I’m writing for tomorrow, before leaving for my Urologist appointment.  Because the temperature forecast for today is an unexpected 88°, I know I’ll be in no shape to do anything when I get back.  Day 10.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:57 (average 5:31).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: Am I crazy in thinking this is so obviously wrong? I really struggle to think how a person at any stage of this process is OK with sending a child to prison with adults.

This isn’t just crazy. It’s InsaniTEA.

From The New Yorker: The Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling offered a “total and remorseful” apology for his racist comments today, telling reporters, “Once I saw that Donald Trump was defending me, I knew I had done something horribly wrong.”

Sterling acknowledged that he had turned a blind eye to a mountain of criticism from basketball luminaries and national leaders, but said that seeing Trump defend him on Fox News on Monday had left him “shaken.”

Dang, Andy!!! Talk about a bad hair day!!

From Daily Kos: Eradicating Offensive Native Mascotry, a group of Native parents and their allies from across the country were alerted to Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin‘s daughter, Christina Fallin’s latest gaff when her band Pink Pony announced via Facebook "I heard Pink Piny [sic] was wearing full regalia tonight." Protestors led by Choctaw musician Samantha Crain staged a protest at the Norman Music Festival in Oklahoma and Native American’s reaction via social media was outraged as Fallin wore a Native American-style fringed shawl with the word "Sheep" on the back and performed a fake war dance while her boyfriend Steven Battles ridiculed the protesters and flipped them off from the stage.

There it is! Republican family values are learned in Republican families.

  1. Oh TC – that photo speaks volumes!

As for Upworthy – what is the matter with some people??!!  Argh!

Andy's satire was beautiful "“Once I saw that Donald Trump was defending me, I knew I had done something horribly wrong.” " – I roared with laughter! If only!

  2. 6:19  That's – um – quite a patina.  "Verdigris" seems inadequate to describe it.

Upworthy – I am not able to believe that there are over 100,000 Damiens in the United States.  But of course, the people who are running kids through the adult system are not targeting Damiens, they are targeting potential Democratic voters.  [In some states – mine is one – after completing all prison and parole, a felon (now an ex-felon) can get his/her voting rights restored.  But not in all states.]  And they are targeting populations that Republicans don't care about.  "(They should) die and decrease the surplus population."  If they commit suicide, they won't be mooching with food stamps.  Yes, InsaniTEA is the exact word for it.

New Yorker – Sometimes to make his point Andy has to attribute to a Republican something he would never do.  Sterling repudiating Trump is one of those things.  Of course it is still screamingly funny!

Daily Kos – I saw that and had no words.  I am still speechless.  Interestingly on Care2 on the same page as your Open Thread link (as I write this – of course they keep changing it as the day matures) there is a link to an article on a petition to get Indigenous People's Day officially recognized across the US.  Leaving out the middlemen, the link is http://www.thepetitionsite.com/813/330/026/get-indigenous-peoples-day-officially-recognized-nationwide/.  Not that it will solve everything or maybe even anything, but at lease it would be a little respect.

Cartoon – Well, have fun.  The last job I had they tested saliva instead of urine.  If one's mouth is at all dry one can practically choke on the stick.  Hope your day is painless.

  3. 3:50 I didn't ring any bells today.

  4. Upworthy ~ InsaniTea is the only word for it. These are mere children.

New Yorker ~ Funny, but not his best work.

Daily Kos ~ Her Fscebook page was blasted for this. They actually had to remove it as offensive. Now she keeps backpedalling and saying everyone took it wrong. Typical TeapublicanT (non)apology.

Cartoon ~ TC at the Urologist?

  5. Puzzle — 4:42  I'd say it was all Greek to me but in actual fact, it is Japanese!  The average is up to 9:12 so a lot of people are finding it difficult.

Upworthy — I am at a loss for words!  100,000 children in US prisons, some as young as 5 (if I heard correctly)? InsaniTea is right!  This is not a sign of a civil society!

The New Yorker — Andy is funny!  I think he nailed the pot calling the kettle black.  Sterling and Trump are birds of a feather and deserve eachother.

The Daily Kos — Republicanus/Teabagger family values indeed!

"Cherokee EONM member and blogger Jennie Stockle posted to Pink Pony's Facebook page, "Apathy towards the clear feelings of other people is cruelty. Her apathy based to Native culture is racist. No opaqueness in this issue. It is clear. We will not stand silent while she degrades honored and sacred symbols.""

I stand with First Nations.  This is racist and unfortunately so Republicanus/Teabagger!

Cartoon — That picture reminds me of my family in Toronto when I was there.  All, except me, spent a lot of time in the porcelain library with the stomach flu.  I got it too but only lost dinner.  I made my own that night so it could have been my sandwich making skills.  But did I ever sleep the entire day after.

  6. It reached 90° here today.  Too damn hot to sleep!!

  7. KOS: Obviously Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin is one of the worst governors in US
these days. I often wonder why there are so many bad governors… Oh wait, they, the bad governors, all belong to the gop/tp group. lol.

  8. Time 3:44 – that puzzle hurt my brain.

Our prisons are just one more in a growing list of things that must be addressed and addressed soon. Kentucky is beginning a plan to decrease the prison population for non-violent offenders. The problem is, when released with out a solid community based resource system for jobs, drug treatments, mental health issues, prescriptions, a home with a place to sleep and eat, we are just sentencing them to recidivism. I suggest people watch the Frontline on PBS.org/.

    Thanks Andy ~

All of these mascots need to be changed now, no more delays or excuses. This in not the first time this issue has been addressed, but it should be the last time. It was clear to everyone when Sterling made those comments just how intentionally racist they were; isn't it time to stop all racism?

    Thanks TC.
