Yes, I know how to spell. The title is intended to reflect that what Republicans call Science, isn’t. This becomes especially clear when we look and the Republicans on the House Science Committee, that oversees the scientific pursuits of our nation.
The extent to which David Barton seeks to turn this nation into one governed strictly according to the dictates of the Bible really cannot be over-stated, as he displayed once again when he spoke [Theocons delinked] Grace Family Church in Florida over the weekend. After delivering his standard presentation about how the Constitution is full of verbatim quotes from the Bible, Barton called for a return to the practice of beginning every legislative session throughout the nation by inviting preachers to address the elected representatives and explain to them how they should handle every pressing legislative issue – from taxes to debt to immigration to education – according to the laws God set out in the Bible… [emphasis added]

It’s enough to blow a person away. The real irony here is that these pseudo-Christians are only using the Bible as a prop. The have passed no legislation to allow me to own a Canadian, although the Bible is clear that I may make slaves from neighboring countries. (Lev. 25:44). In spite of his adultery, Diaper Dave Vitter has not been taken out to be stoned, as he should be. (Lev. 20:10) Now I have to admit that Rush Limbaugh has been stoned, but that didn’t take an act of Congress.
Seriously, lets look at what the Bible has to say about just one major Republican issue: personhood.
If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. (Ex. 21:22) Causing an abortion is not considered murder here. Ending a life requires the death penalty.
And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt. (Ge. 38:24) If the fetus were truly a person, burning it with the mother would be murder.
These passages make it clear that an unborn child is not legally a person, according to the Bible. Thus the Republicans, who would deny women choice, are not interested in what the Bible actually says. It is merely a prop to support their dogma.
That’s what the Republican Party offers: pseudo-Christianity and skience, but nothing real.

I am a Christian, and I have a big problem with Barton’s proposals. Considering that the founding fathers were, in their generation and just before, refugees from state religion and fled the persecution, it is unbelievable that they would have intended that laws be based on the Bible as Barton proposes. Further, they specifically promoted the separation of church and state in the 1st amendment. In England, Henry VIII’s separation with the Roman Catholic church in the early 16th century and the resulting animosity between Catholics and Protestants that lasted well over 100 years, created a climate from which many fled to the New World. For Barton to say that the founding fathers based the constitution in Biblical law is just ludicrous. And his proposal that all US laws should be based on the Bible is an even greater folly. The US is a melting pot of ethnicities, races, and religions. The spectre of religion, in this case Christianity, being the basis for laws is ridiculous. The law must be just and equitable and free from any taint of religion.
And as for science, I think we can clearly say that dinosaurs are still alive and living on the Republican/Teabagger side of the aisle in the US Congress. Indeed, dinosaur flatulence is creating a lot of hot air. Perhaps science can figure a way to harness it, produce cheaper energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

They use what ever Bible verse suits their purpose and hope there are enough gullible people out there who believe them.
