I’m rushing this morning to try to get everything done before leaving for volunteer work in prison.  I;m current with replies, albeit very briefly.  Tomorrow it is probable that I will have only an Open Thread, because I will be overtired after today.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:05 (average 5:12).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

From MoveOn: COLBERT: ‘A _ _ Off A Raccoon That Drowned In Your Birdbath’ Is Preferable To Papa Johns

I would happily pay 11 to 14 cents more for a pizza, or a burger, or a sub to cover fast food workers. Otherwise, we’re paying for their care in emergency rooms, so corporate criminals can pocket a few pennies.

From NY Times: Having helped President Obama win re-election, labor leaders will meet with him on Tuesday and intend to offer their robust support for what they view as his mandate: stand tough against cuts in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and keep pushing to raise taxes on the wealthy.

Organized labor’s emphasis on broader policy, rather than union-specific legislation, is somewhat of a change from 2008, when leaders pushed for bills that would make it easier to organize workplaces.

I think this is a wise move on labor’s part. The more engaged they are in policy that benefits all workers, the more incentive they create to pass legislation that facilitates unionization, which I fully support. If only there were a Disabled Old Farts Union!

From Huffington Post (Hat-tip Lisa G): Conservative commentator and Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said Sunday the Republican Party should accept new ideas, including the much-criticized suggestion by Democrats that taxes be allowed to go up on the wealthy.

"It won’t kill the country if we raise taxes a little bit on millionaires," he said on "Fox News Sunday." "It really won’t, I don’t think. I don’t really understand why Republicans don’t take Obama’s offer."

Kristol is spot-on, but I bet the base is furious at him.

  1. Puzzle — 3:41  Just skipping over the bridge and through the woods!  Actually, looks a lot like the park where I walk.

MoveOn — Unfortunately, The Colbert Report clip isn't on the Comedy Network.  But I did hear that the CEO of Papa John's Pizza is outraged and I believe is cutting back on employee hours to avoid healthcare costs.  When I consider that my BC healthcare premiums are $64/month for my universal care, and when I was working, my employer paid half of my monthly premium, it makes me wonder why Americans can't see the benefits.

NY Times — There is usually more than one way into the hen house.  To me, by seeing the bigger picture, they help more people and have the opportunity to influence to a greater degree.  BTW, I know you are disabled, but where does the 'old fart' part come from?

Huffington Post — Once you give something away, it is hard to take it back.  The Republicans, even though they didn't bitch about the Clinton tax rates, they have now had a taste of lower taxes and don't want to go back.  Do I think that it is disgraceful and flat out wrong that people like Romney pay a lower tax rate than the average middle class worker making $50,000/yr?  Absolutely!  Kristol's comments are spot on.  I do wonder though, is he still working at Faux Noise?

Cartoon — Proof that SCOTUS did understand the constitution at some point.

  2. MoveOn ~ I don't buy anything from mass marketers. We have a lot of small operations around and I would rather give my money to a family business even though it costs a little more than to a huge enterprise that ONLY had $51.940 million in net income in 2010. And this dirt bag can't afford to subsidize health care for his employees? Put him out of business!

NY Times ~ True patriots will meet with Pres. Obama to add their support for his policy to stand tough against cuts in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and keep pushing to raise taxes on the wealthy. They see the big picture and how it will benefit all Americans, not just a select few.
I would join the Disabled Old Farts Union too.

Huffington Post ~ I wonder how many RepublicanTs spit out their coffee when the heard Bill Cristol make his pronouncement on raising taxes.
Grover Norquist is plum crazy over the loss of the election. He's calling Mittens a "poopy-head".

Cartoon ~ God bless Rosa Parks!

    • I like that, but my disability is far easier to deal with if I shop online.

      Amen, and welcome aboard!

I wonder how many had to go empty their shorts.

      Amen!
