More Than One Issue!

Republicans have been dominating the media and keeping, one and only one issue in the forefront of America’s consciousness.  They are making ObamaCare look lie a good issue for them by using the confusion from the Obama Administration failure to get the web site online on time, their own Republican lies, and Big Insurance lies and scams to generate fear in the American people.  What we need to realize is that ObamaCare is just one very temporary issue, and hammer at all the other issues in which Republicans are completely out of step with the American people.

Republicans are out of touch with much of the country on social issues such as gay marriage and abortion, according to new poll findings from Bloomberg released late Thursday.

While 55 percent of Americans — including 7 in 10 young people — support the right of gay and lesbian couples to get married, 52 percent of Republicans are opposed.

The poll also showed that 40 percent of Republicans want state legislatures to continue to push for laws that limit abortion, nearly double the 22 percent of Americans who feel that way…

While this poll is a clear indication that Republicans are out of touch with America on this issue, Republican politicians, pundits and propagandists are so extreme that they are out of touch with most Republican voters on most issues.

Rachel Maddow illustrated this point by comparing public opinion and Republican voter opinion with what the Republican Congress and specifically John Boehner (R-$) with Peter Welch (D-VT).

Republicans are right that government is a failure, but only when Republicans govern.  60% of Republican voters support ENDA. 86% of Republican voters support immigration reform. 58% of Republican voters support raising the minimum wage. 81% of Republican voters support background checks. 53% of Republican voters support the Buffet rule. That’s just scratching the surface.  It’s up to us to get the facts out, because the most od themedia won’t do it. We need to remind people that there is more than just one issue.

Unless you’re a billionaire, a corporate criminal, or a hatemonger, even if you’re a Republican, the Republican Party dies NOT represent YOU!

  1. OMD, I'm either stuck in Groundhog Day or the Twilight Zone…SS,DD. Over and over and over again. SIGH.

  2. So sorry TC – can't watch anything today or comment due to half an hour's sleep last night due to rodent in attic and noisy neighbour (my turn!)…. am gibbering with fatigue…so sorry!

  3. Love that picture.  It really says it all.  Sad.

"The poll also showed that 40 percent of Republicans want state legislatures to continue to push for laws that limit abortion, nearly double the 22 percent of Americans who feel that way…"  Even among Republicans, still a minority.

  4. First, let's admit that the rollout of ObamaCare has been seriously flawed – and should have been preventable.

Second, the election is A YEAR AWAY!

That is several lifetimes in political cycles.  The website will be up and running, and much of this will be old news.

Still the most critical thing will GOTV!

    • I fully agree and have said so.

I agree, with the caveat that Republiocans will contonue to interfere with the implementation of ObamaCare at the state level.

  5. The Bu$h League Era proved that the Media is CONservative – so RepubliCON's under the spell of FAUX News will believe anything. Bu$h Leaguers got where they are by screaming the loudest & longest, facts & popular sentiment mean Nothing. Most Politicians have no idea what the Majority wants & needs & couldn't care less if they accidently do find out!

  6. Leave it to the Republicans to harp on and on about the shortcomings of Obamacare when there are more pressing matters plaguing our country.

Where are the jobs, Speaker Boehner?

  7. That is an easy answer Gloria, we use the lowest bidder. That sounds financially sound, but it is not. This web-site is one of so many things that have gone wrong because of this long history of taking the lowest bid, over the best possible contractor to get a job correctly the first time. When we shop for something, most of us have learned that the cheapest is not always the best. How is something a bargain that must be repaired and replace?

Polls vary depending on who is asked what questions:

Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research fielded the CAP poll –
Nearly three-fourths of voters (73 percent) support protecting gay and transgender people from workplace discrimination. This support cuts across political party affiliation, with
    81 percent of Democrats,

    74 percent of independents

    66 percent of Republicans

supporting workplace nondiscrimination laws for LGBT people. Further, the poll shows that
    Catholic (74 percent support)

    senior citizen (61 percent support)
voters are also clearly in favor of workplace protections for LGBT people. Even among voters who identify themselves as feeling generally unfavorable toward gay people, a full 50 percent support workplace nondiscrimination protections for the gay and transgender population.

The survey also found that nine of out ten voters mistakenly believe that a federal law is already in place protecting LGBTQ people from discrimination in the work place.

On immigration this CBS poll shows the progress in thinking:

CBS News Poll. Oct. 18-21, 2013. N=1,007 adults nationwide. Margin of error ± 3.

"Would you favor or oppose providing a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants in the U.S. if they met certain requirements including a waiting period, paying fines and back taxes, passing criminal background checks, and learning English?"

    Republicans favor – 77% – Oppose 20% — Not sure — 3%

    Democrats favor – 87% – Oppose 11% — Not sure — 3%

    Independents favor 75% – Oppose 22% — Not sure — 3%

If anyone has a doubt that the current gaggle of republicans do not represent the mainstream of the United States those two polls are a strong indicator that they do not.

Though with the very supportive gerrymandering, I do think it's fair to say that many of the dunderheads will be re-elected. They will think that their constituents support them, when in fact they seem support a party over the person or candidate.

The most distasteful display of a totalitarian take over of a state government is currently visible in Wisconsin.

Just remember democrats, for each of you that do not vote, Cheney will kill a kitten – so plan for 2014, and get out there and VOTE!!!

Good news TomCat is feeling frisky and ready to be a voice again!!! Yayyy!

    • Kitty, about the polls, I spent many years working in opinion research, so I know the difference between a legittimate poll with no internal bias and a "push Poll".  Thanks for the data and link.

  8. The Republicans and teabaggers are dancing in the streets over the debacle of enrolling for the ACA.  Someone dropped the ball on this one and it should never have happened.  As Nameless said, by the next election, this will be corrected and most will be satisfied with the ACA.  Republicans are so out of touch with reality, if it were not for faux news, they would have no audience.

  9. "McCaffrey, who lives in Tampa, said her views are shaped partly because she has family members who are gay. “I don’t want them to be excluded,” she said. "

    Equal Rights and empathy….

  10. I just photocopied the cartoon above – Voting Republican – so I can mail it to my Conservative Friends… 🙄
