Voters Without Values

It’s time to get out the tinfoil hat polish again as Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians are gathering to express their gospel of hate, fear, bigotry, greed and racism fostered, not by the real Jesus, who represented the exact opposite, but by the Jesus they invented themselves: Republican Supply-side Jesus.  And in the midst of all this is the Republican VP candidate, Paul Ryan.

15haters-voter-summitIn politics, as in war, the truth is often a casualty. But in the presidential election of 2012, the truth is targeted for assassination, placed on a hit list by the Romney-Ryan campaign and the Republican right.

There’s nothing random about it. That was made clear today by Rep. Paul Ryan, Wis., the Republican vice presidential candidate, in a speech delivered to the Values Voter Summit, the annual gathering convened by the FRC Action, the political arm of the Family Research Council…

…If Ryan’s remarks sound mild compared to those made by Romney earlier in the week, that’s because his speech was teed up by the poisonous rhetoric of former Reagan administration official William Bennett, who also made much of the fact that Ryan was his former intern.

But once he dispensed with the adorable image of Paul Ryan making Xeroxes and running errands for his high-rolling boss, Bennett drew the sum total of his mendacious pomposity to accuse the administration of deeds that would almost amount to treason, were they remotely true. Secretary Clinton, he said, "wonder[ed] aloud whether…our own constitutional freedoms go just a bit too far."

That would indeed be a horrible thing — if it had ever happened. But it hadn’t.

Bennett went on: "A Muslim mob brutalizes and murders an American ambassador, a representative of the United States of America, to disgrace him, and to disgrace us. They would murder us, and brutalize us, too — all of us. And our government reacts by shuddering and shaking, and wondering that the consequences of our First Amendment, that blames an inconsequential fool of a filmmaker with a paltry influence, for the venom unleashed in another part of the world. God help us. God help us."

Bennett read Romney’s statement verbatim, and went on to fault the media for the fallout Romney suffered. "Most of the press jumped in on Romney to kill this truth in the womb — something it is well-practiced at," Bennett said.

Romney running-mate Paul Ryan did not take issue with a single bit of Bennett’s introduction… [emphasis added]

Rachel Maddow had more details about the convention and assorted Republican conspiracies on the current crisis.

I found the terrorist who was an aid to Pat Buchannan at the time when he was supposedly a terrorist most entertaining.  Now. if that is not insane enough for you, Republicans have at long last come up with an explanation for all Obama’s ills.  You’re going to love this one!

  1. Romney and Ryan ; A pair of smirking , phoney,  BASTARDS!

  2. It seems that voters without values prefer candidates without value.

A couple of out of touch pricks that would starve to death if forced to live on minimum wage, no thanks….

  3. I listened to all the Rachel Maddow segments which were very, very interesting.  I have read articles on the Libyan situation, the protests in Egypt and other Muslim countries.  I have seen comments from Romney and Ryan as well as other American politicians, Pastor Terry Jones, journalists, conspiracy theorists and fanatical right wingnuts.

In all the furor, what is emerging is a hedonistic cynicism much like the voyeurism of the reality TV genre (IMHO) and it is being promoted by the fanatical right trying to whip the American public into a frenzy, a frenzy that is gripping the American psyche.  When it comes to Romney and Ryan, they don't care about the truth.  It was certainly apparent that Senator Rob Portman, a surrogate for Romney, doesn't care about the truth either as, once shown his statement was inaccurate and he acknowledged that, he went back to the same inaccuracies.

And then the resurgence of the "new and improved" birther crap that also alleges that Mr Obama is gay . . . give me a break!  I think the Republican/Teabaggers are afraid of their corporate masters to the extent that they are willing to appear absolutely insane, rather than risk losing the election.  They still risk losing the election though because they are so extreme, so un-American, almost anti-American.  The American people who vote for this three ring circus are certainly delusional and voting against their best interests.

  4. Does this mean all of J. Edgar Hoover's friends and associates were gay?

If their theories were not believed by so many fools, they would be laughable. What makes it all scary is that so many actually believe this nonsense. Where are their brains?

  5. At that same meeting today
Ricky Santorum said that the Repubs would never attract the "smart and the elite" into the party.  And the crowd applauded him like he was saying something smart.  Kill me now, I agree with ole Ricky!  I think that the only truthful thing he's ever said in his life.  I would have laughed my ass off. So Ricky, you are confirming that your party is made up of dumasses and sheeple.  I'm good with that!

    • I agree, except for his reason,  He said the 'smart' people waht to tell us what to think.  That's not true.  They want to teach us HOW to learn what to think for ourselves.  It is the Republicans, who want to tell us WHAT to think.

  6. Thank you, Tom, for all you do  on Politics Plus and on your volunteering.  I don't comment much, but know I am out here reading.  So happy your tests are coming out good.  Take care of you.

  7. The only time Jesus lost his temper, was with the money changers. Mitt will rot in Hell.

  8. Nothing that Romney/Ryan, McConnell/Boehner come up with surprises me anymore.  It makes me sad that so many are gullible enough to believe them.
