I’m writing early.  Tomorrow will be day 10.  The battle continues.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:56 (average 4:58).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: The most shameful achievement of the House Republican majority has been the elimination of $1.5 trillion in discretionary spending through 2022, which has already held back the economy from substantial growth and done real damage to people and communities that depend on government dollars. The widespread pain caused by this year’s sequester is the best-known aspect of these cuts, but caps that will continue to limit virtually every program for nine more years will also be extremely harmful.

Republicans, though, still aren’t satisfied, and are continuing their campaign to radically reshape Washington’s relationship to the country. The 2014 spending bills now emerging from the House Appropriations Committee are worse than in any previous year and would make some programs and departments unrecognizable…

…House Republicans, of course, have decided to exceed the caps for their favorite programs. They want to give the Pentagon a 5.4 percent increase — $26 billion it doesn’t need — along with a 3.3 percent raise to Homeland Security. To pay for that, and still shrink the budget, they are demanding severe cuts from spending bills for which they have little use: nearly 19 percent out of the labor, health and education bill; 15 percent from the financial services oversight bill; 14 percent from the interior and environment bill; and 11 percent from the energy and water bill.

Those percentages, just to be clear, represent cuts below this year’s already ruinous sequester levels… [emphasis added]

That is Republican class warfare: more for greed, NOTHING for need!

LOL! This is hilarious! Sadly it will have little effect, because even Republican skientists don’t believe science is real.

From Huffington Post: Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said he thought House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) might be at risk of losing his leadership role because of the battle over immigration.

During an appearance on Fox News Thursday [ReichsNoise delinked]with Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), host Sean Hannity asked if either Gohmert or King would consider challenging Boehner’s speakership if he chooses to push a controversial immigration bill through the House…

As much as I hate to side with Agent Orange on anything, with Louie ‘Go-Go Goose-step’ Gohmert as Speaker for a month, we would not have a country to win back.

  1. Argh!  Honestly TC – frightening me at this time of the morning!  Henry VIII (or Henry the psychopath as I think of him) and his father put back justice and women's rights – and parliamentary rights too – in favour of a total rule by fear by the king and his vile minions.  Historians are just realising (and proving) that Henry VIII wasn't just a terror to live with (if you survived) but to everyone in the country.  It just shows what the glow of well written words can do for a regime of fear – I love Shakespeare – but as a spin doctor he had no peer, and is single handedly responsible for the fact that people think Tudor England was a good place to be.  We had more rights under the medieval rulers – showing yet again that progress is often two steps forward, one step back.

The video is funny and horrifying all at once – the Repuglicons are sooo unpleasant – and patently trying to compensate for failings in their own lives by projecting nastiness onto others – 'legitimate rape' my ar**!  Grrr!

  2. I hope this asshat runs for president.  He's as crazy as Michelle Bachman – and somebody needs to step up to the plate to fill those very large clown shoes of hers now that she is gone.

  3. To think that the country is being "saved" by Boehner — so the Russians were the "reds" – now I guess the US is the "oranges" – how comforting!

  4. 3:57 I guess your jet is a tad faster than mine.

Have you noticed how your times have improved greatly since you're winning the war against cigarettes?

  5. NY Times ~ In their war against the middle class, they won't be anywhere near satisfied until we are all gone. They will reinstitute slavery and God help us all.

MSNBC ~ Scary that some of them are even Doctors!

HuffPo~ "Gag me" Gohmert is doing everything in his ower to destroy this country. He would like nothing better than to have a position with evem more power than he already has. Destruction would come faster.

Cartoon ~ I wonder if Louie "Gag me" Gohmert has a crown like Henry VIII that he wears in front of the mirror while he issues fake decrees…

  6. Puzzle — 3:32 Up, up and away!  Look at it this way guys, just like when ducks and geese fly in 'V' formations, those not in the front get a lift from the front runner.

NY Times — Does a leopard change its spots?

They [GOP] want to give the Pentagon a 5.4 percent increase — $26 billion it doesn’t need — along with a 3.3 percent raise to Homeland Security. …

But Republicans in both chambers have ignored all entreaties from the White House and the Senate to sit down and negotiate.

The White House, urging compromise, has threatened to veto any Republican spending bill outside of a negotiated budget agreement that increases vital investments. The House, apparently, would rather drag the country through yet another budget showdown.

The Republican/Teabaggers refer to themselves as fiscal conservatives.  I was going to call the Republican/Teabaggers fiscal morons, but to me they are better described as fiscal terrorists, ready to sacrifice the country on the altar of conservative ideology.

MSNBC — I must say that Karen Finney was amusing but I seriously doubt that the Republican/Teabaggers would understand it!  One needs to have a working brain but I don't think that they meet that basic requirement.  After all, a working brain needs oxygen which is sent to the brain through the blood pumped by the heart.  They have already proven that they don't have a heart!

Huffington Post — Goh-merde is an idiot.  I think he would be like the idiot president of the Wisconsin Senate who just about blew a gasket recently and almost brke his gavel.  The US is already a laughing stock when it comes to federal politics.  Goh-merde would take it down further.

Cartoon — Yeah!  Use them, abuse them, and then get rid of them!

    • Bigfooted and 3rd.

They want to 'conserve' two things: 1% inequity and their own power.

      Exactly!

      Amen!

      That's the GOP way.

  7. Too bad this video won't be seen by the Repubs who are determined to put women back 100 years!
