Yesterday I pulled myself away from meditation upon the Ellipsoid Orb to watch the President and Lord Willard on 60 Minutes.  I’m sad to report that as soon as Lord Willard started droning on with his standard lies and evasions, the SOB put me right to sleep, so I missed almost all of it.  I’m off shortly to an appointment.  I’m not current with replies, but I’ll catch up when I can.  Tomorrow is a prison volunteer day, but I may have time to do some blogging beforehand.  We’ll see.

From MoveOn: A Question For Your Best Republican Friend

24aquestionforyourbest

It’s clear that Republican governance brings ignorance and poverty to all but the rich.  Most exceptions are extremely over-endowed with natural resources.

From NY Times: Representative Paul D. Ryan’s selection as the Republican vice-presidential nominee is now yielding something Mitt Romney’s campaign can do without: second-guessing about how Mr. Ryan is being put to use.

Through the halls of Congress and well beyond, a whisper campaign is bursting into the open: Rather than burden him with the usual constraints on a ticket’s No. 2 not to upstage or get ahead of the presidential nominee, let Ryan be Ryan and take a detailed, policy-heavy fight to President Obama and the Democrats.

Ironically, I agree with the conservatives pushing this idea. The closer they allow Ryan to being Ryan, the closer Obama comes to keeping the Presidency.

From Daily Kos: Tennessee Majority Leader, Rep. Gerald McCormick (R) was caught stealing Frank Eaton, the Democratic candidate for TN-27th sign’s in a public right of way on Saturday.  He also cursed out Frank Eaton in front of his wife, Joy.  It is bad enough to steal signs, but cursing is never acceptable or becoming conduct of a public official in the South, even prisoners, parolees, gang members all have manners and conduct in front of women – not so for the Majority Leader McCormick.

Also not so for most of today’s Republican politicians. They view sign stealing the same way they view election theft, and they do not respect women, because their party is at war with women.

  1. A few elections ago when we lived in a small, conservative town, our lawn signs were vandalized. This is just the conservative way of dealing with what they don't like: having a hissy fit tantrum.

  3. 3:48  This old tug is not dead in the water, although since I am not over 1 minute less than the average, there is room for the girls to come chugging by.

  4. Puzzle — 4:01 This could easily be the scene outside my windows!

MoveOn — Good question!  Since blue states typically give more to the national kitty than they get, red states would be destitute without that infusion.  How is it that Republican policies would benefit ALL the states?  They wouldn't — they'd only benefit the 1% and corporations.  Everyone else would see their standard of living and their rights slide into the gutter.

New York Times — Romney trips over his own lies and fabrications as the campaign progresses.  He doesn't know when or how to shut his mouth.  Ryan is so unwaveringly ideological, like a bull in a china shop, that by letting him loose could very well sink their campaign.  He has already shown by his speech at the AARP that he is not a favoured son.  People are seeing his extremism.  The conservatives' lust for power could very well sink their ship.

Daily Kos — I seem to recall, based on a news item from a number of years ago, that here in BC, if not across Canada, removing or defacing another's political advertising such as billboards or lawn signs is illegal and subject to fines etc.  It is considered as theft of another's property even though it is on public land and providing it is properly placed.  I was able to find the placement rules but not the 'what if' consequences.  Here, most such vandalism is done at night when one is likely not to be found out.  Is there not such regulation in Tennessee or the US?

I find this contemptible and the mark of a weak candidate.  Why should Floyd (incumbent running against Eaton) be so concerned about his opponent's signs when he is, in his own words, so loved by his constituents?  And why should Floyd ask McCormick to do what he himself is not willing to do?  I suspect that Eaton is a strong challenger to Floyd who is a strong opponent to LGBT rights, among other things.  I watched a video of Eaton protesting a Boehner/Floyd meeting as part of the OWS in Chatanooga and he seems to have his head screwed on right.  On top of stealing the signs, McCormick was very uncivil which is unacceptable.  Yup, Republican election commandments — Thou shalt steal!

Cartoon — I heard an interesting little snippet that had Rmoney not gone to manage the 2002 Olympics, and not become governor but rather stayed at Bain Capital, he would be worth well over $1 billion instead of $258 million.  To a greed meister like him, that has to hurt, wet dreams or not!

  5. MoveOn's question is great. I got it in my email a little while back and saved it. I have forwarded it to my RepublicanT friends and I get no response. I wonder why. Hmmm…

NY Times: Representative Paul D. Ryan ~ Don't they realize that Ryan lost the primary to Rmoney for a reason? The reason most likely being that he is a tad too radical. Go for it, Paulie!

Tennessee Majority Leader, Rep. Gerald McCormick (R) was only exercising his right to free speech by stealing his opponent's signs and cursing him out.
