The Pinnacle of Sedition

When I posted in Saturday’s Open Thread that John “Agent Orange” Boehner (R-OH) was said to have promised there will be no Credit Default, even if he needed Democratic votes, I said, “The media seem to be reporting this as gospel, and I’m not saying it isn’t true, but I’m sure not ready to take it to the bank. Boehner said two months ago that Republicans would not shut down the government, so he has no credibility in such matters (or any other matters). In addition, this is just hearsay from an anonymous Republican (and therefore unreliable) source, not even from Agent Orange himself. Color me from Missouri on this one.”  What Boehner supposedly said then and what he is saying now are polar opposites.

7BoehnerHatSpeaker John Boehner (R-OH) insisted Sunday on ABC’s "This Week" that he won’t bring up a "clean" debt limit increase under any circumstances, warning that the U.S. will default on its debt unless President Barack Obama agrees to make policy concessions.

"We’re not going to pass a clean debt limit increase," he said. "I told the president, there’s no way we’re going to pass one. The votes are not in the House to pass a clean debt limit. And the president is risking default by not having a conversation with us."

Obama has repeatedly vowed not to negotiate on whether the country is able to keep paying its bills. Boehner’s speakership is at risk if he defies conservatives and allows the borrowing limit to be raised cleanly. The deadline is Oct. 17 and Boehner said the U.S. is currently on a path to default.

"That’s the path we’re on," he said. "The president canceled his trip to Asia. I assumed — well, maybe he wants to have a conversation. I decided to stay here in Washington this weekend. He knows what my phone number is.  All he has to do is call."… [emphasis added]

Part of the problem here is that Republicans virtually never stop lying.  Did Boehner actually make that promise, or were the Republicans who leaked it lying?  If he did, was Agent Orange lying then or is he lying now?  Who can say?

The bills Boehner threatens to refuse to pay are bills for the spending that he and his Republican  cronies already did, not future spending by Obama, as they dishonestly claim.  If Boehner is serious about critically harming the both the US and World economies with a US Credit Default, that is the pinnacle of sedition

  1. "We’re not going to pass a clean debt limit increase," he said. "I told the president, there’s no way we’re going to pass one. The votes are not in the House to pass a clean debt limit. And the president is risking default by not having a conversation with us."

Seems to me that Boehner previously said that he would not let the country default.  Was he lying?  TC, you said previously that you "were from Missouri" and you'd believe it when you see it.  I guess I am from Missouri too because I don't trust Boehner or any other Republicanus/Teabagger for that matter.

It isn't the POTUS that is risking default but rather Boehner and the Republicanus/Teabaggers who haven't a sane, knowledgeable bone in their bodies. Political ideologues are a pox on humanity!

    • In my opinion, part of the reason that Boehner seems more and more intransigent on the shutdown and the debt ceiling is the fear of being primaried.  Yes he was vulnerable in 2012 but made it through.  But over the past year, Boehner has not been a pillar of strength or leadership.  It seems like the Teabaggers are stronger than in 2010, if only because mainstream Republicans are afraid of them.  They are so far off the grid of craziness, it is truly amazing that anyone with any brains embraces their ideology, or idiotology as I call it.

      • I think they are weaker, nationally, but stronger within the Republican Party, but there may be another explanation.  Stay tuned.

  2. I AM from Missouri and even when I see it, I don't believe it sometimes! Boner is 'He-Who-Speaks-With-Forked-Tongue' No matter if he is speaking, if his lips are moving, he's lying or at best speaking in half-truths. I do not trust anything this creature says or does because it only benefits his Corporate Masters, his cronies or his own bottom line and NEVER the people.

I read this morning that all this shutdown is to get to Medicare and Social Security in order to cut them. Whether or not this is true or only half-true, I wouldn't put it past these Fascist Bastards to do it. What makes me sick in my soul is whether or not Obama has already capitulated to their demented demands…read it for yourselves….

If the President has already told Boner that he will concede to his and his party's demands, then the President truly is the best president the Rethugs have ever had and he is no Democrat, let alone a Progressive (which we know he already isn't). This really upsets me.

    • Terrie that reminds me of a lovely joke told by Maureen Lipman – "How do you tell when a politician is lying?  When they look down at their feet  they are telling the truth; when they straighten their cuffs, they are telling the truth, when they touch their face they are telling the truth – but when they open their mouths.... they are lying!"

    • Terrie, I's like to day that left wing media is honest across the board, bus sadly, some fringe outlets on the left are just as fast and loose with the facts as Faux Noise.  Your source is one of those.  Obama has NOT said he will concede to Boehner's demands.  The ONLY think he has said is that, he will negotiate about anything, AFTER a Clean CR and a Debt Limit increase.  When he does, he  will ask for more revenue from the 1%, with the assurance that no mayter what he offers in exchange will be rejected.

      • Ok, Cat Man, my bad. I get so many news feeds that invariably I will hit on one that isn't reliable. I will delete it from my feeds. Thanks for the heads up. Not on my game of late, sorry.

        • No need to apologize, Terrie.  The only way I knew is that I had to eat crow on more than one occasion, a few years back when I used them as a source, and subsequently had to retract the statement.

  3. I've been expecting Boehner's nose to grow or his pants to burst into flames whenever he speaks. It seems I was wrong. He turns more Orange.

  4. The votes are not in the House to pass a clean debt limit.

This isn't true, and he knows it.  There are enoughRepublicans who would vote for it to pass it along with the Demorcats.  If that doesn't happen, it's purely because Boehner won't allow a vote.

The wild card is that the Republicans are already coming under increasing pressure from their big donors and the business community, who don't want to see the economy wrecked — they're making out pretty well from the economy as it is.  As the debt ceiling approaches, that pressure will become terrific.  Eventually the party leadership will join in.  Is Boehner really going to stand fast against all that, just so he can be a hero to the teabaggers for a few days, then go down in history as the man who triggered the second Great Depression?

    • Idiotology at its finest!

    • Infidel, I fully agree.  The other possibility is that Republicans sho say they will vote for it, are lying.  Since Boehner is lying about everything else, I presume it's him.

I also agree that business is giong to become a bigger thorn in their side as the limit approaches.

  5. Bunch of unmitigated liars!

  6. It's clear thet orange is NOT the new black, but it IS the new white sheet.

  7. Part of the problem here is that Republicans virtually never stop lying.

Sedition yes, anything to keep his bar tab funded…

  8. How about Obama agrees to negotiate. He tells Boehner "OK, John, here's what we're going to negotiate: A federal gun-control law requiring at minimum universal background checks, re-instatement of Glass-Steagall, permanent rejection of the Keystone pipeline, confirmation of all my federal judgeship appointments, an end to conservative attacks on reproductive rights, and a transaction tax on Wall Street."

Can you imagine the screams of outrage from the baggers? I think we'd see 'refusal to negotiate' brought to a whole new level.

In the interests of transparency I must confess that I stole this idea from another blogger, one with whom I completely agree.

  9. My (probably only) Republican friend sent me an email from a "neutral" source tonight that blames the shutdown solely on Obama's shoulders, since the House has the right to determine what they will fund. I sent her the email I got from Bernie Sanders today, which tells it truly.  This whole mess is sickening and real people are suffering.  What will it take for Boehner to really do his job?  Does he even know what his job is, other than pacifying the Koch Brothers?
