Lets make one thing clear. Republicans do not object to government spending. If fact, they love to spend YOUR money on such things as financing the cost of moving YOUR jobs to third world countries where Vulture Capitalists can exploit workers to rake in more profit, which they then keep offshore so YOU get to pay their share of taxes too. To increase welfare for the rich, Republicans are about to impoverish 1.3 million Americans right away and up to 4.8 Million next year.

1119WelfareRecipientsUnless Congress acts, during the last week of December an estimated 1.3 million people will lose access to an emergency program providing them with additional weeks of jobless benefits. A further 850,000 will be denied benefits in the first quarter of 2014.

Congressional Democrats and the White House, pointing to the sluggish recovery and the still-high jobless rate, are pushing once again to extend the period covered by the unemployment insurance program. But with Congress still far from a budget deal and still struggling to find alternatives to the $1 trillion in long-term cuts known as sequestration, lawmakers say the chances of an extension before Congress adjourns in two weeks are slim.

As a result, one of the largest stimulus measures passed during the recession is likely to come to an end, and jobless workers in many states are likely to receive considerably fewer weeks of benefits.

In all, as many as 4.8 million people could be affected by expiring unemployment benefits through 2014, estimated Gene Sperling, President Obama’s top economic adviser… [emphasis added]

While millionaires, billionaires, and corporate criminals have more than enough wealth snake-holed away in offshore tax havens to more than pay the entire national debt. Yet those same people $2 billion on government welfare for every $1 billion to help ALL poor people, not just the unemployed. So why are they doing this?

Republicans represent millionaires, billionaires and corporate criminals.

They do NOT represent YOU!!

  1. Republicans only need common folk to do their work for them. Otherwise we are useless and deserve nothing. Tom Tomorrow of the Daily Kos explains it all in cartoon form.

  2. Sometimes I think it best to just let some of the facts speak:

$15,080 — The annual income for a full-time employee working the entire year at the federal minimum wage.

0 — The number of states where a minimum wage worker can afford a two-bedroom apartment working a 40-hour week. Learn more.

3 — The number of times Congress passed legislation to increase the minimum wage in the past 30 years.

19 — The number of states (including the District of Columbia) that have raised their minimum wage above the federal level of $7.25.

10 — The number of states that annually increase their state minimum to keep up with the rising cost of living.

67 — The percentage of Americans who support gradually raising the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to at least $10.00 an hour, according to an October 2010 poll.

64 in 100 vs. 4 in 100 — What are the chances an adult minimum wage worker is a woman vs. the chances a Fortune 500 CEO is a woman? Learn more.

$2.13 — The federal minimum wage for tipped employees, such as waiters and waitresses, nail salon workers or parking attendants.

Remember that the president has and continues to bring up a National JOBS Act, put people to work, grow our economy, repair our infrastructure, add a Jobs training program (for those whose jobs no longer exist and for returning military). Working people, paid at a fair wage, pay taxes and take nothing from the government. Logic would dictate that every republican would love this, but no, where would the whining material come from? A comprehensive JOBS program and an increase in the minimum wage just makes sense.

It seems TC is back on his feet! Good news.

  3. More than three quarters of Americans support an increase in the minimum wage, according to a Gallup Poll released Monday.

Seventy-six percent said the minimum wage should be raised to $9 per hour, a five point jump from March. A law that would raise the minimum wage and tie future minimum wage increases to inflation got slightly less support at 69 percent.

Fifty-six percent of Republicans said they oppose linking the minimum wage to inflation, while only eight percent of Democrats opposed that type of measure.

Voters in New Jersey approved a measure Tuesday that raises the minimum wage in the state to $8.25 and ties further increases to inflation.

President Obama reportedly supports a Democratic bill that would raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 and link future increases to inflation.

There are many polls that indicate a strong support of an increase to the minimum wage. I will not take up pages and pages of this article to post other articles. Just Google Polls on minimum wage.

  4. Does ANYONE think that they CARE!!??They are currently sitting on their backsides doing NOTHING,just running the clock out to the holidays. They have been in session less than one third of the year and have accomplished 0.

They have refused to bring the Jobs act for three years now, refused to bring immigration reform to congress, and they surely will not move on the minimum wage. (Whilst enjoying their $172,,000< salaries and universal health Care. They are,as the saying goes. "on the vessel".) Sad part. big corporations will still finance them.and the idiotic public will still vote for tem TOO BAD!

  5. What is really sad is that so many of the "in their 30s" generation just don't even vote at all. And most of those would be Democrats or are Democrats. We need to push for compulsory voting in this country. Democracy carries a responsibility and there are a lot of people who just flat refuse to participate, many of them don't even know how the country is actually run, having the idea that somehow the President has all the power, and so if things are going badly, it is his fault. And that is what Republicans count on to get votes. My grandson is in high school, yet he has never had a class on civics in his publicly funded education and in fact, has not had any kind of instruction as to how the three branches of our government work. Sorry if I shouldn't put links here, but this is something that is really important for the furture of this country. http://www.civicmissionofschools.org/action-center/sign-a-petition Thanks, TC. We can't say it enough that the REAL drain on our society is Corporations, not people. By the way … how do I use my Care2 avatar here?

    • BTW, sign up for Disqus and use your Care2 avatar there.

    • Thanks ans Amen Deb, Go to gravatar.com and ,ake it your gravatar. It will become your abatar an any WordPress blog (and others) where you use the same email address that you use at Gravatar.

  6. You would think that statistics like these would make progressives angry enough to vote! Sadly, not so. Truthfully, most people already agree with us. We really don't need to make our case (except for reminders) but we do need to GET OUT THE VOTE. At this point preparing for 2014 that probably translates to getting people registered and getting them the credentials they need in states where they need credentials. But a big push is needed at election time, often to the point of physically taking people to their polling places. It's a lot of work, but without it, progressives just don't vote. See the map I posted a link to in the open thread.

  7. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says he doesn’t want to run for president, but will consider it if the race is without a strong liberal voice.

I would support him as he advocates for us everyday… ❗
