From Upworthy: Congress Did Something So Spectacularly Creepy That It’s Too Unbelievable To Make Up

On the House floor, Congressman Chris Van Hollen decided to get a clarification on the rules of the shutdown. Apparently, normally any congressperson can call for a vote on any bill at any time. But just before the shutdown happened, the GOP quietly passed a measure that said only House Majority Leader Eric Cantor can call for the shutdown to end (unless he gives a designee permission).

If nothing else, this should show you that, on October 1, the Republican Party leadership anticipated that their sedition would comprise a minority position, even in the House where Republicans hold the majority.  They acted to prevent majority rule, thereby rendering the democratic process in Congress moot. Seven pieces of DINO dog crap betrayed America and goose-stepped with the Republicans in support of HR 368: Ron Barber AZ-2, John Barrow GA-12, Dan Maffei NY-24 Sean Patrick Maloney NY-18, Jim Matheson UT-4, Mike McIntyre NC-7 and Collin Peterson MN-7.  Of one of them is yours, tell them what you think of what they did.

From The New Yorker: Adding his voice to the eleventh-hour debate about the government shutdown, Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) today proposed reopening just enough of the government to hold new hearings on Benghazi.

“Across this great nation of ours, people are suffering,” he told Fox News’s Megyn Kelly. “Suffering, Megyn, because they still don’t know what really happened in Benghazi.”

Noting that the government shutdown had furloughed investigators who could be looking into Benghazi, he said, “If there’s something in our government more worthy of funding than that, I can’t think of it.”

Andy may have just given Idiot, Son of Idiot, Named after Idiot an idea.

  1. 3:18 Back home, on my own laptop, watching the cats peek around corners at me.

  2. Esquire ~ Great minds think alike, Tom. I am officially one of the Bleeding Hearts of the Left Wing.

Upworthy ~ Rep. Chris Van Hollen was correct! Democracy was suspended along with the Government Shutdown. What slimeballs! Of course, my RepublicanT congressman, Richard Hanna voted YES on H.R. 368 to change the rules. Then he played the Big Man standing against the Party and voted against the Shutdown. What a lying sack of shit!

New Yorker ~ It's a good thing they came to a resolution of the ShutStorm. Otherwise, Goofy Odd Paul might have brought this to the floor.

    Cartoon ~ Yuck!

  3. God bless Congressman Van Hollen – fascinating clip – he got the weaselly Chair to admit it several times (even though he didn't want to) that they had changed the rules and only the Speaker or his designate could end the shut-down.  Bunch of  ….. well I know some choice phrases in French that describe them – and any one of them would send those sad apologies for humanity home crying for their mothers!

How on earth did they manage to do this without a vote in the whole house with everyone being present?  They have already shown us that they have the practice of gerrymandering down to a fine art – but this gross undermining of democracy is quite shocking!

    • Amen Pat!

There was a vote.  AQll the Republicans voted for it, and the horrible Democrats who joined them are the names I listed in red.

  4. I'm a bleeding heart!

  5. I'm also a 100% certified Bleeding Heart! I suspect that many who post here will be as well.

  6. ~ 5:07

They acted to prevent majority rule, thereby rendering the democratic process in Congress moot.

    Democracy hyjacked….

  7. I'm a Bleeding Heart. 🙂

  8. Over 6 minutes, but I got a phone call while solving which I needed to take.

100% certified bleeding heart.  But I think of myself as a Progressive rather than a Liberal.

With reference to a previous Andy, I feel there is something to be said for large birds of prey which fly off with their victims, disembowel them alive in mid air, and then drop them.

  9. Esquire…. Big surprise, I am a bleeding heart ten percenter.

UPworthy… That has been their aim for all of us, the end of democracy.

The New Yorker…. please don't give Rand anymore ideas, he can come up with enough idiocy all on his own.

    Love the toon.

  10. Puzzle — 3:13  Pussy cat, pussy cat, I love you, yes I do!

Esquire — Damned if I am not a flaming bluer than blue liberal bleeding heart!  I am not in the New American Centre and not because I am a Canuck!

Upworthy — Talk about Teabuggery!  Talk about manufacturing a crisis to suit ideological purposes and engineering its continuatiion.  Talk about forethought and planning.  If ever there was evidence of the seditious intent of the Republicanus/Teabaggers, this is some of it.

The New Yorker — Well, I'll agree with AB's Rand Paul on this part of his statement:

“Sometimes, you have to put politics aside when there is something more important at stake, … "

However I disagree with the second part:

"…and I think any reasonable person would agree that there is nothing more important than getting to the bottom of Benghazi."  It should read:

"… and I think any reasonable person would agree that there is nothing more important than getting the government opened up and the debt ceiling raised so that the American people can try to return to sanity."

    Cartoon — Well looky there . . . it's the innerds of a Republicanus/Teabagger . . . a toxic waste dump!
