In an improving economy, Republicans greeted the bad news that gas prices are rising with unmitigated glee.  The were quick to attack Obama and promise deliver $2.00/gallon gas.  Their solution is the Keystone XL Pipeline, plus a retreat to the policy of Sarah Palin, aka Drill Baby Barbie.  I trust you can guess want it is.

GOP-OilPresident Barack Obama said rising gasoline prices are a "painful reminder" of why the U.S. must develop alternative energy sources, and he criticized Republicans who he said were offering slogans rather than strategy.

Obama, in Miami promoting his administration’s energy and economic policies as the Republican presidential candidates have ramped up attacks on him over prices at the pump, said the U.S. must go beyond focusing on domestic gas and oil exploration.

Without naming any of his Republican critics, Obama mocked "their three-point plans for $2 gas," which amounts to more drilling for oil on U.S. territory.

"Anyone who tells you we can drill our way out of this problem doesn’t know what they’re talking about — or isn’t telling you the truth," Obama said at the University of Miami after touring an industrial machine lab at the school.

The rising cost of gasoline threatens to crimp consumer spending, which accounts for 70 percent of the U.S. economy, at a time the recovery is gaining strength. Economic concerns loom as the top issue in the November election… [emphasis added]

World oil prices are driven by many factors, most of which are beyond Presidential control.  In this case, the instability in the Persian Gulf over Iran is driving prices up.  As for the rest of the Republican lies, Ed Schultz interviewed Martin Bashir and Richard Wolfe to prove them false.

The truth is clear here.  The more we move away from fossil fuels and toward green energy sources, plus the more we reduce our energy consumption, through assorted conservation methods, the more stable energy prices will become.

  1. The Oil Barons control gas prices and they don’t want Pres. Obama to win his re-election bid.

Get rid of their obscene subsidies and tax the hell out of them!

  2. These “drill baby dri;ll” Republican idiots should simply drill their own skulls dry and free of that gooey sludge they call their brains!

  3. No wonder all these Republican/Teabaggers all wear slip-on shoes!  They’d be tripping all over their laces if they were lace-ups!

Number of wells up 350%, production up 8% — all during Mr Obama’s administration.  The Keystone XL, which the Republicans are going to bring up again if they haven’t already, is not going to make one lick of difference because once refined by Kochroach Industries, gas/oil is headed to the open market, not US gas tanks etc.  The Republican/Teabaggers would have everyone believe that there are no other factors in determining the price of oil and gas.  Guess again.  There is a global supply and demand as well as outside political factors that affect world prices.  If any of the GOP candidates can find a way to get and keep gas prices at $2 a gallon, they should patent it now.

“Anyone who tells you we can drill our way out of this problem doesn’t know what they’re talking about — or isn’t telling you the truth,” Obama said at the University of Miami after touring an industrial machine lab at the school.

I favour the latter explanation — isn’t telling the truth!

    • I don’t think that even they can be that stupid.  They know damn well what those numbers are.  They are counting on us NOT knowing!

  4. Excuse me but the US is exporting more oil than we’re importing and we’re exporting more refined gas and diesel than ever before. And as Lynn S said above, drilling permits are up 350% under Obama. Plain and simple the American consumer is being royally screwed and being lied to.
