I’m writing for tomorrow on a busy day.  I prepared and gave my grocery order to Store to Door and spent several hours researching the WYSIWYG comment editor problem.  Finding a fix for that is like finding liberal Republicans in office,  Tomorrow is grocery delivery day.  Day 37.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:16 (average 4:49).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: As someone who is not American, I first heard about "purity balls" (eesh, that name) for the first time in 2014. It shocked me that fathers and daughters attend these dances to pledge her "purity" and virginity until she is married, giving her little choice or education on, you know, the importance of her own personal choices.

Then I saw this trailer for the documentary "Daddy I Do," which highlights the bigger issue: the serious lack of sexual education in America. Watch filmmaker Cassie Jaye explore the issue in the video below.

The video does an excellent job of exposing the devious way Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians are violating the establishment clause in the 1st Amendment and the way they seek to make women chattel: proferty first of the father and then of the husband.

From Daily Kos: NextGen Climate Action—the Super PAC founded by Tom Steyer, the former California hedge fund chief who seeks to counter the Koch brothers’ climate-change propaganda machine with money from his own fortune—produced this ad calling them out for a verbal duel.

LOL! Buk-buk-buk-buk-Koch-a-doodle-DO!!!

From Alternet: That Elliot Rodger, the now dead suspect in the UC Santa Barbara shootings, was deeply misogynistic has now been well reported. Less known is that the alleged mass murderer engaged in other kinds of hate-mongering, posting racist messages on PuaHate.com, the online forum primarily known for its fomenting of hatred for women.

According to Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch blog, Rodger ranted on the site against interracial dating, black, Asian and Indian men.

Six months before his deadly shooting spree, Rodger posted a message entitled: “Saw a black guy sitting with 4 white girls.” He proceeded to express his rage about the fact that white women would consort with men of color.

Click through for more GOP Hate. That explains his belief that violence in support of hate is justified. He listened to and followed the principles set forth by Republican politicians, pundits, and media.

  1. 4:21  Always happy to break average.

Upworthy (and Alternet) – The only difference between this and Sha'ria law is that we slut shame instead of stoning.  Oh, and we don't do female genital mutilation.  Yet.  TC is right that it is a church-state issue, but it is also an Elliot Rodger issue.  Granted that he was sufficiently obviously mentally ill for his family to be worried about him, what did he do but exaggerate the sense of entitlement with which all boys are brought up?  If you accomplish something, someone will give you a princess.  He may have been insane, but his insanity was in taking a societal principle to absurdity, not in rejecting it.  If his father (and mother) had tried to instruct him the was Louis C K did in the clip you posted recently, it probably would not have gotten through.  Today's Upworthy video is quite rightly concerned about the effect of the culture on girls.  But its effect on boys is differently but equally toxic.

Daily Kos – I read the double talk statement they issued too.  They wll be complaining we took them out of context, or misinterpreted, or some dam thing.  I don't know whether if they sue for slander or libel it would be a bad thing or if it could work to our advantage.

Cartoon – A wonderful group.  In the forefront of those of us trying to save Meriam from being flogged and hanged.  Speaking of honor killings, you all know she was turned in by her own family, right?  A brother I believe, who thinks that because her father was a Muslim her Christian upbringing doesn't matter.

  2. Upworthy ~ Am I teh only one who finds the Purity Ball with Daddy a bit creepy? Abstinence if fine and the only 100% effective means of birth control but, not all people have the will nor the desire to be totally abstinent. Sex education is vital if unwanted pregnancy is to be curtailed. This is really important since the same people advocating this do not believe in abortion.

Daily Kos ~ Love it! Can't wait till the next one comes out. They are supposed to keep them coming.

Alternet ~ He was a misogynist who couldn't handle rejection. The really sad part is his parents sought help for him. He had been seeing someone for his problems since he was 7 years old. Whoever this person was, he'she was not very effective.

Cartoon ~ They have done and continue to do a world of good. Happy Anniversary, Amnesty International.

    • I agree with most of what was said about the Purity Ball sickness. Where are the purity balls for mommies and sons. Some of these sons need a swift kick in the….. And where are the purity balls for daddies and sons? Get real this is just sick…

  3. Puzzle — 3:26  I stopped to enjoy a relaxing lie-about in the cool waters.

Upworthy — Unfortunately, the clip is not available for viewing in Canada, either here or on YouTube. I did however listen to a Q&A with the film maker.

"The video does an excellent job of exposing the devious way Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians are violating the establishment clause in the 1st Amendment and the way they seek to make women chattel: property first of the father and then of the husband."

The West is quick to decry child brides, arranged marriages, virginity tests etc in other cultures, but it looks like the same kind of thing is happening in the Bible belt.  It is just wrapped differently.

Daily Kos — The one chick stuck his head briefly under his brother's butt, then promptly removed it.  I guess he was afraid he'd get shit upon.  Sounds like a Kochroache!

    Alternet — I almost posted this to Care2 yesterday.  Glad I didn't.

Elliot Rodger was one very sick dude, just the kind that would appeal to the gun loving, woman hating bigots of the Republicanus/Teabaggers.

Cartoon — I have many friends involved in AI Canada.  It is needed more than ever in this wackie world we live in.  One thing that is amusing to me, and always has me thinking about AI, is the patching of my street.  Just up from my house, the patching of the roadway looks just like the AI candle of hope.  It really is quite remarkable.  I rue the day when the pavement has to be torn up for something.

  4. Upworthy:  Where is the video for the  sons promising Mom to be abstinate?  This is ludicrous.

Daily Kos:  Love it, of course they are too chicken to debate!  They would be exposed for who thery are.,

Alternet and Hatewatch:  these are disgusting and pitiful examples of the racism and ignorance that abounds in our country today.

Cartoon:  I belong to Amnesty International, they do great work.  Happy Birthday to them.

  5. Republicans do not consider men chattel… unless they aren't white.

  6. "purity balls" ?

    Living in the caves?
