I love Bill Maher’s irreverent humor, even when I disagree with him, so I bring him to you every chance I get.  I hope this video will last.  Enjoy!

Maher

Bill Maher bemoaned the resurgence of the "smart stupid person" during his New Rules segment on Real Time this Friday evening. After explaining that this is nothing new, Maher ran down the recent list which includes the like of Dr. Ben Carson, who is a brilliant surgeon, but also believes the earth is 6000 years old, likened homosexuality to bestiality and said the Bible calls for a flat tax.

And then there’s Antonin Scalia, Ted Cruz and Bobby Jindal, who are all, as Maher described them, accomplished scholars on the outside, and a creamy layer of Michele Bachmann on the inside.

Maher wrapped things up by going after the "know-nothing" doctors like Scott DesJarlais, Paul Broun and Tom Coburn, who as Maher noted, are OBGYN’s but "know nothing about reproduction." He wasn’t through with the list of wingnut OBGYN’s yet though. He went on to go after Ron Paul, Michael Burgess, and last but not least, Phil Gingrey…

Maher is still funny as hell, but I have to disagree on one point. Republican Leaders are not as stupid as they appear. They act that way, because only people that are stupid can be convinced to vote for them.

  1. Just goes to show that education should not be confused with intelligence.  These idiots may be highly educated but they don't know how to apply the knowledge properly.  And in these cases, it is the criminal twisting and bastardisation of the knowledge affecting many, many other people that has become their hallmark. They prey on others, like some of the US electorate who are easily lead, sheeple.

To rewrite a well known phrase, 'those that can't do, go into politics.'

    Good clip from Maher.

    • I agree.  There is a lot of difference between knowledge and wisdom.

    • Excuse me Lynn but apparently you have not read all of the lead in, including the sentence just above your post.  These people are not stupid but they do know how to play to their base, the Goobers.  You know, the ones that never finished high school, never passed 8th grade science, spend all their free time attending their local Southern Baptist bible classes and speak primarily in quotes from the bible (taken out of context and mis understood).    They know they're talking to the idiots because even some of the elected republicans are starting to call their party the "Stupid" party.

      • Welcome Ken. πŸ™‚

I think Lynn was expandiong on what I said.  Not to equate the Republican leadership with the stupidity they spew to draw sheeple is a warning I have given here often.

  2. lol thanks Tom

I think I somewhat agree with you. Some of them are much smarter than they appear and only act that way to appeal to certain voters.

  4. If Maher ran for office, I'd vote for him.  Agree with him or not, at least you can believe what he says.

  5. 7/19/13?!?

A heads-up: Mr. Peabody and Sherman are considering suing you over use of their WABAC Machine.

  6. I almost always agree with Maher. I have a friend who was salutatorian of our graduating class, received numerous scholarships to excellent schools, while also playing football and being a concert pianist. He belongs to the Tea Party. Go figure!  I won't give up on him, I keep sending him emails that challenge his concepts and he does the same to me.  We never argue, just discuss.

    • As frustrating as that can be, friends lioke that can be valuable, because they demonstrate the intellectual two-step they do in support of InsaniTEA.

  7. Oh dear – I wonder if Patty is right – certainly we could tell when George W was doing his' foot in mouths' deliberately by the gleam in his eyes.  Do you remember when he did one in front of the Queen at some official function and he got the date of the American Revolution wrong – then the Queen looked at him (we only saw the back of her head as she turned to look at him) and he fell about laughing and said that she 'had given him a look only a mother could give a child' – seems she knew what he was doing!

Lynn is right – there is an immense difference between knowledge and wisdom!
