I’m writing for tomorrow, day 73,. and yesterday I was still so tired that I slept through the first 3/4 of the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  How impious of me!  Tuesday is a prison volunteer day, and Thursday is a Doctor appointment that will take 6 – 8 hours travel time, so I may be intermittent this week.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:14 (average 5:00).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:From NY Times:

ON the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, Kerry Bentivolio, a Michigan congressman, has a dream, too: to impeach the nation’s first black president.“If I could write that bill and submit it, it would be a dream come true,” the freshman Republican told a local G.O.P. club meeting Monday in Birmingham, Mich., in a video posted on YouTube and reported by BuzzFeed.

Bentivolio graciously conceded that he’d have to come up with some grounds first. “I went back to my office and I have had lawyers come in,” he said. “And these are lawyers, well — Ph.D.’s in history — I said, ‘Tell me how I can impeach the president of the United States. What evidence do you have?’ You’ve got to have the evidence.”…

If he did not already have evidence of an impeachable offense, why should he want to impeach the President?  However, if he wants to file Articles of Impeachment, bring it on! But it’s his OTHER job that really worries me. No way should this vile Teabagger be a Santa Claus!!!

From Alternet: Justice Scalia wonders aloud if citizens should have rocket launchers.

How do you solve a problem like Scalia? The Supreme Court’s most shoot-from-the-hip, right-wing, Tea Partying, really un-judge-like judge mused this week in a speech in Montana about what sort of arms are protected under the Second Amendment. Might “shoulder-fired rocket launchers” be protected? Perhaps, he concluded. Scalia reminded the crowd that the framers of the Constitution put that amendment in there, after all, to preserve the right of the people to revolt against a tyrannical leader.

OK, that’s kind of extreme. Even the gun nuts aren’t making that argument, usually defending their right to bear all kinds of arms for some sort of self-defense against real or imagined criminals…

What a piece of SCROTUS! This is just the first if seven outrageous statements from Republicans in the last week. Click through for the other six.

From Common Dreams:

Defying orders from Russian authorities to stay out, a Greenpeace boat entered the Northern Sea Route off Russia’s coastline Saturday to stage a peaceful protest against dangerous plans on the part of oil giants Rosneft and ExxonMobil to drill near the Russian Arctic National Park.

The entry is a bold challenge to Russia’s collusion with the oil industry—also rampant in the U.S. and across the world—by banning environmental activists and monitors yet welcoming oil drilling exploration vessels with open arms.

“We refuse to let illegal attempts by the Russian government to stop us from exposing dangerous oil drilling in the Arctic," declared Christy Ferguson, Greenpeace Arctic Campaigner aboard the ‘Arctic Sunrise’ Greenpeace ship. "The Russian Arctic National Park is a special place full of rare and threatened Arctic wildlife, and faces an infinitely greater threat from reckless oil companies than a fully equipped Greenpeace icebreaker."…

Kudos to Greenpeace! The people deserve the truth!

  1. Is Congressman Bentivoglio certifiable?  He wants to impeach the President – he has no grounds, but that is his dream.  Reminds me un-nervingly of the man who assassinated John Lennon – just because he wanted people to remember his name!

As for Supreme Court Justice Scalia – what on earth?!  That sounds on the verge of sedition!

Gosh TC – another volunteer day in prison on Tuesday – AND a 6 – 8 hour journey to see the doctor on Thursday – you are utterly amazing!

  2. Sorry –  Congressman Bentivolio…

  3. BENTIVOLIO (in he best Blazing Saddle Mexican bandit accent): Evidence?  We don't need no stinking evidence!

But sorry Kerry, being Black while president is NOT an impeachable offense.  But since that's all you guys got, I guess you'll have to run with it.

  4. So Ted Cruz refused to endorse fellow Texas Rethuglican Sen. John Cornyn’s bid for reelection.

Now we can add "Doesn't play well with others" to Ted's long and disreputable resume.

This guy is such a jerk, I'm starting to doubt he was ever a Canadian to begin with!

  5. How did you do? 5:36

Kudos to Greenpeace! The people deserve the truth!

Screw Russian and big oil…

  6. 3:35 No smelling the flowers with insects on them. You might get stung.

  7. NY Times ~ The nut-jobs are coming out of the woodwork. Nameless is correct! "We don't need no steenking evidence."

Alternet ~ Outrageous isn't quite strong enough for these statements. Everyone should click through and read them all. I hear the same sort of things from some of the people I know.

Common Dreams ~ Kudos to all environventalists for defying these insane orders.

    Cartoon ~ So very true!

  8. Puzzle — 3:52  I sure got stung!

NY Times — Bentivolio is bent, so bent that he belongs in a rubber room!  And that has nothing to do with reindeer.  How the hell did this melon head get elected?  He was a teacher and admitted to bullying students.  Damn good thing he left teaching because he wasn't fit!  And he seems to be doing what all Republicanus/Teabaggers do, including the Reisch Ministry of Propaganda, if the evidence doesn't exist then fabricate it!  And as a congress critter he is not fit either.  When his goal is to impeach the president, he is not working for the people that elected him.

For some of the rodeo clowns clamoring for impeachment around the country, Barack Obama’s real crime is presiding while black.

I couldn't agree more.  What a sad statement that a chunk of the US population has not learned tolerance and acceptance.

Alternet — I read this article yesterday and just shook my head.  Scalia and rocket launchers.  It took me back a few months when a man in Seattle was stopped by police when he came out of a store having just bought a rocket launcher.  He claimed it was his right to bear arms.  The police confiscated it and said they would check it out.  I don't know how it finally turned out — did he get it back or not?  That is frightening and to think an Injustice would muse on such a thing is even scarier.

As to Colorado's Marble, she's lost her marbles.  Typical Republicanus/Teabagger racism.  And Fischer . . . oh how I detest that man and the way he perverts true Christianity with his vile spew!  If the supply side evangelical pseudo Christians feel discriminated, it is only in their own minds.  He has a severe case of projection.  Dean Young is another bigot who needs to go away as is Mike Coffman who thinks that 97% of climate scientists are wrong.  What makes him right? And I won't even get into DeMint and Obamacare.  The bunch are not even fit to use as toilet paper!

Common Dreams — And if there is a spill, how will the Russian government and the companies clean it up? Shell couldn't produce sufficient evidence of its abilities and so moved off from Alaska.  ExxonMobil, who brought us the Exxon Valdez, will fare no better because the Arctic is a different and brutal environment.  We're not talking the Gulf of Mexico here, and look how much damage BP did there.

The Russian government has allowed Rosneft and ExxonMobil to conduct exploratory drilling on 450,000 hectares of park land, in direct contradiction of federal laws that protect the park.

I wonder what the going bribery rate in Russia is?  Certainly no Russian citizen can call Putin on this breach of federal law without risking a trip to the Gulag.  Way to go Greenpeace!

Cartoon — Cute kitty and the sentiment is spot on, but I'd really like to see a mouse or two in a room with that elephant.  I know, mice and elephants is only a myth! . . . but I'd love to see that Republicanus/Teabagger elephant freak out!

  9. I forgot to mention that today is my little girl's, Annie, birthday!  She turned 5, and along with her 2 brothers, just polished off a quarter roast chicken breast, her favourite!  It took half an hour to cut it up because they kept jumping up etc.

Now I get my bits of chicken and corn on the cob.

    • Your cats definitely eat better than mine do.

      • Only on birthdays Thanksgiving and Christmas!  The rest of the time it is kibble and water with some fruit thrown in.

Actually Primo had a bit of cantsloup this evening because I was eating some for desert.

  10. Did most of the nuts go to Michigan?  I can't believe this guy is dumb enough to announce that he wants to impeach the president, but can't find a reason.  I think we all know his reason….. racism.

I read the seven outrageous statements by Republicans. Do they hear themselves talking?  Oh, wait, I have McConnell and Rand as senators, what a dumb question.

    Love the graphic.
