  1. Thank you to All who have served!

  2. Thanks TC – and may governments all over the world take care of their returned veterans – particularly those injured in the service of their countries!

  3. Happy Veterans Day. Semper Paratus ❗

  4. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month we pause to remember all the fallen of so many wars in the 20th and 21st centuries. Remembrance Day in Canada, Veterans' Day in the US, started as a way to remember the fallen of World War I, the war to end all wars. For me, the first thoughts, other than those who were lost, comes in a poem written by Lt Colonel John McCrae of the Canadian Expeditionary Force . . .

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    Lest we not forget.
    Namaste

  5. I'm heading out to Illinois to celebrate my Mom's 97th Birthday … which just happens to fall on Veterans' Day.

Of course it fell on "Veteran's Day" BEFORE it was Veterans' Day – it even fell on 11-11-16 before it was ARMISTICE Day.

I'll relay to her the "Happy B-Day!" … "Good Wishes" … "You Go Girl!" that I'm sure will be forthcoming to a 97 y/o cancer survivor, stroke victim, fractured hip & hip replacement survivor, macular degeneration gal who STILL lives by HERSELF in a two-story home!  (I know I've shared that w/ you guys before, but I am so dang proud of my Mom it bears repeating!)

We'll be going out to a fancy-schmanzy restaurant with my 85 y/o aunt for lunch to belatedly celebrate (dinner comes too late anymore for their geriatric wishes – and I'm starting to realize the wisdom of their timing) – so I'll be out of service for a bit.  (It's just too much of a hassle to surf w/ a smartphone when you want to make entries)

    • Happy Birthday to your Mom, whoa 97 and more to come… 😆

    • Nameless, if you weren't so "dang proud" of your mum, you would not be the friend I've come to cherish.

These are moments that never come again, so we celebrate.  Happy Birthday momma!

    • Give your Mom a Happy Birthday from this hillbillly. And a congrats to your Aunt who is still going strong.  I wish my 84 year old Mom was half as independent.

    • A very Happy Birthday to Mama Nameless!

  6. Love this graphic.  We should all be thanking them, every day.

  7. Thank you all, and Happy Birthday to Mama Nameless.

  8. Thanks.  Semper fidelis.

  9. Missing you, Tom, and hoping you are feeling more human…

  10. I have to wonder why we make our Veterans and service people poverty citizens and beg for their needs after performing a life and death job. Maybe it's because we would just as soon forget what they did and the killing involved?  Service people deserve better, but that means paying more taxes, something Americans just won't do.
