I slept poorly last night, because my COPD flared up, and I’ll be spending the day helping my computer-challenged friend, so this is today’s only article.  I’m current with replies.  Tomorrow appears routine.

Short Takes:

From MoveOn: Some Millionaires Made A Video And This Is What They Said

Not all rich people are evil, only the ones engaged in class warfare, who have bought the Republican party to foster greed over need.

From NY Times: Most Americans have never heard of the National Response Coordination Center, but they’re lucky it exists on days of lethal winds and flood tides. The center is the war room of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, where officials gather to decide where rescuers should go, where drinking water should be shipped, and how to assist hospitals that have to evacuate.

Disaster coordination is one of the most vital functions of “big government,” which is why Mitt Romney wants to eliminate it. At a Republican primary debate last year, Mr. Romney was asked whether emergency management was a function that should be returned to the states. He not only agreed, he went further.

“Absolutely,” he said. “Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that’s the right direction. And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that’s even better.” Mr. Romney not only believes that states acting independently can handle the response to a vast East Coast storm better than Washington, but that profit-making companies can do an even better job. He said it was “immoral” for the federal government to do all these things if it means increasing the debt.

Lord Willard would make Brownie’s response to Katrina seem excellent by comparison.

From YouTube: Al Franken’s SUPPLY SIDE JESUS: An animated comic strip.

Since I often refer to Republican Supply-side Jesus, here’s another reminder of the origin of that notion.  No wonder I supported Al Franken for the Senate!

  1. 3:37  Will I be the spider or the fly today?

  2. Romney's only interest is reducing the expenditures of the federal government to justify reducing his tax rate.  He wants to shift the expenditures to the states and/or individuals.  He does not want his tax dollars going to help the common American.  At best, he wants to spend them on defense, where the money goes into the pockets of his friends and himself through his investments.

Notice, he does not say that disaster relief should not be supplied.  He simply wants to shift it from the federal government to the state governments or possible private enterprise.  This means that the money comes from state taxes rather than federal taxes.  So, it there is a disaster in a state other than his own, it costs him nothing.

He has already stated that he is not concerned with 47% of the US population.  In actual fact, he is only concerned with less than 1% of the people.  Let the other 99% fend for themselves.

He probably should be a Libertarian.

  3. In view of the tragedies wrought by Hurricane Sandy – and just like Rmoney did at his "non-rally" Victory Rally today – I'm going to forgo all political comments.

Well, other than Willard is a lying SonOfABitch who has NO heart, and does not deserve to be a dog catcher, let alone our president.
(And to be clear, that was my disaster relief statement – and in no way intended to be political.  No, really …  I swear!)

  4. Puzzle — 4:09  Not a big spider fan, but 2 of my 3 furkids just LOVE going after them and torturing them!

MoveOn — Great message!  And how many more?  Recently, I have seen a video of ordinary Americans, not the super rich, just everyday people that are comfortable, talking about taxes as a patriotic obligation.  None of us 'adores' taxes, but we accept it as part of life for maintaining the services we have and benefit from.  It is part of giving back.  That is something that Republican/Teabagger politicians and others can't relate to because they are takers, not givers.  They are ruled by greed, not responsibility and compassion.

NY Times — I wonder how long, how many big storms/hurricanes it would take before Republican/Teabaggers re-instated FEMA?  How long before ordinary people realise that their state GOP leaders are selling them 'down the river' so to speak?  Perhaps FEMA should disburse funding on a 'contribution to the pie' basis? — as I understand, the blue states contribute more than red states — blue states are givers whereas red states are takers.  Don't get me wrong, I am about fairness.  But just the thoughts of waking some people up to the utter lack of morals and compassion of their leaders is compelling.

Supply Side Jesus — Very well done and so appropriate!  I knew the political side Franken, but I didn't know he was an SNL alumnus.

Cartoon — I just checked Huff Post which had a new radio ad for the Romney team around this very issue.  Sam Stein also did a review and it is, to say the least, extremely ambiguous and wholly deceptive.  Here is the transcript of the ad:

Barack Obama says he saved the auto industry. But for who? Ohio or China?

Under President Obama, GM cut 15,000 American jobs, but they are planning to double the number of cars built in China, which means 15,000 more jobs for China. And now comes word that Chrysler plans to start making Jeeps in, you guessed it, China.

What happened to the promises made to autoworkers in Toledo and throughout Ohio? The same hard-working men and women who were told that Obama’s auto bailout would help them?

Mitt Romney grew up in the Auto Industry. Maybe that’s why the Detroit News endorsed him, saying, ‘Romney understands the industry and will shield it from regulators who never tire of churning out new layers of mandates.

Mitt Romney – he’ll stand up for the auto industry. In Ohio, not China.

What Romney doesn't say is that the 15,000 job loss had nothing to do with production in China but were part of the restructuring of Chrysler back when.   Chrysler is expanding its Chinese market presence but not at the expense of American jobs.  Romney talks about the bailout — Mr Obama did the bailout pre-bankruptcy when there was NO private money to be had.  Romney wanted to wait to post bankruptcy, but educated opinion says that the industry would not have made it that far, but rather would have died an ignominious death — probably the target of chopshopists like Romney.  The other thing that Stein said was that The Detroit News disagreed with Romney on the auto bailout and stated he failed miserably in that regard.

And all this because I didn't realise Romney was "standing down" — do you mean that he is standing down on his misunderstanding of the Jeep controversy, or standing down from campaigning during Hurricane Sandy?  Romney sure has a PhD in Bullshitology and Lying!

    • Third.

      Exactly!

As long as there were private FEMAs to provise relief to the rich, paid for ny poor and middle class taxpayers, Willard would be happy.

He's had to cut back on the comedy since becoming a Senator.

I meant that he was standing down from campaigning, due to Sandy.  The campaigning he did doesn't count.

  5. Remember when Rmoney openly mocked Pres. Obama's concern about climate change in Willard's Tampa Convention speech acceptance?

“President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans (pause for mocking laughter) and heal the planet."

Not so phucking funny now, is it Mittnochio?

    • yOh, and regarding Willard's photo-op only "Victory Rally" food drive today where he collected canned goods for the Red Cross … straight from the Red Cross' FAQs (scroll down):

Does the American Red Cross accept donated goods?

Unfortunately, due to logistical constraints the Red Cross does not accept or solicit individual donations or collections of items. Items such as collected food, used clothing and shoes must be sorted, cleaned, repackaged and transported which impedes the valuable resources of money, time, and personnel.

Willard is heartless, soulless, and I doubt he even sees his reflection in the mirror.
      He is EVIL INCARNATE!

  6. Sorry to hear your COPD is exacerbated. It's a difficult condition to live with.
Fantasy Football ~ I'll have to get you to help me fill out Shane's football ticket some time. Although I did get all the games right except for one 2 weeks ago.

MoveOn ~ These millionaires are TRUE patriots!

NY Times ~ What did Willard do to help victims of Sandy? He held a rally asking attendees to donate cans of food. The Red Cross needs money, not food, you dumb-ass!
All he did was pull another campaign stunt. It was as bad as Lyin' Ryan washing clean pans at the soup kitchen.

    YouTube ~ Absolutely brilliant!
Thank you Al Franken. You didn't forget your comedic roots.
