Republican on a Rampage

I can’t tell you how many times I have criticized the Republican Party for their love of violence, especially gun violence.  Once again, more people are dead because of it, but this time, the crazy perpetrator is a well known Arizona Republican, and a close associate of former state Senate Majority Leader, Russell Pearce.

3ReadyGOPWe’ve been saying for a long time that ardent neo-Nazis like J.T. Ready of Arizona are ticking time bombs, walking violent atrocities waiting to happen. Yesterday, he proved the point in a horrifying way:

A border militia leader on Wednesday shot and killed four people at a Gilbert home, including a toddler, before committing suicide, sources said.

Sources identified the shooter as Jason "J.T." Ready, a reputed neo-Nazi who made headlines when he launched a militia movement to patrol the Arizona desert to hunt for illegal immigrants and drug smugglers.

Authorities have not identified the other victims, but reached by phone Wednesday afternoon, Hugo Mederos said the victims were his ex-wife, Lisa; their daughter, Amber; Amber’s boyfriend, whose name The Republic is withholding until his next of kin could be notified, and Amber’s 18-month-old baby, Lilly.

Mederos, who lives in Tampa, said Ready lived at the home with his girlfriend, Lisa.

Ready was a former Marine who headed the U.S. Border Guard, a militia-style group that routinely performed armed patrols in the southern Arizona desert. Early this year, Ready had formed an exploratory committee for a run as Pinal County sheriff.

In recent years, Ready has been grabbing headlines by organzing vigilante border patrols. Ready’s onetime political ally, Russell Pearce, was just chased out of public office by Mesa’s voters… [emphasis added]

C & L also provided a news clip.

Neither the article nor the clip actually document Ready’s connection to the GOP, but in fact he was President of the Mesa Community College Republicans Club and is a Maricopa County Republican precinct committeeman.

How many more people have to die, because the Republican Party courts and honors violent extremists like Ready?

  1. So sad for the family. I can’t for a moment think of how such violence advances “the cause”, but apparently he thought so. The GOP has been telling him for years.

    • I don’t think the act was in itself political, but you’re right.  Republicans view violence as a solution, not the problem that it is.

  2. Republicans are against abortions because they want to kill them once they are born. Just like we saw happen in Arizona.

The killer was BFF to Russel Pierce (R-AZ) the State Senator who was ousted over his Papers Please Law SB1070 and did I mention he was a Mormon?

Arizona is run by Republican Nazi’s and if your skin is not Lily White I’d advise you not to even get close to the Arizona border.

You may end up being shot and killed for your lack of Whiteness.

    Have a great day.

    • Thanks AP for the additional reading.  Very interesting.  Definitely one scary dude!  Thank goodness Pearce is out of office.  May he never return!

    • Who else but a repubican would be a “Surrogate Father” to a mass-murderer and Neo-Nazi?  A candid shot of the two Wingnuts bonding together as BFF (successfully recalled Pearce is on the right … way, way far on the right):

    • Thanks for the good links, AP.  I was going to mention Mormonism, but Edie said it below.

  3. There are few things worse than an ignorant, redneck, gun-toting cowboy Republican. Arizona should be ashamed it breeds such fools!

    Very Sad indeed… sigh

  5. In reading up about the immigration issue that seems atop of the Republican/Teabagger mind, I ran across an article from 2004 about Baby Bush and the illegal immigrants.  Here is the link: (also posted on Care2)http://www.salon.com/2004/02/19/immigration_9/singleton/

Sally Denton’s article is from February 2004 and highlights the reasoning behind Baby Bush’s stand on illegal immigration, particularly from Mexico. While he publically took the altruistic path, was that his real reason for his stand? Or was it, as Denton puts out, a concession to big corporations that could get an underpaid, overworked workforce that meant more profits?

When I saw this, I had just read about JT Ready and the border militias in Brewerstan aka Arizona, it had me wondering if there has been a shift in Republican/Teabagger party thinking on immigration. Now that some states, notably Fitzwalkerstan aka Wisconsin have stripped public employees of their bargaining rights and repealed legislation for equal pay for women, are they shifting their attention to American workers and saying “If you want to work, these are the jobs and conditions.”?  How many more states will follow Fitzwalkerstan in the scope of their labour changes?  Certainly in the Republican/Teabagger war on women, we have seen state after state, red states to be sure, follow the turnip truck.  But what of Brewerstan’s fanatical lead against immigrants?  Vigilante injustice?  Warped sociopaths and psychopaths in search of a cause, however ignoble?

JT Ready is, or rather was, obviously one sick SOB and although I don’t wish anyone dead, the world is a safer place without him.  It is too bad that he had to kill 4 other people before ostensibly taking his own life.  It does seem strange though that he would take his own life.  I guess we’ll have to wait to see what happens with the investigation.

    • For Republicans, it’s good to keep undocumented workers in fear, because it makes it easier for corporate criminals to exploit them.

  6. To Anon Paranoid, I am just curious, what difference does it make if a killer is a Mormon, Baptist, Catholic, Jewish, or  Muslim?

    • Hateful, muderous people come in all races and creeds.

    • Edith…

Your correct  when you ask what difference does it make.  In a sense none since you can find murders in all religions.  However, it is the fanatics of religion who embrace hate that make a difference.  I notice that you did not include in your comment Evangelical Christians and I wonder why since they push hatred against abortion, gays, blacks, Muslims, Hispanics and anyone who does not follow their religious doctrine.

I apologize if my mentioning his religion upset you.  Here is another link from another site that wrote about JT Ready and what is going on in Arizona.

      Have a good day.

    • I agree.  A person’s beliefs should become a political issue only with respect to attempts to impose those beliefs on others politically.

  7. Rachel Maddow established Ready’s links with many RepublicanT leaders in AZ last night. I watched with my mouth hanging open like an idiot last night. When will all the hate stop?  People of America, WAKE UP!
