Writing for tomorrow, day 61, I’m motoring to get ready to leave for my prison volunteer work.  Pardon my brevity.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:08 (average 5:03).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: Mrs. Clinton, in remarks delivered at the American Bar Association conference here, condemned the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Voting Rights Act, which has paved the way for states to pass laws that would require voters to present government-issued photo identification at the polls…

She urged them to fight voter identification laws in their communities, but she also pleaded with the members of a “gridlocked Congress” to quickly enact legislation that would make it easier to vote.

“Our government cannot fully represent the people unless it has been fairly elected by them,” Mrs. Clinton said.

Although she has largely avoided politics since leaving the State Department in February — devoting her time to delivering paid speeches to trade groups and finishing a memoir about her time as the country’s top diplomat — she said Monday that voting rights would be the first of several major issues, including transparency in government and the global impact of the United States’ foreign policy, that she plans to address in the coming weeks.

I fully agree with her. However, in fairness, I must say she has a vested interest here. Her election may well depend on a fair vote, and this does look like the beginning of her Campaign 2016.

From MSNBC: Rachel Maddow about that Republican fringe

Oregon Republicans lead the way too, but in their case, it’s the wrong way. That hateful Art Robinson blew millions of billionaire bucks trying to unseat Peter DeFazio (D-OR), one of Congress’ most progressive voices. The thing to note about the Republican fringe is that they are the same as the Republican mainstream.

From Right Wing Watch: Rick Santorum says the term “middle class” is “Marxism talk” since America doesn’t have any classes.

Saying America has no classes, which, by the way, Republicans are striving to set in stone, is like saying there is no climate change. Rick "Google Me" Santorum has earned his name again.

  1. Santorum's talk saying there is 'no class' in America does indeed sound like marxism – as in marxism all were technically equal – except of course for the powerful!  Mind you, I can see every commentator remarking that RS has no class at all!  (Sorry – couldn't resist!).

Rachel Maddow – Art Robinson says nuclear waste should be used as insulation in homes – *uck a duck!!!  His newsletter is barkingly insane – how on earth can Oregon elect him as chairman of their GOP – help!  Every time Mr Robinson was quoted verbatim from the newsheet he screamed repeatedly that Rachel Maddow was lying – but those were his words quoted from his own newsheet!  That Kool-aid has really rotted his brain!

    • Pat, Republicans have no class.  One class, the super-rich, has Republicans.

You're absolutely right, but I don't volunteer to be their duck! 😉

  2. 3:25  Is this time a real winner or just a reflecion of what could have been?

  3. NY Times ~ Bottom line is we need a fair vote, not a RepubuliCon fixed vote. That is exactly what they are trying to do and SCROTUS is helping them.

MSNBC ~ The "fringe" is running the GOP right now and most non-political people don't realize it.

Right Wing Watch ~ Santorum said "America has no class", not classes.                                                                    I say Santorum has no class along with having diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain.

Cartoon ~ Happy Birthday Social Security! Be strong and survive forever.

  4. Puzzle — 3:26 I don't think you could ever be just a reflection of what you could have been Jerry! You're the real McCoy!

NY Times — I agree with you TC that Clinton has a vested interest in the fairness of the vote, but so do all Democrats since it is the traditional base of the Democrats that the Republicanus/Teabaggers are trying to disenfranchise.  Does seem she is ramping up an, as of yet, unofficial campaign.

MSNBC — In that cover, Louie Goh-merde does look like Gomer Pyle.  I liked Gomer, I don't like Goh-merde! The fringe need their wings severely clipped.  Certified nut jobs!  Nuclear waste in the ocean? . . . or used as insulation in buildings?  I think this guy is already practising what he preaches!

Right Wing Watch — "Google Me" Santorum hasn't changed much since departing the Republicanus/Teabagger presidential primary!  Still as rabid as ever and twice the obnoxious nit-wit.  Personally I prefer the term lower and middle income earners.  I wonder how he would respond to that?

But Republicanus/Teabaggers "are the party that believes in the dignity of every human life"?  Right. . . that's why they would do away with SS, Medicare, Medicaid, foodstamps, minimum wage.  Need I go on?  And what about slashing taxes for the wealthy while increasing taxes for low and middle income earners as the Republicanus/Teabaggers like Santorum propose?  That is creating a socio-economic divide, a class system that he says does not exist.  He is using the canard 'Marxism' but has no idea what he is spouting (as usual!) and only serves to stir people up.

Damn! . . . shorted out my keyboard hurling from his remarks!  He belongs in a rubber room where he can't do any harm!

Cartoon — Live long and prosper SSA!

    • The real Cruncheroo!!

All Americans.  For their own good, Baggers have a vested interest in losing.  They are just too brainwashed to know it.

I think class is a more appropriate term, because Republicans have stifled financial mobility with barriers to entry to higher earning levels.  Were this not true, income level would be correct. They are trying to make caste the correct term!  I agree with everything else you said.

      I don't blame you!

      Amen!

  5. I hope Mrs. Clinton does run and become the first woman President.  I think she can take the Tea baggers out of the picture.

Sorry, TC that you have a nut in Oregon almost as bad as Rand Paul.

Rick Santorum is wrong. There are two classes in America, thanks to the Republicans, the 1% who have all the wealth and pay hardly any taxes, and the rest of us who are trying to survive.

Glad you had such a good day with your guys at the prison.

    • Edie, it worries me that, if Hillary does win, lefties will become more disallusioned with Democrats, as she is more conservative than Obama ever thought of being.  Nevertheless, she id far superior to whatever miscreant the Republicans put up.

      See my reply to Lynn.

Every state has them.  We kept him out of office. 🙂

      Thanks!

  6. How did you do? 5:45

Rick Santorum says the term “middle class” is “Marxism talk” since America doesn’t have any classes.

Should have said We'll let them have what's left over after we gouge profits…
