I understand that there are places in the Bible that, out of context with the rest of the Bible, make it appear that wives should be submissive to their husbands.  If that’s the way a woman and her husband want to live their lives, I respect that.  However Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christianity has come up with a new one that I can hardly believe, let alone respect.

It’s just because their husbands love them, and want them to be perfect for Jesus!

On a pain scale of one to 10, Chelsea ranks the epidural-free birth of her child as a six. Her husband’s spankings? Those are an eight.

First, he uses his hands for “warm-up” slaps. Then comes a combination of tools based on the specific infraction. The wooden spoon is the least severe; for the worst rule-breaking—like texting while driving (“It could kill me,” Chelsea admits) or moving money between accounts without his permission—she’ll be hit with something else: a hairbrush, a paddle, or a leather strap.

But this isn’t domestic abuse, Chelsea says. This is for Jesus.

Chelsea and her husband Clint, who asked that I use only their first names, belong to a small subculture of religious couples who practice “Christian Domestic Discipline,” a lifestyle that calls for a wife to be completely submissive to her husband. Referred to as CDD by its followers, the practice often includes spanking and other types corporal punishments administered by husbands—and ostensibly ordained by God.

Even using the same references that call for obedience, this cannot stand  “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it”  Ephesians 5:25 (KJV) I suppose that for some pseudo-Christians, the love of Republican Supply-side Jesus (NOT the real Jesus) means lock-step obedience or get the crap beaten out of you, but I see it as one small part of the Republican War on Women, given its ties to white nationalism.

  1. This is extraordinary in how openly aberrational it is.  And they're claiming that this is what God wants, just to add insult to the injuries.  So sad.  I hope all of these women get the strength and clarity of mind to see through this for what it is and LEAVE before they are really hurt.

  2. Why not call a spade a spade?  These couples are a masochist and a sadist who have (fortunately it seems – well, so far) married each other!  Why don't they use the rest of the Old Testament and have slaves, sell their daughters into marriage without consulting them – and observe the dietary laws and over 600 laws?  Because they are sadist and masochist together, that's why – religion is merely being used as an excuse!  If you disagree tell me where Christ said that a husband should terrorise his wife or children.

  3. Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene.
Jesus respected and loved Mary so much that he left her to take charge of his teachings.
Peter stepped in, in a jealous pique, and took over "the Church".
Jesus was an early feminist and supported them, the women.

I seriously doubt that Jesus would have tolerated what the "Book of Bible" teaches today
ever since the Nicene Council voted on what would be and not be part of the Bible in the 3rd century.

    And so on and on.

The "Christian Right", supply-side Jesus freaks, g o p pukes have got everything wrong in this instance.

    .

    • Jim, while all the evidence I have seen, the sangreal doctrine you describe did not even surface until over 200 yeats after Jesus' death, but I agree that Nicea did nclude some questionable documents.

  4. One thing that I have noticed over and over again is that the right wing evangelical pseudo Christians are always quoting the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament).  Comparatively rare are their quotes from the Christian Scriptures (New Testament).  If they did read the Christian Scriptures, they would be familiar with the quote from Ephesians.

And what about when the 'man' is caught doing something wrong like texting while driving?  That is OK?  If you listen to Pat Robertson . . . God forbid . . . if a husband looks to other than his wife for his physical comforts, then it is her fault.

CDD is nothing more than sharia law!  And for all their fearmongering about sharia law, it is already in the US under the pseudo Christian banner as CDD.

Interesting too that the greatest commandment of the Bible contained in Matthew 22:36-40, is also recorded in the Hebrew Scriptures in Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus  19:18.  I guess the pseudo Christians missed that because it does not serve their purpose.

    "Matthew 22:36-40

    New International Version (NIV)

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

[Deut. 6:5 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.]

38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

[Lev. 19:18 18 “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.]

40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”"

I am not preaching here but rather trying to show that the right wing fanatical evangelical pseudo Christians make a mockery of real Christianity.

True Christianity is about love, compassion, mercy and respect.  But people have too often put their own spin on it and perverted it.

Right wing fanatical evangelical pseudo Christians = Christian Taliban with their own Sharia Law aka CDD.

    • Are you being disrespectful of the "Lord"? – Frankly I can't tolerate any religion in the discussion of anything that is "relevant" either to "marriage" or " government" – oh well—-

      • No Lee.  Just can't abide cafeteria Christians that use that cafeteria to "pollute".  I think you know this already buddy, but I have great respect for people of all faiths, including agnostics and atheists (some of my best friends are atheist – put yourself in there).  My bug a boo is when others try to foist their religion on others against their will.

    • Exactly Lynn.  If we love God and love our neighbor, that fulfills the entire OT.

  5. You gotta wonder if this brand of Teabangelical christianism creates such gullible people … or just merely attracts them.

  6. I agree with Pat; I think they're just two kinky people enjoying kinky sex. The religion provides good cover.

  7. I am dumbfounded that any woman would puy up with this.  I am also sickened by the people who take one verse from the bible to prove whatever their off the wall theory is,

    • Every text has an immedfiate context, the context of ther Bible as a whole, a cultural context, and a natural context.  Text without context is pretext.

  8. They use the Bible and Jesus as an excuse.
