I’m writing for tomorrow.  Physical Therapy was grueling, especially on top of walking a mile and a half on the way to and from, including a side trip to the bank.  I think it will take at least a day to get over the pain.  This will be tomorrow’s only article.  We’ll have to see about Saturday, because, If I can, early tomorrow morning I’ll be taking on the most dreaded of all my chores.  Day 39.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:43 (average5:10).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: "Your dead kids don’t trump my Constitutional rights"

Conservative sensitivity at its finest, courtesy of Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher [Republican delinked].  Speaking in a time of great tragedy, Wurzelbacher’s only response to a grieving father discussing his son’s right to live is that the be all and end all is the right of Americans to be armed to the teeth without any regulation.

There is a time, a place and a manner for such discussions.  He could easily wait several days.  He could just as easily frame his ideas in less crass terms.  He could choose to use words that will not rub salt in open wounds.  He decided not to engage in such behavior, which, unfortunately, is nothing new for him.

Joe is not a plumber. Joe is not even a Joe. He IS a Republican. Need I say more?

From The New Yorker: President Obama raised eyebrows with his West Point commencement address Wednesday by offering a defense of his controversial foreign-policy doctrine of not invading countries for no reason.

Conservative critics were taken aback by Obama’s speech, which was riddled with incendiary remarks about only using military force for a clearly identified and rational purpose.

Obama did not shy away from employing polarizing rhetoric, often using words such as “responsible” and “sensible” to underscore his message.

Harland Dorrinson, a fellow at the conservative think tank the Center for Global Intervention, said that he was “stunned” to see Obama “defend his failure to engage the United States in impulsive and random military adventures.”

LOL Andy!! In a word, spot-on!

From NY Times: President Obama will use his executive authority to cut carbon emissions from the nation’s coal-fired power plants by up to 20 percent, according to people familiar with his plans, and will force industry to pay for the pollution it creates through cap-and-trade programs across the country.

Mr. Obama will unveil his plans in a new regulation, written by the Environmental Protection Agency, at the White House on Monday. It would be the strongest action ever taken by an American president to tackle climate change and could become one of the defining elements of Mr. Obama’s legacy.

Kudos. I’d hate to be the one to have to wash the stains from the Koch Boys’ underwear over this one.

  1. Awwww – poor TomCat!!!  How on earth did you manage to walk so far with all your health issues – mind over matter it seems (I need any hints you can spare!)…

    Andy – got me again!

Can I ask a question – when Americans say that someone's a 'real piece of work' – is the last word a substitute for another word, for example one of four letters and beginning with 's'?  It does sound relevant to Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher – what a horrible human being!

NY Times – please God this happens, and soon!

Thanks TC – hope you recover fully from your extreme exertions!

    • "piece of work" – well, sort of – but anyone can be a POS.  To be a piece of work one must be a POS who is outstanding .  Complicated, difficult, eccentric, to quote Merriam Webster (yes, you sent me to look it up.)  Originally from Hamlet, it was first used in print ironically (as an insult) in 1928 and has been gaining steam to meet the need.

    • Well, Pat, I put one foot in front of the other and ignore the pain.  My walker has a seat, and I takle frequent breaks to rest.  Life it too short to allow pain to win.

  2. PS tried the puzzle as my cursor seemed to be mostly behaving itself and got it done in 4.15.

  3. Did you see the study that shows Cat Lovers are smarter than Dog Lovers?  (They got THAT right!)

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/05/29/1302966/-Controversial-study-find-cat-lovers-are-smarter-than-dog-lovers

OK – the link actually goes to a story ABOUT the study … but the GIF of the little kitten catching the mouse on that tablet game is SO CUTE, it's worth the visit!

    • In many ways, that is spot on.  When I consider myself, very much a cat person (hell, I have 3 of them who run my life!), I am an introvert, prefer staying home reading books, am open minded, tend to be a non conformist but I do follow the rules, well at least I follow the rules until they need to be broken.  Key is knowing what rules to break and when to break them.

And Nameless, you are so spot on about that kitten catching the mouse . . . so very cute!  The video at the end, cats massaging their dogs, just goes to show that cats know how to control their dogs!

Thank you Nameless for this treat!

    • I am a cat lover, an almost-off-the-scale introvert, prefer staying home not just reading books, and before I follow rules I want to know who made the rule (and who died and made thejm God).  But, thogh I consider myself intelligent, I am not sure about a blanket statement for cat lovers.  I am, however, confident that cat lovers in general have more self esteem than dog lovers.  We need to, because the cats sure ain't going to boost it for us.

    • Thanks for the kitty link.  The last pic looked like those kittens were looking for a place to nurse.  Of course I agree that cat lovers are more intelligent!  🙂

    • I'm an extrovert cat.  Cat lovers are smarter than dawg lovers, because cats are smarter than dawgs.  In the video those dawgs are so stupid that they allow themselves to be used as our scratching posts.    In that respect, dawgs are very much like people who vite Republican. 😈

  4. 4:29  For me, especially lately, that's amazing.  It did seem to go smoothly.

Daily Kos – I assume he's already had a parade.

New Yorker – Boy, isn't that the truth, right down to the rewritten Republican history.  Not wanting to gender-bash, espcially when it's off topic, but the word "respect," at least for me, is a bit of a dog-whistle for "manly" (or, as I woul put it, testosterone poisoning).

NY Times – I will wait until I see it.

Cartoon – Torquemada, eh?  I know him – "demanding" is throwing roses at it.  Of course he's a Republican.  So sorry.  Hang in.

  5. Puzzle — 2:57  I guess I really am a cat person who knows how to control a dog!

Daily Kos — What an asswipe, this Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher, a truly red Republicanus/Teabagger!  He's not "red" from being part of the GOP.  He's "red" because of the blood on his hands courtesy of such outrageous actions!

"…the right of Americans to be armed to the teeth without any regulation."

With beliefs like this, he needs his plumbing checked.  The sewer backup is affecting his heart and brain, miniscule as they are!  He needs to learn that his rights cease where the rights of other start.  God help the US if brain-dead idiots like him take over the government.

The New Yorker — Andy's on the mark again!  Conservatives were probably doing hand springs, just wanting to throttle him for not going to war just because . . .

NY Times — Good on Obama.  I was reading a piece on the CBC where it was suggested by Archbishop Desmond Tutu that the Keystone XL pipeline could increase Canada's carbon emissions by 30 per cent. I hope that "his executive authority to cut carbon emissions from the nation’s coal-fired power plants by up to 20 percent" also extends to not approving the Keystone XL pipeline.  If that happens, I'd REALLY not want to be the one to have to wash the stains ffrom the Koch brothers shorts!

Cartoon — So is this what it means to getting older?  I have osteoarthritis in my right knee which caused a Baker's cyst that ruptured 2 weeks ago.  Now it is physio for my lower back, my neck, and as of today my knee.  I want a new body!!!  (sigh!!)

    • I'm so sorry.  I want an new body too.  My L5 has shifted forward on my secum.  When I stand properly I feel like I'm going to fall on my face, so I need to learn to stand all over again,

  6. DAILY KOS: What would Joe “The Plumber” Wurzelbacher say if the kids murdered had been his own two kids…

  7. TC, are you doing laundry again?

Daily Kos:  I am not sure Joe is even human.

The New Yorker:  How dare the Prez use words about responsibility? His predecessor never did!

NY Times:  I know this needs to be done to save our planet, but it is going to hit this community hard.  Coal jobs are the  main source of employment other than the medical industry and Wal Mart.

Cartoon:  All therapists are his descendants too.

    • You win, Edie. 🙂

That's why we need to invest in training coal miners to do better jobs.  Republicans claim their objections are about saving jobs, but they're really avout keeping profit.

      • That is toooo good. I am going to steal it, dog lovers, beware, your dogs are Republicans!

      • The problem with training them for better jobs is that there are NO better jobs in this area.  The coal companies have made sure that other industries don;t come here and mess with their labor force.  100 years of our government being owned by the coal companies doesn't help much, either.

  8. TC, are you doing laundry tomorrow?

Daily Kos:  I am not even sure Joe is human.

The New Yorker:  Love Andy.  How dare the Prez use the words about responsibility?  His predecessor never used them!

Ny Times:  I know this needs to be done to save the planet, but it is going to wreak havoc on jobs in this areas.  Coal jobs, the medical field and Wal Mart are about it here.

Cartoon:  All physical therapists are descended from Torquemada!

  9. Sorry for duplicate comments, I goofed.

  10. RepubliCONs think dead kids are the way to Guarantee our Constitutional Rights – from newborns to Veterans under the age of 21…it is a Sacrifice THEY'RE willing to make. Just not pre-borns, THEY have a right to Life that trumps everything, even if their foolish mothers work for Monsanto or Big Business of some sort – the Corporation is Never at fault, only the mother!! So if that mother gets shot by some crazy idiot, she must've been asking for it.

  11. 4:43 – Puzzle

  12. Mr. Obama will unveil his plans in a new regulation, written by the Environmental Protection Agency, at the White House on Monday.

Republicans and Tea-Bags won't like this… Oh wait, they don't like anything President Obama does… 😆
