They Need a NOs Job

Senate Democrats continue to attempt to craft common sense firearms legislation, designed to keep guns out of the hands of people forbidden to have them, outlaw military weapons that have no valid sporting use, and outlaw huge clips without interfering with the responsible use of firearms.  The Republican Party continues to be part of the problem.  They need a NOs job.

15GOPGunsThree months after the Newtown, Conn., school massacre, the Senate Judiciary Committee has finally produced three major bills that could each make a significant difference in lowering the number and firepower of guns on the street and keeping them out of the wrong hands. But they have a deeply uncertain future as they head to the Senate floor, underscored by the utterly partisan split in the committee votes.

A bill to ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines: 10 Democrats voted yes, eight Republicans voted no. A bill to require background checks on buyers in all gun sales, including from private sellers: 10 Democrats voted yes, eight Republicans voted no. A bill to stop illegal trafficking of firearms: 10 Democrats and one Republican voted yes, seven Republicans voted no.

Many Republicans claim to share the national concern over unabated violence, but, as the committee hearings showed, whenever there is an opportunity to do something about it, they find a way to object… [emphasis added]

Rachel Maddow’s analysis last night was stunning!

On a scale of one to ten, where one is low, and ten is high, Ted Cruz is a condescending asshole. All of the rights in the Bill of Rights are subject to exception, when the abuse of those rights, directly interferes with the rights of another.

I have to ask one thing. What possible need did the shooter’s mother have for an AR-15 Bushmaster and several 30 round banana clips? While I am sensitive to her loss and her pain, why shouldn’t she be responsible for failing to secure that weapon to keep it out of the hands of her dangerous son? In addition, the Republican Party needs to take responsibility for blocking the renewal of the law that would have kept that weapon out of the hands of the shooter. Instead, they have refused to cast even one vote on support of two these three needed measures, and only one in support of the third.  Again, they need a NOs job.

  1. God bless Rachel Maddow and Senator Dianne Feinstein!  "There are 2,271 weapons exempted by their legislation – isn't that enough for the people in the United States?!  Do they need a bazooka?!"  She is so right – and Petulant Cruz just made himself look stupid – and deeply deeply patronising!  Why did the mother of the Sandy Hook shooter buy that assault weapon and ammunition?  WHY?!  That sounds exceedingly odd!  Rachel Maddow is right that the old bill that used to be law would have made the Sandy Hook shootings so much more difficult and less likely – and it should be reintroduced.

  2. Cruz is the most disgusting excuse for a real man   I have seen in a long time ; I usually hesitate to blame "Mom" for the behavior of adults , howver exceptions are in order- ' Mom" obviously failed to teach her little twirp basic respect for his betters as well as good manners — Sonny wants to make a name for himself– ! Certainly is doing that isnt he

? Agree with Pat A– TG for Rachel and Senator Feinstein-

  3. I wonder if Republican/Teabaggers include Cruz in their list of "up and coming young stars" in the party like they do Lyin' Ryan and Rubio?  If so, they have a real problem!  And that's an understatement because words fail me!

Rachel Maddow has enumerated new details of the Sandy Hook murders that have emerged as a result of the investigation and they give more creedance to the re-instatement of an assault weapon ban and large magazine ban. No one is proposing taking away all weapons and all ammunition.  No one is proposing rescinding the 2nd amendment, no matter what the fool and dangerous NRA lackeys say.  So why does a senator like Cruz insist on trying to tie the ban to restricting the 1st and 4th amendments?  I wonder if he realises that there are books that various states, Republican/Teabagger states, have banned.  Is that not restricting the 1st amendment or is it ok because it was done by a Republican/Teabagger?  And wasn't there a great controversy over warrantless searches and surveillance during the Baby Bush reign of terror?  Ted Cruz (R-TX) proves himself to be an uneducated grandstanding idiot.  TC, I would have put him at a -50 on a scale of 1 to 10!

Rachel Maddow "Everybody says the politics of this are impossible.  Why should they be?"

Indeed, why should they be?  There are two reasons I can see. The first, Republican/Teabaggers are obstructionists of the greatest magnitude and would see this as obstructing the POTUS.  Second, Republican/Teabaggers legislate at the behest of a very few elites, one of which is the NRA who represents the weapons industry.

TC — " While I am sensitive to her loss and her pain, why shouldn’t she be responsible for failing to secure that weapon to keep it out of the hands of her dangerous son? "

Personally, she had no use for such a weapon and so much ammunition and was in my view responsible for the safe storage of the weapon.  She failed that responsibilityand as such failed the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary.  But she is in no pain since she was the first one that Lanza shot and killed. (unless something has changed that I don't know about.)

  4. I really liked it when Diane Feinstein put Ted Cruz in his place. Even Joe Scarborough questioned his sanity this week. I wonder if Cruz knows what the Constitution actually says about the Right to bear arms.

    10…
