RepublicansOnParade

Here is the forty-fifth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Congressman Vance McCallister (R-LA). He is honored for his demonstration of Republican family values.

0410McAllisterThis only happened because gays can get married now, I’m sure.

[Louisiana’s] Fifth District Congressman Vance McAllister, who campaigned for office last fall as a devout Christian and devoted husband and father, was caught in video surveillance two days before Christmas passionately embracing and kissing one of his congressional aides.

The aide, identified as Melissa Anne Hixon Peacock, is married to one Heath Peacock, long-time friend of McAllister as well as a big ol’ campaign donor, to the tune of $5,200. Ouch.

McAllister, thus far, has been only known as the guy who brought the Duck Dynasty guy to the State of the Union Address in January. He won his seat in a special election last fall to replace Rep. Rodney Alexander, who left the House to take a post in Gov. Bobby Jindal’s administration. McAllister clearly wanted to be known for his family values

Watch McAllister talk about his values.

Watch McAllister demonstrate Republican family values.

He say’s he has repented, and made a tearful apology, the way Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians do, whenever they get caught.  But he made no apology to the aide’s husband, whose marriage is on the rocks, or to the aide herself, who has lost her job and whom he may actually have fired.  How very Republican he is!

  1. Good question from Gloria (Care2), "Why do the women have to quit work while the jerks make press conferences?"  My answer is that it's because in American politics womern are the real n-words.  I would go a little farther and ask how many of these incidents there have to be made very public before it will affect voting patterns?  Or is that "Never," especially since some Democrats (Anthony Weiner, John Edwards) are no better?

  2. I hadn't gotten to my morning election digest email yet when I posted.  Now I have, and I think, though maybe more than anyone outside LA-05 wants to know, this has some very provocative information, especially near the end:

LA-05: A long list of local Republicans—and a couple of Democrats, too—are so far mostly avoiding the question of whether they're interested in running against GOP Rep. Vance McAllister, who was recently caught making out with one of his now-former aides in a campaign office. (McAllister and the staffer are both married to other people.) No one has outright said "no," but some are more keen than others. The Times Picayune's Lauren McGaughy canvasses them all. The first batch (Riser through Hunter) all ran in the special election and are sorted by the order they finished in:

State Sen. Neil Riser (R): "too early to be talking about" it
Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo (D): "not planning on running"
Public Service Commissioner Clyde Holloway (R): "very content" with his current job
State Rep. Bob Johnson (D): "certainly very interested."
State Rep. Jay Morris (R): "no comment"
State Rep. Marcus Hunter (D): says he has no plans to run
State Sen. Elbert Guillory (R): keeping his eye on it
State Rep. Charles "Bubba" Chaney (R): not commenting
State Rep. Frank Hoffmann (R): not commenting

Other possible Republicans include state Sen. Mike Walsworth and businessman Harris Brown. While this seat is dark red and Democrats would have a difficult time here under the best of circumstances, four different Democrats split the vote in the special, leaving Mayo to finish just 3 points behind McAllister. Had the party been united, McAllister likely never would have made the runoff. Mindful of this fate, Hunter promises that the party "will be running one Democrat this time, if I have anything to do with it."

But regardless of what his potential opponents decide, can McAllister really hang on? Unnamed sources tell The Hill that state GOP chair Roger Villere has been trying to talk to McAllister so that he can ask him to resign, but McAllister has allegedly been ducking Villere's calls and emails. Usually this just means that the pressure will soon get directed through public, rather than private, channels.

    • Very interesting JD.  The spurs are on and the cocks are going to duke it out.  Seems though that the Republicanus/Teabaggers are being cagey by saying "no comment", or is it that they don't want their dirty laundry aired either?

  3. "faith, family and country"?  My ass!

If he was so concerned about his faith, he would not have committed adultery.

If he was so concerned about his family, he would not have committed adultery.  Saying "sorry" to your family for the pain caused just doesn't cut it for me.  And then to not apologise to the errant woman and her spouse isw unthinkable.  My guess is that he will paint her as a Jezebel leading him astray.

If he was so concerned about his country, then why is he denying its citizens affordable healthcare?

Vance McAllister is a son of the South and the Republicanus/Teabagger party and needs to be politically unemployed!

  4. Vance Mcallister is a perfect example of "Do as I say, not as I do".

  5. Politicians always ask for forgiveness, rather than permission.  I hope his wife kicks his butt out.

  6. People are weal and adukltery happens in both parties, both genderfs, and all walks of life.  As a rule, I think personal shopulkd stay that way.  What makes this different is thje McAllister ran as a moralist and condemned thoise who are not.

  7. The story of McAllister reminds me of when I went to some Church of England house groups twenty-five odd years ago – we were looking at the story of the woman taken in adultery – and our curate, Andy, made us all think by saying about this story which we had known since children – "What happened to the man taken in adultery?  No-one can commit adultery alone – there had to be a man there – what happened to him?  Presumably he was let off by all the men sitting in judgement on this poor woman!"  (Andy was a very good man, as you can see).  One standard for men, one for women is still going fine with the Right Wingers it seems!

  8. Louisiana's] Fifth District Congressman Vance McAllister needs to resign or be ousted…
