If you are a member of one of over a million American families, you may awaken tomorrow morning to discover that Republicans have stolen the presents from under your tree.  That is because Republicans have a Christmas present for America in keeping with the false gospel of Republican Supply-side Jesus.

Three days after Christmas, unemployment benefits end for 1.3 million people who have exhausted their state unemployment benefits, but still can’t find a job.

To be eligible for unemployment benefits, you have to be actively looking for a job. Virtually all of these people would rather work, but can’t find a job in today’s economy where there are three applicants for every job available.

But when the budget deal was negotiated in Congress over the last several weeks, Republican negotiators refused to agree to continue those unemployment benefits. And at the same time, they demanded the continuation of tax breaks for big oil companies and loopholes for Wall Street billionaires who get their income from hedge funds.

Merry Christmas from the GOP.

Of course this kind of Christmas cheer comes from the same gang that routinely drags out the well-worn charge that progressives and Democrats are engaging in a "war on Christmas". Maybe someone should force Republican Members of Congress to sit through a showing of "A Christmas Carol" and then explain why they think Ebenezer Scrooge is the hero.

Over the last decade the far right, that now dominates the GOP, has conducted a real war on the values that we celebrate at Christmas… [emphasis added]

Whether or not you choose to believe this, Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ and should focus us on the values he taught.  He reiterated over and over again that the highest level of care for those in need is integral to authentic faith.  Sadly, this example is all too typical of how Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians do the exact opposite.  While they accuse us of a war on Christmas, we fight only against the false Republican gospel of greed, which has absolutely nothing in common with authentic Christianity.

I am a poor man, but tomorrow I will share my table with people less fortunate than I, because that is following Jesus’ example.  It’s a very small thing, but enough small things can make a difference.  Another way to make a difference is to remove Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians from office.  No matter what you believe, authentic faith means we take care of each other, not just billionaires.

  1. I agree with every word you say about the GOP's behaviour  TC – and congratulations on sharing your table with those less fortunate, I hope you have a wonderful time, and I bet you will, there's nothing like true generosity to brighten everyone's day!

  2. Dems are also responsible for the rotten budget.  They could have let the right wing hang itself again.  Instead, they chose to come out gushing about the bipartisanship involved in creating it.  It's a nasty little budget and Dems have shown that they don't give a damn about working people and the poor either by voting for it.

    • Angelica, here's where you're wrong.  By refusiing to agree on those few things on which they could agree they would have gained nothing.  When they return next month, they can approach it as a single issue, and as such, it will be easier to shame Republicans into giving-in.  It is much smarter for them to get what they can today, and get thwe rest tomorrow than to adopt a foolish all or nothing approach get nothing at all.

  3. They make the Grinch look like Santa Claus.

  4. It's not that hard for someone who claims to be a Christian to find out what Jesus Christ's demonstrated values were according to the Gospels.    Fighting against the moneychangers in the Church.   Arguing against Righteousness in favor of being good – with the Pharases.   Telling us how hard it was for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.   Welcoming sinners and outsiders.    Taking care of the needy.

In general, doing the opposite of what Pat Robertson does.

  5. Republicans make it very easy to be angry at them.  I am too.  Kudos to TC for rising above that.  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

  6. Republicans push their "Christian values" on issues like abortion, but allow people to starve for lack of food and die early from a lack of healthcare. Nothing new, Republicans are hypocrites, that cause human death and suffering.

  7. They say there are givers and there are takers.  The takers eat better but the givers sleep better.  Whether that is so or not, I believe some of these takers are going to be shaking in their boots when they come face to face with the God they are always quoting.  Heheh

Many blessings upon your head, Tom – and many thanks for all you do and all you are!

  8. Yes I agree that the "Budget" was wimpy BUT the guarantee(hopefully) that there will be no Government "shut down"( the last one, Ted Cruz,s cost us (the American tax payer)$24 million ..

The lackof extension of unemployment benefits is  Cruel and more important, ridiculous, someone should tell, Mr Ryan that people with money in their pockets SPEND MONEY and herefore help the economy! and that A jobs bill and infrastructure and transpoertation bill will energize the jobs market!.but the Repugs cannot do that as it MIGHT help the President and we cannot have that can we???

In closing Have a happy everyone. and remember . Elections have consquences, think before you vote.

  9. I agree with you as always TC, I am thankful for another day to enjoy and with my brother-in-law who saved his life by remaining clean and sober for over one year now… It's a blessing to witness and for that I am grateful… Merry Christmas to all my Friends, Family, and Republican Rat Bastards too… 😎

  10. TC,  I tell all my Republican friends that Jesus was a liberal.  He would not approve of the actions of Congress, hurting the poor, cutting funds that feed and educate children while giving more to the wealthy every time they vote.  I still don't understand how any person who is poor or middle class can vote Republican.

  11.   Repubs. I don't think they have concern for anyone who is not rich. they view the rest as "less" than necessary to them.  If I remember correctly….Jesus said something like…" What you do onto the least of My creatures, you do onto Me.".

  12. Happy holidays, TC! You are always right on with your observations of the far-right idiots we have in office!
