Keystone Delayed

I wish I has a nickel for every time I’ve seen or heard that we have to condemn Barack Obama, because he’s about to approve the Keystone pipeline, ever since 2011.  In spite of ever mounting pressure form Big Oil and their Republican lackeys, he has still nit approved it.  Furthermore, there will apparently be no approval before 2014, if ever.

25no-tar-sandsThe State Department’s decision on the Keystone XL pipeline is in danger of being pushed into 2014.

State’s internal watchdog on Friday said it won’t complete until January a review of allegations that the department hired a contractor with a conflict of interest to review the pipeline project…

…At issue is whether the contractor the department selected to perform a draft environmental review of Keystone had ties to pipeline builder TransCanada Corp.

Pipeline opponents say that firm, Environmental Resources Management (ERM), had previously done consulting work for the pipeline company. They say the review ERM conducted was flawed.

The draft review from ERM said Keystone wouldn’t accelerate growth of Canada’s oil sands, and therefore wouldn’t substantially boost greenhouse gas emissions. It concluded that rail transport and other pipelines would bring the oil sands to market.

That finding has become a flashpoint in the debate over the pipeline in light of President Obama’s June comments that he’d oppose Keystone if it “significantly exacerbates” carbon pollution… [emphasis original]

Good for the League of Conservation voters! The winter before last, I was arguing with lefty friends, who "knew" Obama was about to approve it. Looks like I’ve got bragging rights for another few months, at least. 😉

  1. My, doesn't that Congressman have a limited vocabulary!

I am very glad to see that the protests etc are all having the desired effect, well it seems so for now.  I remember the conflict of interest concerns coming up last year.  It is good that this is being taken to task.

If the Keystone XL does not go through, which of course I will be happy, it will be interesting to see if it garners the spotlight during 2016.  What kind of spin will the Republicanus/Teabaggers put on it?  I guess wait and see.

  2. Uh…..uh……um…..uh……hmmmm……..I stand by my statement in that I miss spoke and I apologized…..translates to….

I do not have a pre-approved RNC/Birther statement/reply to you handy, therefore, I cannot speek for myself and have to give you the standard one-liner I am allowed to give you.

    PATHETIC.

Yes, there WAS a conflict of interest and YES it was patently BS and YES the people/NPO's know it and the Prez knows it. I hope it's delayed forever….as in….never signed and never implemented. It is a desaster waiting to happen….and they know it.

Right, Tom, if we did have a nickel for every time he's demonized and/or condemned for this one thing….we'd be living the high life my friend! 🙂

  3. They are talking out of their bacsides again.

  4. Mr Coffman : "I stand by my statement that I mispoke and I apologize… I stand by my st…." repeat ad nauseam!  (Who was pulling the strings…?  That was fascinating). The Sierra Club and the FoE are right that the firm employed to 'look into' Keystone has indeed got a conflict of information – please stop this environmental disaster in the making now!

  5. Must be the altitude in Colorado, huh?  Or…. could it possibly be $$$$$$$?

  6. Nameless: "Rep. Mike Coffman is a f\/cking idiot and a right-wing a$$hole."

(Oh, for the eloquence of ten thousand tongues like Rep. Coffman.  Thanks to transcripts for the hard of hearing, we can take a closer look:)

TomCat: You know you can’t use language like that on this site

SoINeedAName: I think that… Umm… I stand by my statement that I misspoke and I apologize.

TomCat: OK. And to whom were you apologizing?

SoINeedAName: You know, I stand by my statement that I misspoke and I apologize.

TomCat: You know you post here all the time, you're a very forthcoming guy. Who's telling you not to talk and to handle it like this?

SoINeedAName: I stand by my statement, that I wrote, that you have, and I misspoke and I apologize.

TomCat: Was it that you thought it would go over well on PoliticsPlus where folks are very Liberal, but you'd never say something like that on FreeperVille or Red State?

SoINeedAName: I stand by my statement that I misspoke and I apologize.

TomCat: Is there anything I can ask you that you'll answer differently?

SoINeedAName: You know, I stand by my statement that I misspoke and I apologize.

  7. Congressman Coffman is just another extreme Republican Nut-Job. He takes $300.000 from big oil, a living wage for many working poor people.

  8. Coffman is just another bought and paid for politician who thought he could appeal to his base with his statement and now has been told what to say,  uh uh uh, I stand by my statement, etc.  I hope his electorate sees him for what he is now.

I hope the pipeline is never approved.  It won't benefit our country and will cause massive damage to the environment.
