Writing for day 39, I’m sad to report that the cool spell lasted just one day, but it has stayed cloudy today, so far, so maybe the weatherman will be wrong again.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:29 (average 5:42).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Opponents of Florida’s Stand Your Ground law are attempting to mobilize support for a new law called Don’t Shoot Me for Absolutely No Reason.

The proposed law, which faces major opposition in the Florida legislature, would make it illegal for people in the state to shoot each other for no reason whatsoever.

“Under the provisions of Don’t Shoot Me for Absolutely No Reason, you will be required to have an actual reason for shooting someone,” said a spokesman for the measure, Harland Dorrinson. “This will be a first in Florida.”

The controversial bill has already drawn the ire of the National Rifle Association, which issued a statement today saying that requiring someone to have a reason to shoot another person would violate the Second Amendment…

Andy’s Satire is almost too close to true to be humor.

From Truthdig: It looks like The New York Times will have a major hole to fill for its coverage of the 2014 midterm elections. That’s because election forecaster extraordinaire Nate Silver is reportedly packing up his FiveThirtyEight blog and taking it over to ESPN, according to the Times’ Brian Stelter. The media reporter says he learned of Silver’s departure from a source at the sports network. Stelter also reports that Silver informed the Times on Friday of his decision to leave.

In addition to number-crunching and writing columns, Silver is expected to be a regular contributor on “Olbermann,” a new program hosted by former “Sportscenter” anchor and MSNBC host Keith Olbermann that’s set to debut on ESPN2 next month. He will also factor in ABC News’ political coverage during election years. Both ESPN and ABC News are owned by Disney.

That is a huge loss for the Times. In 2012, He was the only major prognosticator to out perform me. I missed one state in the Presidential race and one Senate race. He got them all!  On the plus side, I will sure listen to what he says about fantasy football!

From MSNBC: House Takes 39th Vote on Obamacare.

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Republicans will not be able to stop Obamacare no matter how many $millions of taxpayers dollars they waste on go-nowhere votes such as this. Voters need to remove them, because refusing to govern is anti-American sedition.

Republicans probably want to reserve them for the 1% only.

  1. Seriously TC, isn't there SOME regulation/law somewhere that the Far Right can be prosecuted under for wasting so much of the govts time and money on THIRTY NINE attempted repeals of Obamacare – thirty eight of which have failed – at a conservative estimate of a million dollars a time!  Doesn't wasting the govts time and money 39 times in a row constitute sedition?  They are trying (and succeeding) to gum up the machinery of govt and don't care who they hurt.

  2. 5:16 I was in quite a pickle on this one.

  3. New Yorker ~ Andy at his finest! LOL

TruthDig ~ Whatever will the Times do? Hey, Tom! No fair. I was counting on his prognostications for Fantasy Football. I'm new at this game.

MSNBC ~ Why on Earth are the members of the House still being paid? We have never had such a Do-Nothing, Waste-Time Congress in history.

Cartoon ~ A great day for the world! I shall celebrate in regal dairy style with an ice cream cone for my lunch today.

    The 112th wan't so much either….

  5. So sorry your cool spell didn't last.

Loved the New Yorker piece, wish Floridians would read it.

I along with millions of others am so disgusted with this Congress.   I watched Boehner on Bob Shiefer Sunday morning, he didn't answer a single question except about Obama care.

The graphic looks just like my Rusty who crossed the rainbow bridge last July.  Still miss him.

    • Thanks Edie.  I remember no other summer so relentless here.

      Me too.

Of course he has nothing to say.

      I'm sorry, Edie.

  6. Puzzle — 4:19  I've never been a big pickle fan but this was almost too much green for me!

The New Yorker — I wish Andy would do a series on Canada's political shenanigans, but I guess we're just too damn boring.  Love me some AB.

Truthdig — Here's your opportunity to go big time and put the Republicanus/Teabaggers in their place — 6 feet under politically speaking.  You would be able to educate the "unwashed masses" aka Faux Noise sheeple, and get paid too!  If you did, I'd even subscribe to the NY Times on-line edition!

MSNBC — I loved that Obama said: "Maybe they think it is good politics, but part of our job here is not to always think about politics.  Part of our job here is to get work done on behalf of the American people."  Never were words more true.  The Republicanus/Teabaggers don't give a rat's ass about the 99%.

And Boehner . . . what a boner!  "We should be judged on the number of laws we repeal."

Wasn't it Einstein that said "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

With the implementation problems that have lead to a delay in the implementation of PART of Obamacare, I venture to say that had the Republicanus/Teabaggers not been so obstructionist, there may not have been a need for the delay.  If everybody would pull together for the people, I think they would be on target.  To me, this is an example of "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely!"  It is the Republicanus/Teabaggers who are corrupted by their lust for power and greed.

Cartoon — I celebrated the birth of the ice cream cone today by having one after my physio visit.  And I did NOT share it with my fur kids! (despite their drooling!)

Personal — Today would have been my father's 87th birthday.  I was stunned when I realised that he died 6 years ago 03 June 2007.  How time has flown!  No sadness, just a reality that hit me.

    • A win for you!

He'd have to be polite. 😉

Of that, there is no doubt.

Hey!  We cats dserrve our cut!!

I bet you miss him.  Hugs.
