Yesterday I almost missed my doctor’s appointment.  My MAX train could not cross the Willamette River, because the Steel Bridge would not lock down properly, after being raised to allow a ship to pass.  I had to leave the train and catch a bus that crossed using a different bridge.  Fortunately the doctor was understanding when I called and said to come again.  It’s such an improvement for my foot to be out of pain.  I’m current with replies.  Today is a prison volunteer day, and I will not return home until late, having missed sleep.  Therefore tomorrow expect only an Open Thread.

Short Takes:

From MoveOn: Al Gore Uses Song To Teach Us A Few Things About A Climate On The Brink

There’s no more to say. Reality must take precedence over InsaniTEA.

From NY Times: For Mr. McCain and Mr. Graham, the loss of Mr. Lieberman, a Democrat turned independent who is the chairman of the homeland security committee, goes beyond personal deprivation and could profoundly affect their ability to influence foreign policy. Though he frustrated many Democrats with his interventionist ideas, Mr. Lieberman gave Mr. McCain and Mr. Graham, both Republicans, a veneer of bipartisanship that lent credibility to their policy goals.

Bipartisan?!!? You can fertilize your veggies with that load. LIEberscum was a Republican even before Connecticut voters prevented him from running as a Democrat. Traitor Joe will be replaced by a real Democrat.

From CBS: Congress returns to work in Washington this week with a to-do list worthy of an overworked single mom.

They’re back?!!? AAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!! 🙁

  1. Puzzle — 5:14 Oh my!  Tumeric (which I think is the primary colour here) is not one of my favourite spices.  Second try was 4:29 but I still don't care for tumeric!

MoveOn — I found myself caught up in the mechanics of the video (singing when they are really not singing) that I had to listen to the video a 2nd time.  Reality is the climate is changing predominately because of our wayward ways.  And it is up to ALL of us to change, including the dinosaur climate change deniers.  One thing for the Republican/Teabaggers, how will they make their precious money if climate change destroys the planet?

NY Times — You know, the term 'bipartisan' should carry a numeric qualifier like " all the Republicans plus 40% of the Democrats" or vice versa in order to qualify as bipartisan.  This BS of 1 opponents making something bipartisan is just simple bear scat!  As to McCain and Graham, maybe they will implode now and start working for the people, and not themselves.  There is always hope, but I'm not prepared to hold my breath over this one.

CBS — "Congress returns to work in Washington this week with a to-do list worthy of an overworked single mom." — Congress and work is an oxymoron!  The Republican/Teabaggers don't have a to-do list, they have a to-obstruct list!

Cartoon — The UK was awash in Catholic-Protestant conflict for centuries since Henry VIII told the Vatican to take a hike.  To say the British – Irish problems are about religion is wrong but that seemed to be the point that comes up most often.  But if the Irish and Brits can find some common ground in their centuries old dispute, so can the Palestinians and the Israelis.

    • Beat me!

Their greed is surpassed only by their incompetence.

Excellent idea, but I have never seen the Democratic leadership call a vote bipartisan, based on one Republican.

      Bingo!!!

      My point, exactly.

  2. 5:20  So far, Lynn is the spicy one today.  (4:18 on try two).  Shall we call it a tie, Lynn?  🙂

  3. MoveOn ~ They did that quite well. Shades of Peter Frampton!

NY Times ~ It doesn't matter what Droopy Dawg, (Joe) thinks or says. McConJob and his trusty sidekick will not back down from their opposition to Susan Rice. Now if it was Condie Rice, they'd be tripping all over themselves to be first in line to endorse her.

CBS ~ They should continue to work as hard as they have for the past 2 years and do absolutely nothing. Let the Bush cuts expire and allow all the other cuts to happen. SS, Medicare and Medicaid will not be affected.

"But taxes are not the only elephant in the room in regard to the "fiscal cliff": it also includes $1.2 trillion (over 10 years) in automatic cuts to domestic and defense spending that would impact every government program except for Social Security, Medicaid and most of Medicare. Both sides agree that federal spending can be reduced, but the debate over the specifics of what to cut promises to be just as difficult of a negotiation as taxes."

    • Indeed.

      Your statement was prophetic.

      That works for me.

Still, sequestration can be undone retroactively.  Most fiscal cliff items will not effect Main Street Americans in any way for almost a year.

  4. Speaking as one who knows – anyone Welsh is likely to have a coronary when looking at that map and seeing bits of Wales included in with bits of England – heresy!  We need more tolerance everywhere in the world – and so we need to stand up and be counted at all times and in all places against the Far Right and its reliance on Jingoism and Chauvinism!
