What Congress Didn’t Do

We are witnessing the worst Congress in history, because Republicans are intentionally sabotaging America in hopes of seizing power.  With so many pressing needs facing our nation, House Republicans adjourned and went on vacation, despite objections from House and Senate Democrats, leaving their work undone.  This Congress is most notable for what they didn’t do, not what they did, although what they did was horrific in it’s own right.

3CongressMajor bills that Congress has left unfinished as it prepares to leave at the end of the week for its August recess:

FARM AND FOOD PROGRAMS:

The Senate in June and the House Agriculture Committee in July passed similar bills to set agriculture subsidy and conservation policy and spend almost $100 billion a year over the next five years for farm and nutrition programs…

POSTAL SERVICE OVERHAUL:

The U.S. Postal Service at midnight Wednesday will default on $5.5 billion in scheduled payments to the Treasury for future retiree health care benefits as it waits for Congress to come up with a plan to help it regain fiscal solvency…

CYBERSECURITY:

Senators this week took up legislation to protect the U.S. electrical grid and other critical industries from cyberattacks and electronic espionage, but it is doubtful they will finish before leaving for the recess…

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT:

House Speaker John Boehner on Monday named lawmakers to negotiate with the Senate on a compromise bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act for five years, but progress on the bill remained elusive four months after the Senate reauthorized the act on a bipartisan vote…

RUSSIA TRADE:

Both the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee have approved bills to end Cold War restrictions and extend permanent normal trade relations to Russia…

I have given you the headers and the first sentence from each area, but this article contains a lot more valuable information.  I recommend that you click through fore the rest.

What House Republicans didn’t do is far more important than anything they did. Rachel Maddow and Eugene Robinson covered this topic, while explaining some of the hateful activities House Republicans have done to fill the calendar.

Instead of anything to benefit America, Republicans only pursued their wars on women, unions, Latinos, gays and all the other groups Republicans so love to hate.

So much for

  1. The lesson to learn is that republicans are not fit to govern.

  2. Farm Bill — damned if they do, damned if they don't

Postal Service — Ben Franklin is rolling in his grave over this.  Not likely to be dealt with this year?  What on earth are they waiting for?  It won't go away!

Cybersecurity — And Jabber Jowls McConnell wants to add a provision to repeal the ACA?  Enough of the repeal of the ACA!  Get on with the business of governing.

VAWA — This should have been an automatic renewal without all the Republican/Teabagger theatrics.  And they say there is no war on women?!

Russia — For the US to be delaying because of Russia's human rights record is a little silly.  Russia has problems, absolutely.  But so does the US — just look at what's going on courtesy of the GOP.

The Republican/Teabagger House leadership would rather waste time with 33 votes to repeal the ACA, numerous discussions about abortion and contraception, and lord knows what other trivial matters rather than getting down to the important business of running the country and approving bills like the AJA that would get people working and stimulating the economy.

    Vote Democratic 2012!!!!!     Vote Obama/Biden 2012!!!!!

    • Agree.

Republicans are trying to destroy USPS to break the union and privatize to UPS and FedEx.

Exactly.  I had some problems with the bill, but our infrastructure is vulnerable.

      Seems they oppose preventing violence.

      Agree.

      Bingo!

  3. I am so angry and so damm frustrated; feel absolutely hopeless and very discouraged—

  4. What we all have to realize is Boehner didn't really want to lead the House. He just wanted that big gavel.
