Few campers are more unhappy these days than Mitch McConnell (R-KY), because he’s trailing in the polls to both his Bagger primary challenger and the next Senator from Kentucky, Alison Grimes (D).  In an attempt to save his job, he now claims he stood up for women in the investigation of Senator Bob Packwood (R-OR), when Packwood became Senator Pokewood.  The problem is that McConnell is engaging in Republicans’ 2nd favorite pastime, behind stealing elections.  Bought Bitch Mitch is lying.

0419BBMFacing his toughest reelection battle in years against a well-known and well-financed female opponent, Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) recently boasted that he led the Senate in ousting a GOP colleague accused of sexual harassment in 1995. But news reports from that time show that late in the investigation, McConnell tried to stall the probe against his fellow Republican, Sen. Bob Packwood (R-Ore.). He derided efforts by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) to hold public hearings on Packwood as "frolic and detour"—after the Senate ethics committee had substantiated nearly two-dozen claims of sexual harassment leveled against Packwood by female lobbyists and former staffers.

Talking about the Packwood scandal this past week, McConnell noted that he was chair of the Senate ethics committee when Packwood resigned. In a Tuesday interview with the Lexington Herald-Leader, McConnell said he had taken "the toughest possible position." The newspaper reported that McConnell had "offered himself as an example of how elected officials should handle situations when a member of their own party is accused of sexual harassment."

But the bulk of the ethics probe against Packwood took place when the committee was chaired by a Democrat. When Republicans regained a majority in the Senate after the 1994 elections and McConnell became chair of the committee, he transformed the Packwood investigation into a partisan mess… [emphasis added]

As an interesting side note, Packwood was actually quite progressive in his day, aside from the scandal that he brought on himself.  He was the very last Republican for whom I actually voted.

In any case, Bought Bitch Mitch may well lose his job.  For some strange reason, nobody seems to be crying.

  1. Nope – not crying at all.  More like cheering to see Mitch in trouble and on his way out.  About time.

  2. I do hope Alison Grimes wins!

  3. Thanks for the historical background on the Packwood incident and McConnell's involvement in it.

This is a "key" election, not only for the State of Kentucky and its people but for the power structure and make-up of Congress in the Senate. It is way past time to get the sexist, misogynist, obstructionist Sen. Mitch McConnell out of office and retire and put him out to pasture. By having Grimes, a woman, defeat McConnell would be an awesome "icing" on the cake, outgunned.

  4. McTurtle will be toast!

The only thing he stands up for  . . .  is to pee, and even that is debatable!  It is time to flush him back down the sewer out from which he crawled.

Grimes all the way!  And then in 2016, it will be time for Rand Paul to be flushed back down the sewer!

  5. It is time for the Turtle to retire into his shell and let the good people of Kentucky have a true representative in the Senaet by electing Allison Grimes. If I never had to see his faux smile again it would really make me grin.

  6. "Schadenfreude" a little guilty pleasure at seeing the ruins of McConnell. I think we have seen this play out before. McConnell "misunderstands" that there is a difference between doing the right thing and coming in after the fact to say you did the right thing. I guess that should be the correct thing.

Ladies we all owe a big shout out to Congress for blocking any legislation on equal pay. Suddenly equal rights is a "free market" issue, or how I avoid doing any thing, but saying that everything is a "free market" issue.

I do hope you all saw Bill Maher, if not ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLmUJurg4Hw ) here is Congressman (R – Louisiana ) Vance (family values) McAllister married and kissing his married staffer. If that was only a kiss, well, a little kiss never has lasted that long. She has been removed from the payroll. HE has not resigned.

Oh hypocrisy! Thy name is "Family Values" careful what you claim. There just might be a camera around.

  7. If I remember correctly Grimes outraised Mitch the last TWO reporting periods.  Though I may be thinking of a different race.

Mitchell D (C2), I wouldn't blame you for taking him personally, since he is certainly not a credit to your name!  But for whatever reason – best comment of the day!  No, the week!

  8. McConnell stand up for only his interests only, no one elses…

  9. I'm sorry I couldn't stop laughing after reading "McConnell noted that he was chair of the Senate ethics committee".. so my eyes Were watering.. seriously, "ethics" & "Senate" AND Republican all in the same paragraph & it Didn't burn my monitor screen??!!!! 😉

  10. Mother Jones:  I shared this on Facebook with the notation that if they believe him I have ocean front property to sell in Kentucky.  He has never supported women and his actions on the Equal Pay Act prove it. He is running scared, and he should be very very scared.  The two Republicans who are running against him are dragging up all the dirt they can find. Alison Grimes raised more campaign money than he did last quarter. Maybe, maybe, we will have a decent Senator next time, if Grimes wins the election.

  11. Thanks everyone.  I overslept and am runing way late.
