I’m writing for tomorrow and need to catch up some sleep because Stuck on Stupid and Disability Check Queen are fighting, not again, but still.  In addition I made a store run and did laundry.  Tomorrow is a prison volunteer day, so expect me to be hurrying then and possibly lust Open Threads or absent Wednesday and/or Thursday.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:25 (average 4:27).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) raised the ante in the battle over the Affordable Care Act on Sunday, telling CNN’s Candy Crowley that “destroying the entire planet is really the best and only way to stop Obamacare.”

“Look, I’m in favor of shutting down the government and not raising the debt ceiling, but let’s not kid ourselves. Those are only half measures,” he told Crowley. “If we are really serious about stopping Obamacare, we’ll destroy the entire planet.”

Explaining his proposal to a visibly alarmed Crowley, Senator Cruz said, “Obamacare is like a parasite that needs a host to feed on. If you want to kill the parasite you kill the host, and in this case that means killing this planet. As long as there’s a planet Earth, the nightmare of Obamacare could always come screaming back to life.”

While he was not specific about how he would go about destroying the planet, Cruz said, “This is something that my colleagues and I have been working on for some time.”

In the event of a Debt Default, Andy may be prophetic.

From Alternet: Pat Robertson to elderly woman viewer: It’s your fault your husband’s health his suffering.

Always willing to comfort his flock, Pat Robertson used his “700 Club” pulpit recently to set a woman straight about priorities. Retired and living on a small pension and Social Security pension, the woman was faced with the difficult decision of whether to give money to her church or pay her husband’s medical expenses.

This whole situation is all her fault, Robertson told her. Her husband is sick precisely because her contribution to the church has been inadequate, despite a lifetime of tithing.

“Your husband has all these medical problems because the ‘devour’ has not been rebuked,” Robertson explained. “You need to rebuke him. You give your tithes faithfully and God said, ‘I will rebuke the devour,’ the person that is eating up your money and eating up your health. So you want to be healthy? That’s a promise in the word.”

This just one of ten appalling statements from the Republican madhouse in the last week alone. Click through for the other nine. As for Republican Supply-side pseudo Christian, Pat Robertson, someone needs to upset his tables and drive him from the temple with a whip of cords.

From Daily Kos: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the bedrock of traditional Republicanism, now says that it will get involved in Republican primaries by providing financial support to incumbent Republicans who vote to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling. In other words, if some Republicans act responsibly and then have to face tea party challengers accusing them of being RINOs, the Chamber will have the back of those reasonable Republicans. It’s a civil war within the GOP, folks.

That’s how far off the deep end the tea party and right-wing House Republicans have gone. They’ve lost the Chamber of Commerce.

This Republican sedition even hurts most of the business community. Whether this will matter, I know not, but for the Republican’s own sake, this is the best that could happen. With promised backing from the chamber, those Republicans, who said they will support a clean CR, will have no excuse for failing to sign the discharge petition.

  1. 2:49  . . . and I didn't get stung!  But did I get mashed or crunched?

  2. Puzzle — 2:49  . . . and I didn't get stung!  But did I get mashed or crunched?

The New Yorker — I just had an idea although some big "ifs" are needed.  IF Cruz has not yet received the ministerial permit to renounce his Canadian citizenship; and IF the US defaults on its debt plunging the world into an economic and financial abyss; and IF Harper the wannabe Republicanus/Teabagger will agree, perhaps Canada can get Cruz on treason charges!

    From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treason#Canada

    "Treason
    (2) Every one commits treason who, in Canada,

    (a) uses force or violence for the purpose of overthrowing the government of Canada or a province;
    (b) without lawful authority, communicates or makes available to an agent of a state other than Canada, military or scientific information or any sketch, plan, model, article, note or document of a military or scientific character that he knows or ought to know may be used by that state for a purpose prejudicial to the safety or defence of Canada;
    (c) conspires with any person to commit high treason or to do anything mentioned in paragraph (a);
    (d) forms an intention to do anything that is high treason or that is mentioned in paragraph (a) and manifests that intention by an overt act; or
    (e) conspires with any person to do anything mentioned in paragraph (b) or forms an intention to do anything mentioned in paragraph (b) and manifests that intention by an overt act."

It is also illegal for a Canadian citizen or a person who owes allegiance to Her Majesty in right of Canada to do any of the above outside Canada.

The penalty for high treason is life imprisonment. The penalty for treason is imprisonment up to a maximum of life, or up to 14 years for conduct under subsection (2)(b) or (e) in peacetime."

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm . . .

Alternet — I have to say it yet again . . . "Stupid is as stupid does!"

"…ten appalling statements from the Republican madhouse in the last week alone."

They never seem to tire of the appalling lies and bull shit!

Daily Kos — Does this mean there might just be hope?  Is the US Chamber of Commerce the Daddy Warbucks of some Republicans who might need to be rescued from the jaws of the Teabagger primary machine?  Will it be enough?  I'm full of questions tonight!

Cartoon — Are those Boehner's balls being used to destroy the US, or maybe Cruz's?  I wonder if they will try to build it up again in their own image after they've torn it down!

    • That one was all yhou!

What a wonderful idea.  Sadly, I fear that instead, Harper might hire him to give him TEAbuggery lessons.

      They get that from Goebels.

I wish I was full of answers!

Nope.  His itsy-bitsy balls wouldn't make a dent!

  3. Strewth!  TC I was unwise enough to look up the Daily Kos article – I know Pat Robertson is a vile human being – but stealing a widow's mite with menaces sounds so very far from the conduct asked of us by God – so I had to look up the article.  Wish I hadn't – off for a shower – is there some mind bending drug in the Repugs coffee?  What is WRONG with those people?!!

  4. New Yorker ~ I hope it's not prophetic.

Alternet ~ Supply-side jesus has spoken! The poor woman must give much more to the church or her husband will get sicker.

Daily Kos ~ The Right Wing-nuts are the ruination of the RepublicanT party. Money talks. Maybe they will listen to the Chamber.

Cartoon ~ Is that Miley Cyrus' wrecking ball?

  5. ~ 5:42

While he was not specific about how he would go about destroying the planet, Cruz said, “This is something that my colleagues and I have been working on for some time.”

It seems clear why I am against everything he and his kind stand for, fracking is one of many at the expense of the planet for future generations.

This whole situation is all her fault, Robertson told her.

This one makes me ill and all the more reason to strengthen the ACA aka ObamaCare.

With promised backing from the chamber, those Republicans, who said they will support a clean CR, will have no excuse for failing to sign the discharge petition.

If bribery works I'm all for it…

  6. I hope you have a good day at the prison and that the guitar man and his queen are quiet tonight.

Andy seems prophetic to me.  Cruz is so crazy, nothing he would say or do would surprise me.  I am disgusted with the news media for giving him so much air time.

I read all the Altermet goofs.  Do those people never listen to what they are saying?  Idiots.  All of them.  Robertson has to be suffering from dementia.

The Chamber of Commerce must be scared if they are going to support those who go against the tea party.

    The cartoon is spot on.

    • I did, Edie, and I'm exhausted.  Stuck on Stupid and Disability Check Queen are a pair.  Guitar man is a solo act.

As long as he weilds influence, he'll get it.'

      Amen!

      Thanks!
