last night my fever broke again for the third time.  I hope it stays down.  I’m drinking lots of fluids, dosing heavily with C, and except for feeding myself and this limited effort, staying in bed.  Soon, I hope.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:52 (average 4:50).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Alternet: $16 billion.

That’s how much JPMorgan Chase has paid in fines, settlements and other litigation expenses in the last four years alone.

More than half of that amount, $8.5 billion, was paid out in fines and settlements as the result of illegal actions taken by bank executives.

$8.5 billion is almost 12 percent of the net income the mega-bank brought in during the same period.

12% is certainly low enough portion of net profit, that it can only encourage more criminal conduct from Banksters.

From Common Dreams:

In a 62-37 vote late Friday, the US Senate passed a non-binding amendment calling for the approval of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.

I’m glad I live in Oregon! If you own any of the Democrats bolded in red, please tear them a new lower orifice.  Of course, I don’t have to tell you that every Republican goose-stepped in lock-step for Big Dirty Oil.

From Crooks and Liars: The sheer volume of recent wing nut quotes has forced most thinking Americans to adjust their Sanity-Preserve-O-Meter’s from "Keep Calm" to "Stun". And they probably didn’t even see what we saw. Absurdity Today, Julianna Forlano’s satiric news parody, serves up what you missed, with a side of sense.

The commentator was brilliant, but not so the Republicans. They proved the 11th Commandment. Thou shalt not commit TEAbuggery!

  1. 3:49 I barely beat you. Let's see if Lynn or Jerry horns into first place.

    • 3:51  Well I guess I headbutted Jerry (no wonder I have a killer headache today), nudged TC, couldn't catch Patty.  Sigh . . .

  2. 4:13  I got headbutted to the side whenTomCat and Patty rammed their way ahead of me.

  3. Puzzle — 3:51  Well I guess I headbutted Jerry (no wonder I have a killer headache today), nudged TC, couldn't catch Patty.  Sigh . . .

Alternet — At 12% of profit it is a pittance and has allowed Jamie Dimon to continue his wreckless behaviour.  I guess not only do the executives have no scruples, morals or ethics, neither do many of the stockholders who enjoy the ill-gotten gains.  Personally I would be very annoyed at paying $16 billion in fines etc, but then measured against the gains . . . well . . .sigh!  My managers have always told me I have a very high level of  ethics and integrity.  Now you know why, relatively speaking, I am as poor as a church mouse.

Common Dreams — Fortunately this is a non-binding vote which to me sounds like a colossal waste of time and money.  On the other hand, it also shows who the oil company lackeys are in the Democratic caucus.  Of course, some like McCaskill and Landrieu were to be expected.  Imagine the good that these lobbying funds could do in clean energy exploration, even though it is a drop in the bucket comparatively to what is needed.  But it also occurs to me that the taxpayers are the ones paying these payoffs to legislators since the oil companies get such huge subsidies and such low tax bills, if any.  Shouldn't that be illegal?!

A post-vote analysis by Oil Change International, … the researchers found that supporters took an average of $499,648 from the industry before voting for the pipeline, for a total of $30,978,153.

And this other matter, an amendment in the budget bill is very worrying to me as it appears to show that the oil friendly legislators are trying to do an end-run around the constitutional process.

Senator John Hoeven (R-North Dakota) has slipped into the budget resolution a proposal for an amendment that would claim Congress has the authority to approve the Keystone XL pipeline over the Executive branch.

The amendment would be largely symbolic, as it could not effectively supersede the powers of the State Department to approve or deny the pipeline, but …

"I think it will get him (Obama) to approve [the pipeline] and if he doesn't, I think it will help us to get it done congressionally," Hoeven said.

Would this kind of BS be considered seditious?  Certainly these legislators, in my opinion, are thwarting the will of the people.  May these asswipes rot in pergatory, before or after they are defeated at the next opportunity and replaced by people who care and won't be bought.  Time to take the money out of politics, globally!  (I'm still pissed that the NRA has involved itself in Canadian affairs at the invitation of the chie harlot, Harper!)

Crooks and Liars — Funny and spot on!  There is one way to keep the 11th commandment:  Don't elect Republican/Teabaggers to Congress or anything else!  Although it won't completely fix things in the teabuggery world, it will really, really fix most of the problems.

Cartoon — Interesting article in Wikipedia about this line.  It seems it may have been borrowed from the Roman, Cato, but has also spawned many other references including a more recent one from PR China. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Give_me_Liberty,_or_give_me_Death!

  4. Alternet ~ They weren't fined anywhere near enough money. It has to hurt to work.

Common Dreams ~ Both my Senators were Nay-sayers to the XL Pipeline.

Crooks and Liars ~ I loved her commentary. Never heard of her before but look forward to more from her enlightened mind.

I enjoyed this on the Op-Edsection of my local paper today and want to share it with you.

Cartoon ~ There are many in the Insani-Tea Party who deserve the ultimate penalty for being traitors instead of the patriots they pretend to be.
