Romney Loses a Racist Hypocrite

Family Values Republicans have a way of proving that they believe their family values must be imposed by force on everyone else, but do not apply to their own behavior.  In the Totalitarian Corporate Plutocracy of Brewerstan, formerly Arizona, Romney had such a man as the co-chair of his campaign there.  Even before the scandal broke, Paul Babeu was problematic due to his extreme hatred of undocumented Latinos and his association with the White Supremacy movement.

19Babeau…Babeu comes with some serious baggage. Over the last two years, the federal government and local politicians have repeatedly chided Babeu for making sensationalist, unsubstantiated allegations about border violence. Babeu has called President Obama "the enemy" and said the president has come close to committing treason through his immigration policies. He has also come under criticism by for appearing on a white nationalist talk radio program that’s been a frequent platform for white supremacists.

Babeu is best known for his public advocacy on behalf of Arizona’s controversial 2010 immigration law, SB 1070. His tough talk on border crime has made him a high-profile figure on the right. He’s dubbed himself "Sheriff Paul"—a nod to fellow Arizonan "Sheriff Joe" Arpaio—and made frequent appearances on Fox News. In July 2010, in the midst of a media blitz to promote the bill, he appeared on a Memphis-based radio program called "The Political Cesspool." [Hate Group delinked] The show’s cohost, James Edwards, has been labeled a "white nationalist" by both the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center… [emphasis added]

You might consider a family values candidate a hypocrite, if he was also gay.  You might call a racist spokesman for the hatred of undocumented Latinos a hypocrite, if his gay boyfriend was an undocumented Latino.  And you light call a law-and-order sheriff a hypocrite, if he committed the felony of blackmail by threatening to deport his his gay, undocumented Latino boyfriend, if he did not cover up their relationship.  Ladies and gentlemen, we have a trifecta!

19Babeau2Embattled Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, who is facing explosive allegations that he and his attorney tried to intimidate a former lover by threatening to have him deported, on Saturday quit his position as an Arizona co-chairman of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.

“Sheriff Babeu has stepped down from his volunteer position with the campaign so he can focus on the allegations against him," Romney spokesman Ryan Williams told The Arizona Republic in a statement. "We support his decision."

Babeu, who also is running for the U.S. House in Arizona’s new 4th Congressional District, and his attorney, Chris DeRose, deny the accusations. But Babeu’s judgment also is coming under scrutiny for allegedly taking provocative photos of himself and sending them over the Internet. News of the accusations against Babeu first broke Friday in the Phoenix New Times, which also published the photos… [emphasis added]

To be clear, I could not care less that Babeu is gay.  I support full equality for the LGBT community.  I object to Babeu’s hypocrisy.

We should not be surprised that Babeu is a complete hypocrite for three reasons.  First, he is a Republican politician.  Second, he was chosen by Multiple Mitt.  Third, he is a favored associate of the Brewerstan Death Angel, Jan Brewer.

    Sounds like self-hatred, posing, and a terminal lack of insight have been the hallmarks of his life.  Pathetic.

  2. Check out my latest one. This seems to be “Family Values Weekend.”

  3. There is nothing crazier than an Arizona Republican…except maybe Rick Santorum.

  4. So Babeu is a Romney spokesman who is a sheriff in Arizona who threatens to deport his gay, illegal Mexican lover?  Well, that should be pretty easy for him to convince the repubican Party that HIS values are THEIR values, too.   So I really don’t see a problem for Babeu.
    Well, there is that photo he took of himself in his underpants – but other than that …

  5. Absolutely makes me want to Barf!!

    • Family Values Republicans have a way of proving that they believe their family values must be imposed by force on everyone else, but do not apply to their own behavior.

      Money and Greed are addictions too but, the rest of us suffer…. sigh

  6. May I ask what sort of “family values” he values so highly?

  7. Who Is The Real Freeloader?

    With the release of his (but for some reason only the most recent) tax returns, we learned that Mitt Romney collects over $20 million a year, while doing nothing, from the many millions he was able to get control of by stripping companies and laying people off or making them take huge pay cuts and loss of benefits. According to the Christian Science Monitor titled, ‘What kind of society does America want?’, this is the story of what happened to the workers in one company when the Romney/Bain machine “came to town”:

    ‘The new owner, American Pad & Paper, owned in turn by [Mitt Romney’s] Bain Capital, told all 258 union workers they were fired, in a cost-cutting move. Security guards hustled them out of the building. They would be able to reapply for their jobs, at lesser wages and benefits, but not all would be rehired.’

    According to the cruel language of the right, those workers are “losers.” If they need to get unemployment or food stamps they are “parasites” and “freeloaders” who are “asking for handouts.” When old, they will need the Social Security and Medicare they paid into all their lives, more “handouts.” People like Romney says these “entitlements” – the things we are entitled to as citizens in a democracy – are “draining the economy.”

    Mitt Romney says government is the culprit, not people like him who show up and strip our jobs, factories, companies, industries and economy. Romney, who pays very little in taxes on the $20-plus million he receives in “capital gains” every year, wrote in a December USA Today op-ed titled, What kind of society does America want? that the very existence of government itself costs the economy jobs, writing, “With the growth of government has come an inevitable contraction of the private sphere.” Romney writes that programs like Social Security and Medicare are examples of “government dependency.” And, finally, he writes, “Government dependency can only foster passivity and sloth”.

    Right. Mitt Romney, producer – who receives $20-plus million a year for not working – as contrasted with the “losers” who work two jobs at minimum wage, making so little they need food stamps just to get by. (They used to make more, but Mitt Romney came to town, buying the company they worked for, chopping it up and sending the parts they don’t sell to China, laying them off or cutting their wages in half, and taking their health care and pension.)

  8. When Rmoney and Santorum etc are running on Republican family values, how does this loser get to run for the same party when

    • he’s gay (Republicans are so anti-gay);
    • he is cavorting with an unregistered Latino (Republicans are racists);
    • he is a criminal if he committed blackmail, threatening to deport his Latino boyfriend (Republicans say they are law and order); and
    • he posts a picture of himself in his underwear on the internet (something I would think a firing offence!).

    And a close friend of Battle Ax Brewer?  Right there, that should be a criminal offence!  Again, what happened to all the ‘thou shalts’ of the Republican party.

    The Republicans seem to be very good at ‘do as I say, not as I do!’.  Although I am not a Rmoney fan, gracefully accepting the resignation of Sheriff Paul is a good move.  There will still be plenty of fallout for him being there in the first place.

    • And then they accuse us of hate for exposing it.

    • Since you spelled offense wrong twice, I know it wasn’t just a typo!  This man’s behavior is not typical of all Republicans! That would be like me calling all Democrats ignorant wretches!

      • Professor, I hate to tell you this (but not really).  Offense and offence are homonyms.  The former is the opposite of defense, but is commonly used in place of offence.  The latter is a crime or violation.  Lynn used the correct variant for her context.  Furthermore, nobody said that this behavior is typical of all Republicans, but that such hypocrisy is common from Republican politicians and pundits.  You may think PeopleRStupid, but you don’t get to make up your own facts, anymore than you get to make up your own grammar.

  9. What a disgusting piece of human shit.
