda for the Republican Reichsministry of propaganda is.

  1. 4:24 I got lost in a sea of red umbrellas and couldn't find my spot on the beach.

    • 3:53  I thought those were traffic cones and I weaved in and out of them.

    • 3:33  I am not a beach bunny (too much sun and sand) and I don't much care for red.  Obviously not a place I'm going!  I'll bet that beach reminds a certain puddy tat of a cat box at home.

  2. Daily Kos ~ All the TeapublicantS are saying "Do you mean to imply that we should take care of those we send into war?" No, you jerk-offs! Just let them all die. Cannon fodder indeed.

Alternet ~ Our insignificance really troubles "them".

Crooks & Liars ~ Knocking on doors instead of teaching children to be sheople? How dare they!

    Cartoon ~ YIKES!!!

  3. Cartoon: A SHOCK to my visual cortex – EEK!…

  4. 5:14  I've never been to a beach where chaises longues and umbrellas were supplied.

Daily Kos – Another national treasure which – whom – the Republicans disrespect and abuse.  They are trying to frack our parks.  I'll bet if they could figure out a way to frack Bernie he would be next.

Alternet – I will just repeat what I already said on Care2:  "I thought that this was obvious and that Neil was probably smart enough to have figured it out without Maher telling him. And maybe he has and is just too nice and/or tactful to admit it publicly. I see it all the time. I have a black friend who is bright, has a college degree, and is a great worker, who has applied for promotion and is well qualified but her supervisor won't release her from her entry level job. I think I may resent it more than she does."

Crooks and Liars – I am not a teacher but I try to stand up for them.  I look forward to reading soments from the teachers here.  I would love to hear what Taylor Maki would say also.

Cartoon – Don't you mean "nightmare"?

  5. Lovely AlterNet clip – thanks TC.  Mind you I wish I saw just a minute or so more as Neil deGrasse Tyson was saying about all the atoms across the Universe being an almost spiritual revelation of modern astrophysics – as I agree utterly!  And yes, I am certain that the Repugs hate him because he is black, sooo much smarter than they are and won't toe the line as they think he should!

Crooks and Liars – well done to the teachers for knocking on doors to get their message across.

Sorry TC – my health is too fragile for me to listen to clips when you warn us of a barfbag alert, I need to get a lot better yet!

Alamring cartoon – really scary and revolting in so many ways!

  6. Alarming. ! NOT REALLY! Hilarious ,YES! bring on the debates and please add Rick Perry!.  OOPS!

  7. Daily Kos:  The republicans have blocked every effort to help Veterans. I can't imagine why any veteran would vote for them.

Alternet:  I think Bill is right.  They don't like Tyson because he is smarter than most of them.

Crooks and Liars:  They know the teachers are not going to vote the way Faux news tells them they should so they MUST attack them.

Cartoon:  Does anyone seriously believe these two could be elected on the same platform?  I realy, really, really hope not.

  8. I'd love … L-O-V-E, LOVE! … if Palin & Bachmann (in either order) headed the Repubican ticket in 2016.

It'd be a clean Democratic sweep!

  9. Puzzle — 3:33  I am not a beach bunny (too much sun and sand) and I don't much care for red. Obviously not a place I'm going!  I'll bet that beach reminds a certain puddy tat of a cat box at home.

Daily Kos — "…Rep. Jeff Miller managing reconciliation from the House side, and he’s let his Senate counterpart, Sen. Bernie Sanders, know that the House will be dictating the reconciliation terms."

So this is how negotiation is done on something that should never even be negotiated!  I sure hope that vets and the military remember how much they are valued (NOT!) by the Republicanus/Teabaggers when it comes to 04 November 2014!

    Alternet — Maher :

"I think they don’t like you because you’re a scientist, and a black one, and you’re smarter than they are."

And the following proves Neil deGrasse Tyson IS smarter than any and all Republicanus/Teabaggers.  He explains a complicated science phenomena in understandable terms:

"Sometimes it burps up plasma. Sometimes they head towards earth. When they collide with the earth’s atmosphere, it sets it aglow. Everytime you see the northern lights, we have just been slammed by a plasma pie."

Yup!  Definitely smarter and very likeable!

Crooks and Liars — What a load of BS!!!  Teachers have the same rights as anyone else.  They have freedom of speech, from of association . . . etc.  If they are out knocking on doors for Democrats, maybe it is because the Republicanus/Teabaggers don't like people being reminded that it is Republicanus/Teabaggers that are slashing school funding in the public system and putting more funding in charter schools etc.  And besides, they are their own time!  Oh and to the comment that teachers should be preparing for the coming year's instruction, the middle finger salute to you!

Cartoon — Well a woman president would be great!  These are idiots, not women.  These two idiots need not apply.  They will just turn the voters off.  TC, you should have put in a supersized three barf bag alert on this cartoon!

  10. Thanks all.  Nameless got it.  Laundry done.  Me too.  Hugs!

    • You and Nameless ahve a lot more faith in voters than I have.  I would be terrified that ticket would make Dems and Progressives so overconfident they wouldn't think they even needed to vote, and then it would win.
